When the ball is moving we are a very tough team.
You need to make adjustments. He did it with IHart last year, putting him in a role where his skills weren’t utilized. Obi, is Obi, but have to understand the pace that guys play.
If guys are open and Julius is spinning into traffic that hurts team moral.
Grimes cutting, getting open looks, having the ball a little more is good for everyone. Confidence is all these guys have and can’t let that go.
This is why, in my heart of [coal shaped and colored] hearts, I do think one of RJ/Randle will be moved. Brunson aint going anywhere. Either those guys gotta change or one will be moved.
Who comes in and do they also move the ball?
We all want the ball to move, right?
Knicks are doing better but its not enough.
Can we win without more ball movement? If so, what is our ceiling?
With RJ or Randle going out, we need doing the Star thing, right? "For us to move to next tier, we need a star!!!"........
Can't argue with that!
Only logic gets in the way of that, right?
I want a star? Who argues with wanting a star? I wanted to do lines of coke on supermodels thigh and bang them 3 at a time. Why didn't I? I did not have the assets or if I did I'd have none left.
Ok, thats silly.Since we are being non sensicle, Lets talk about Tanking? Not a tank draft right? Detroit and SAS are awful. Detroit is full of yoot and Lets pretend IQ can help either.
Bojan is the prize for us but they need some wins and IQ might be what they need. Next to cade, its not a bad fit. I do IQ and Evan for Bojan and Ivey. Ivey spends the rest of eternity with Johnny Bryant. Since we need to justify our trades, I give back their second round pick.
I also talk with SAS who might also want IQ.I don't have my star?
Not yet. Ivey has the opportunity to be one. I still have Grimes, Mitch, and some 1sts to move.
Disregard any of the above if we move for Donovan Mitchell. Nice name, does he add to defense and ball movement?
Love mitch and his contract. Thought he could be a big trade chip. Thought he'd fit in Nola to help Zion and naturally any of those great "He from Louisiana" things we love to do. Like "he a CAA client" or Rj to toronto because "he Canadian". This before Mitch got hurt, but any basis for this other than playing pretend?
https://basketnews.com/news-191209-pelic...
I also want one of their wings. For that, I'll sweeten the pot some how. No need for OG then.
But where does this wing play? RJ to the 2? Im still bringing in Bojan?
Valaciunas is a free agent this year. Mitch is on a great deal. This might really help them and they should pay nice for it.Ok, I have to stop here. Why? its a lot to figure when you actually have to account for money and minutes in being a responsible participant in the UK.
At the end of the day What I might do is sell for prospects and Picks and but not massively. We are in a huge middle class in the age of parity and Im not confident we can bust out in our timeline. I not against trading RJ, but I need to know whats coming back. Same for Randle. I don't see us getting a star that takes us to the top tier. I like our team and ok riding it out the rest of the season.I am not talking about this year, I am talking about... in general.
I am not making an eye-popping statement at all, it's pretty bland. Knicks talent level aint where it needs to be to get to next level. Like, duh, right?
Either guys gotta step up - and is there a step to make for those players - or they will need to be upgraded.
Just statement of fact without the plan to do it.
Sometimes you just need a shoulder to lean on.
Or whine and not respond. I get it.
I hope you get it for all Knick fans and not just Martin. Your questions and comments are good (for a Leon Rose interview). Last time I checked, there are mostly Knick fans who want to see a better product. We say the obvious but that’s out of emotional frustration. Sometimes we don’t need to be drilled with questions that only Léon can answer. He built this roster and Thibs coached it, so let’s start there.
We need a better product on the floor and Leon needs to make a move or two. I believe we have seen the ceiling for this team with and w/o Mitch.
Also if our toots mins are being reduced because of the Nova boys, then we better be a championship ready team. Otherwise why stop their development? IQ reduction seems strategic. Grimes reduction was based on performance. But no grimes and no Mitch, and look at our defense.

