DDV sitting in one corner, OG on opposite side.
Is THIS lane wide open enough for you Brunson and Randle?
Has there ever been double 40’s posted?
slept on it and been trying to talk myself into it. losing two homegrown guys in RJ and IQ,two of my fav players who were also super durable really hurts. hard to really get excited about it.
Grimes showed last season if you give him 30mpg he can score 11ppg and defend very well. OG averages about 13ppg per 30 min.
Yea he's better but he's also injury prone and could end up getting close to 40m. he's not THAT much better and he's not a 40m player.
just not a huge fan. in some ways the DDV signing and this whole Nova thing is leaving a bad taste and kind of ruined some good vibes here.
DDV is good but we basically chose him over IQ. we could have just not signed DDV and kept playing Grimes and IQ 30mpg.

😂 What are your New Year's resolutions going to be ?
not real high on Dejonte either but at this point we do need to trade Evan's salary for something. otherwise it would be real hard to match salary for another star trade down the line without touching core pieces.
so might be worth taking a shot on DJ and if it doesn't work maybe he ends up being the key piece in a trade later along with a boatload of picks
When I make my fans are overrating Quick statement it is for fans like this. People like this guy is acting like OG is a scrub compared to Quick. Acting like OG's only way to get paid was his CAA conntections to us is crazy. OG was going to get paid no matter what. Quick is a good player but fans are making him into something he is not and might never be. What is the saying seeing him through rose tinted glasses? They ignore all his 1 for 10 games and how he failed to play well for the entire playoffs after having a 6th man of the year regular season just because the teams pressured him.
Honestly…like this trade…….if RJ showed 50% of how he played in the playoffs and start of the season with the multifaceted game with enough defense to counter balance the jumbo wings we would have to go thru in the East…you don’t need a trade like this…
IQ is a revelation…credit to Knicks coaching, development, and drafting staff….they along with IQ himself turn him from a 20s pick into a potential $25 mill player…..honestly I don’t see him as a starting point….i still think him in a 6 man role really allows him to shine on the Knicks….I personally think 25 mill for IQ is too much and had Leon given him that contract it would have limited the number of suitors that would have been interested…..saying that to say this….IQ was going to be moved at some point…just like RJ….at 18-19 mill…this is the sweet spot contractually from Leon’s perspective….not and overpay and probably a hair under the max you would have in mind annually for him..(I’m not considering teams like SA or ORL that would put 25 mill on the table just to pry Quick in RFA)
As someone said jumbo wing defenders with a realible three point shot are diamonds in todays league….to get OG….who I have ranked below Mikal…for quick and RJ is the cost of doing business ….you have to give up an asset to get an asset and Masai was never doing this deal for RJ with draft capital that would have left us with 50% of our good picks to do a finishing deal…yes we would have had the IQ chip but players value in a season can be a variable at times…
All in all this makes us bigger….yes we lost 35pts…but I think we can hold the fort until the other deal drops….like someone was saying…I think a deal like this makes sense to get Mitchell now…
Maybe it is Murray and play out this yr and use him as the chip for Mitchell…
We’ll see..

This has been on my mind since the video of JB celebrating the Hart signing. Which also meant less minutes for some of his teammates.
The DDV signing doubled down on this. Less minutes to go around (not to mention the Obi fire sale).
DDV is going to have to keep having great games like yesterday to make me feel ok about us giving up IQ.
I honestly thought IQ was untouchable, and destined for a bigger role. The most upbeat Knick of my lifetime, and improving every single year.
I'm hoping for a Sprewell effect, where months from now we're all praising the moves, despite how crappy they might feel right now. Starks was 33 however... so that pill was a lot easier to swallow.

I still hate it. It doesn't feel right. There was something special about rooting for a young team with players that we drafted who were contributing. Even if some of those players (RJ) did not reach the expectations of where they were drafted. We watched RJ and IQ grow and they helped change the culture and make us a competitive team. It would have been easier to stomach if we traded them for a legit star. But they were traded for a role player. Just doesn't feel right.
I think OGA is the most overrated player in the entire league. Yes, he's elite defensively and there is value in that. And yes, he can hit a corner three at a really efficient clip. But was that worth our 2 best young players?
This only becomes a good trade if OGA goes on to become an All-Star level player and we make a good follow up trade. I don't see it. Otherwise, it's going to go on to another long line of awful trades imo. Currently I see us losing and sliding back into fighting for a play in spot. Before the trade, we have a good chance at a top 6 playoff seed. I don't see it anymore.
And Achiuwa and Flynn are garbage. Hoping Sims and Deuce get those back up miniutes.
Now this is the stuff I like to see. Making a team that compliment each other.
From what Leon Rose and staff have done the last few seasons they are good for one trade during the season. Think they are done or will we make a follow up trade to get another SG or another wing to add to the SL I mean what if we play OG at the 2 and a forward at the 3 ? And/Or add a capable center ? What if instead of Dejaunte from Atlanta DeAndre Hunter is made available for less. Then the team goes big with OG at the 2. Could the team go with a 6'8"" SF if he is a good defender and shooter. Then we have Heart, Randall, Hunter ( or someone like him or Grant from Portland ) OG, Brunson. Then off the bench we have DDV, Hart, Deuce, Precious, Simms.

At some point we need to start building towards the finished product though. A guy like OG is a "must" in the starting lineup with Brunson and Randle. An elite defender and corner 3 guy. Probably the next best thing to Mikal. Knicks were always gonna need a starter to match with the elite forwards of the East. This move puts us one move away now instead of being a cute fun team.
Most teams have to sell a little bit of their soul to get a chip. That's just reality.
Also, IMO, short term this team was close to spiraling this season if they didn't do something to fix their defense.
Knicks are starting to look like a functional "fit". Losing IQ hurts the most but RJ was always the odd man out in the starting lineup.
DDV looking like one of the best shooters in the league probably made it easier to lose IQ as well.

I will build on this. Fans have been harping on Leon and Wes letting us know those guys were only here because of their connections and why haven't they been able to make a move for someone with their connections. They just did it, for the second time.
Every contending FO in the league was hunting for an OG trade. Every one besides maybe Clippers cause they already got 2 elite wing guys.
Deep into playoffs, you need big wings to defend. OG is one of the best.

I agree.
Brunson/McBride/Flynn
DDV/Grimes
OG/Hart
Randle/Gibson
Hart/Achiuwa/Sims
/(Robinson)
Roster looks a little in flux. The McBride extension makes me think they are going to allocate extra minutes to him and wanted to lock him up to a reasonable contract.
I think Sadiq Bey would be another good add here.
So who won the deal? The plaintiff or the defendant?
And which is which?
I will say, IQ averaged almost 30mpg last year, this idea that he never got a chance here is a bit false.
