Knicks · Phuck! (Mitch out for season) (page 2)

GustavBahler @ 12/21/2023 12:18 AM
That sucks for Mitch, he was having a DPOY worthy season. Cant remember hearing about a center leading the team in steals. Doesnt happen often I imagine.

Im glad Mitch's old coach is there to help him get through this setback.

I'm glad the FO applied for that exception. Would suck to have to use trade capital to fix this problem. Unless the FO uses this bad break to address the glut at guard. We have them for miles.

Brock Aller man! Who knows if it gets granted or not- an independent doctor has to make that determination. If Knicks apply are granted it and Robinson comes back, there's no penalty. So why not try?

I'm not sure if Knicks would be able to combine DPE with the TPE- my gut says yes, but I'm not sure.

Knicks are so close to the hard- cap anyway, it's hard to see how it gets used, especially when the guys available are all vet minimum players.

This kind of salary cap maneuvering is beyond non- experts like us.

Trade exceptions cannot be combined. The following is the current list of NBA TPEs. Also included are any Disabled Player Exceptions (DPE), which can only be used to acquire a single player whose contract expires after the 2022-23 season.Nov 11, 2023

Wiseman is unplayable even by DET, and Bagley is just as bad as Obi on defense.

cant replace Mitch, hard to think of anyone that would really play much. Taj and Hart is fine for now until Sims comes back.

I have not seen Wiseman at ALL this year but did see these. Zero clue if this is just cherry picking

You know Thibs ain't feeling Wiseman or Bagley. Doesn't make sense to waste assets on any of those guys.

Knicks could go bigger and maybe do Fournier and Jeffries for Stewart and Morris. It would require real Draft compensation but the Knicks own the future Detroit first and this years second rounder which looks like pick 31 or 32. These are worth more to them. Stewart has a poison pill because of recent extension but I think this deal works according to trade checker. Detroit would have to really be blowing it up though since they really like him. He would be a great backup center and backup 4 next year though.

I'd go after Luka Garza as insurance.
Nalod @ 12/21/2023 8:16 AM
its Christmas, we need not 3, but 1 Wiseman?

How long is Sims out?

1-2 weeks I think. For eval, so you never know

Not panic time for a trade. Im sure we looking though.
Mitch's injury might define him now as a back up? I never saw him as our starting center on a true contending team but his work this year was super inspiring and gave me 2nd thoughts to that. In part was his ability to not jump after everything and his fouls reducing, but his hands on defense were incredible! That I never thought he'd be this good at. I kind of thought we went after Mitchel we'd swap him for Allen given they are close but Mitch on a better deal. Not now. Not after he an injury risk. the foot that was operated on, was it the one he had done two years ago?
We now understand why he was so blue a week ago after surgery. He knew what we just learned. he done for the year. We blue cuz we lose a super likable guy, our defensive anchor, and a very tradable chip if it came to that.

Chandler @ 12/21/2023 8:36 AM

Somewhere Briggs is pounding the table for Boban!

No desperation moves. We should be looking for a backup not a starter and only then if we think Sims can’t play backup minutes

Devastating news! Feel bad for Rob cause he was having such a great season! But I have no doubts he will rehab and come back strong next season.

As for the rest of the season, we're pretty screwed. This drops us a tier and a top six seed is no longer a given and winning a playoff round is also very unlikely now. Rob was the anchor on defense, the best offensive rebounder in the league and just remember how he dominated Cleveland in the playoffs. And there is just nobody we can trade for that will replace him completely.

Best bet might be to just continue to go with Hartenstein and Sims but we should sign or trade for a cheap veteran big like Drummond or trade some of those firsts we have for someone like Olynyk?

This sucks!!!

SupremeCommander @ 12/21/2023 9:00 AM
Sucks for Mitch, sucks for the Knicks

We have a complete lack of big men on the roster. We’ll be lucky to make it out of the first round this year. I said it when the plan was to back to Hart at the 4, the roster strategy was suspect FOR THE EXACT REASON. Injuries happen and you have to be prepared for that. What happens now if Randle reaggravates his injury? We’re completed screwed if he or IHart goes down for any length of time

martin @ 12/21/2023 9:16 AM
All these guards on the roster that can use minutes and of course all the C's get hurt.
JesseDark @ 12/21/2023 9:24 AM
Can we get Pascal Siakam from Toronto? That would be a long shot given the history with Dolan and lawsuit. Top that off with their GM already wanting the most, I don't know. I do think him and Hartenstein woud be a nice 1-2 combo.
LivingLegend @ 12/21/2023 9:38 AM
Go get me I Stewart from Pistons - this kid is a Knick and would fit Thibs/NY like a glove - plus gives us some perimeter shooting potential.
LivingLegend @ 12/21/2023 9:44 AM
Wonder if Ayton could be had at reasonable price
NYKBocker @ 12/21/2023 9:45 AM
Goddam! This fucking sucks!
VDesai @ 12/21/2023 9:45 AM
This is just awful news. Mitch has always been less than durable, but with all his physical strength I thought maybe he turned a corner. These ankle things can happen any time to any player, so just sucks it happened to Mitch.

Noel makes sense in the near term. At least a 10 day contract for a look (if we can do those right now). I do like Isiah Stewart - he's undersized, but he's super tough and has range. Can help out at the 4 too.

No to those 2 centers but yes to I Stewart and Morris seems redundant unless we know we are moving IQ near deadline but agree Detroit is good trade partner.

He doesn’t seem so bad now - you’re right though thought of those hands batting balls away like A Judge is depressing. He’s probably already going thru plays with Thibs.