Disagree with so .much of this.
I actually like and accept what we have
Fans are always impatient or think things can be done better.
Don't see anything wrong with the teams progress.
You say we don't have any playmakers? BS. JB, JR, RJ, IQ all are tough to stop when in the game.
You are saying that just because we added better players than Grimes and Deuce we should then win a chip? Nah, just means they were not as good as Devo or JHart
I am sure you have been around basketball teams, bench roles to understand that just because you are not in the lineup, you can still work or your game and improve
Grimes has more opportunity to do so in the second unit.
The notion that in order to build around a player can only be done by scrapping a team is silly
As is the notion that JB is the one to be that player. You do know we go up against teams that have maybe two if not three superstars as good as JB? Ie. Clips
Unlike most on here, I have a good memory. Remember 15 plus years of being the laughing stocks of NBA. Remember useless coaches. Remember not having ANY impact players. Not having any draft assets. Being over the cap with over the hill names that could no longer play.
I like what we have and the process we are on. For those that do not see it, understand it, or think their armchair quarterbacking can do better, they at least have the fan boards to complain about it.

Well we built on RJ and Randle because it was better than Mook and out of shape Melo. We got here and they all on really good contracts.
As we all know, its harder to get to contenting from mid pack than sucking to midpack.
Nalod at seasons onset said "the age of parity" and thus far its all of that.
Teams mired in mediocrity does make for good games.
Not gonna be easy going forward to break out but any big moves will be expensive Unless a player goes free agent.
How do we build around JB? Draft? What trades can you envision that creates the type of roster than thrives under him? JB triving is not the issue, the kid is killing it.

Yes yes yes.
The impatience thing is a given but the lack of awareness that following through on the big ideas to get the star, to tear it down, to "dump" the scapegoats or fire the coach etc. - will bring us straight back to those dark days. Thankfully the current FO hasn't - yet - given in to the pressure from the various quarters demanding/whining for "change." In the context of those awful years - excuse me, decades - I will trust them to continue a rational brick by brick ascent.
Thats ususally for losing records and frustrated fans.
Team should do well to avoid tear downs for a while!
SAS and ranting radio shows will respond to whats on the court.

Feel as though Dolan has zero negative feedback from fans. Nor is he being hit at the box office.
Think most fans are well aware that we are in a much better place. They also understand we are not there yet but are having fun watching the gradual improvement of the franchise.

Well I disagree with you.
Most fans understand that everything has an expiration date and JB will not play on this level forever. We as fans who also know basketball, especially fans that played the game or build teams from scratch understand. It’s not rocket science. We all see it in plane site. We almost there. Now is not the time to go conservative. And 5yrs of waiting is being patient. We never waiting this long for results. I’m also glad Leon doesn’t listen to fans like me who wants a chip now. But at the same time there’s an expiration date to every plan.
You don’t need to sell the farm, trade the world. Enough with these over exaggerated replies. All I said and been saying for 5 yrs now. How long are we running with this experiment building on top of RJ and Randle? We have a new sheriff in town and his name is JB the closer aka “The Brunson Burner”.
We are closer to being a more than solid team. And all we need is some tweaks to the roster to remove the glut and help Thibs with rotation and meanwhile, can we add a roll player that will get some PT and plays defense. I’m not asking for a lot.

Somewhat different than your other post on the thread. Don't think many disagree the team needs "tweaking".
Saying we are building around RJ and Randle and also acknowledging Knicks added a new sheriff in town in Brunson is contradictory.
I've stated several times we need upgrades. One being at SG. Felt Grimes was not yet the high level SG needed on a contender.
Devo and IQ are proving me right.
However, feel the FO is doing a great job with incremental building.
Feel Thibs and most of the players on the team including RJ and JR can be part of a winner. Especially when you consider their production vs cost.
Many brush past JRs 20/10 and the ability to bull over most PFs. Focussing on imperfections.
Or RJs age and elite ability to get to the basket.
Have waited a long time for straight up, equal salary and similar age trade suggestions.
Agree that it's good the FO does not listen to the impatient fan base. Even the ones building local league teams or are among the hundreds of thousands with some college playing experience.
It's obvious that the FO knows we need upgrades.
It's also obvious that they are focused on not taking three steps back to take one step forward in trades.

So I had to go back and read what I wrote and I don’t see what you mean. You might be reading someone else’s posts but I’ve been consistent even when 90% disagreed I haven’t changed. RJ and Randle are on great contracts. And it’s been a while since we had that. But that doesn’t mean we stop there. That doesn’t mean I should accept mediocrity because we’ve been below average for over a decade.
We have something special with special players. We are very close to beating most teams in the nba. As soon as we added JB and handed out these contracts plus reduced our yoots mins for the nova boys. That’s a strong message to the fan base that we are putting development slightly behind winning which is fine. Meaning we trying to make it further than last year. Great. Then make the obvious moves in typical Leon rose fashion. So far he’s pushed the right button even though he’s slow and methodical. If only he spoke out more then we do not have to waste time digging in Leon’s brain.
Yes I still don’t think Thibs is that championship coach we need.
And I never liked the RJ and Randle marriage.
I’ve also said I would trade Randle for a less talented player who fits this team and fills some weaknesses on the defensive end. Will this bring a chip? Who knows. This is what fans do. Cheer when we win. Complain when we lose.
Who’s coming in and going out? I don’t know. That’s for the GMs to figure out. But we are loaded and minor tweaks can go a long way. Adding hart and ihart was minor but look at the outcome which was major and still is. Just need another savoy trade or move like that.
Worse case we do nothing and Randle continues to kill. I’m happy with that as well. I hope RJ and Randle prove me wrong. And Thibs who surprises me sometimes but other times he’s slow to adjust. And sometimes we need that but other times u just want to throw the tv.

Thats ususally for losing records and frustrated fans.
Team should do well to avoid tear downs for a while!
SAS and ranting radio shows will respond to whats on the court.Feel as though Dolan has zero negative feedback from fans. Nor is he being hit at the box office.
Think most fans are well aware that we are in a much better place. They also understand we are not there yet but are having fun watching the gradual improvement of the franchise.Well I disagree with you.

If Randle has not proved you wrong yet, I do not know what that entails. He has taken all kinds of shit in NY. Has chosen to stay and prove people wrong. Far from elite but man he is a beast and hard to deal with on the floor. Walking 20/10 at bargain price. If you mean he has to win a chip in order to do so, then that's a tough ask. Can't think of any player that can be put in his place right now who can prove his worth by doing that.
Agree that RJ is a bad fit. Right now. Can he develop and become a better fit. Who knows. But he is young. Would rather have JB, Devo or JHart, IQ, Ihart and Randle finish the game. Feel Devo should be getting minutes over him but NBA business in place.
You keep saying we are sacrificing the yoots development. Disagree. Grimes, IQ have their opportunity to do so. Problem is for those that think the yoots are entitled despite getting the opportunity and not taking advantage. Franky is somewhere else doing nothing and many were asking for the free get out of jail card for him as well. Watching Devo and IQ aggressiveness and shot making compared to Grimes tells us that maybe Grimes needs a lot more work before we hand him the unlimited minutes to develop. I am sure the stark difference is alao seen in practices.
Easy to say Thibs is not a chip coach. Who is? Are they available? Or should we go back to days we give any poor sucker a chance?
Like I said, i like who we got until we can add better players. Loved Grimes, now think Devo and IQ is better. I will continue to enjoy watching and continue to hope we can add good valued improvements. Like you said.
As far as Sims and McBride go, both players have shined at times but they aren't better than the healthy guys in front of them. Of the two I'd like to see McBride play more because I think he can really change games with his defense, however there's no way those minutes should come at the expense of Brunson Devo or IQ.
Sometimes box scores don't tell the whole story. Over the past 7 games Julius has shot 60% from the field. He's also been taking about 2 3's fewer than before. I think we are really seeing his evolution into a different kind of player. The variety of his shots, his patience, and his ability to get to the rim have all really improved. Since those shots are coming a lot closer to the basket, Turnovers is his next area for improvement. I feel like this is a sustainable change- even the best 3 point shooters have a high variance in makes compared to guys around the rim. Coupled with Brunson's high percentages, Knicks look to be well on their way to dependable high octane offense.
The defense will be rough the next two months. As good as Hart is the blocks and steals don't really match up with Mitchell. I think one reason Mitchell's blocks were down this season is because a lot of players just gave up trying to get past him and instead opted for passing out to the perimeter. Hopefully Robinson comes back with the team still in good playoff positioning and with enough time to get reintegrated into the team.
Look, Philly Milwaukee and Boston all have deep rosters with MVP candidates. Not much you can do about that. But Miami has shown time and again that anything can happen in the playoffs. Hell, Toronto's ring shows that even the all- time best team can't win it all if players get injured at the wrong time. As long as Knicks get the 4 or 5 seed they can at least avoid one of the top 3 teams.
