I need time to get my thoughts together on this trade, but just remember, Toronto offered him that 4 year max and he turned it down. He wanted more opportunity, and just got traded to the same situation.
He’s CAA. He will be extended
I am going to be honest, I am not sure what is worse. Signing him to a contract north of the 30 mil he turned down, or not signing him and letting him walk for nothing. This is not angood situation in my eyes.
Only way this trade makes sense is we let OG walk in FA and use cap room to get a superstar like Giannis
I don’t mind this deal.
I liked RJ but really didn’t him around long term because his game is basic and vanilla. Nothing wrong with that but we need more oomph on the wing.
IQ, I will miss, but in that Miami series he was harassed when bringing the ball up. Miami just won that battle every time. And then I think it got into his head and was ineffective.
I like that we consolidated our minutes. There are guys who haven’t gotten a shot who deserve one, Deuce coming to mind immediately
Only way this deal makes sense is if we get $30 million in cap room next season after OG opts out and we exercise the club option on Fournier. Then maybe we can sign or trade for a superstar. If that’s the plan fine. Otherwise I hate this trade

Then I like this trade more.
We trade a 18 ppg 20-yo superstar + 6th man of the year + picks for a 26 yo, 15 ppg, injury prone guy
Wow this is so bad that it reminds me of the Isiah Thomas years. Marbury trade again
blkexec wrote:Clean wrote:I think people need to see how easily Quick was schemed out of the game in the playoffs. He been getting overrated big time. He is a really good player during the regular season but once Clev and MIA pressured him he disappeared the whole postseason until he got injured.
There you go Clean. Not afraid to touch one of our great young prospects in IQ. He’s well loved around here, so tread lightly lol.
I agree that Knick fans overrate IQ. But even casual fans. Dude dropped 40 on the Celtics. The issue I have with IQ is he’s looking for a different role than what we offering. We want him to be a 6 man. He wants to be an nba starting PG. So that’s the mix match. He wants starter money, we only offering bench money. That’s a conflict.
I also noticed IQ started wearing the same blinders as RJ. But IQ was hitting so it wasn’t talked about much. And the final straw was DDV starting over IQ. And Thibs pulling IQ during the game when he was hot. Then putting him in too late during winnable games.
So Leon is putting all his eggs into Thibs, JB, Randle and the Nova pipeline connection. While adding the top SF defender who’s also a backup PF. Plus a center. This is such a here and now move with sneaky long term benefits depending on OG extension and cap. Especially if this leads us to another move now that Leon is warmed up.
I never been one to follow a crowd lol. I have my opinions and I will go with them even though it gets me in trouble a lot of times in sports forums. Many won't agree with me but I have my reasons.

Yeah if we are setting up cap space for DM then fine. I like the trade. If we are giving OG an extension right off the bat then no F this

I'm waiting for Donovan I think. He will force his way here now.
Agreed, I have zero interest in LaVine. Way too many red flags.
Give me DM.
Give me Dejounte Murray. Another plus defender, playmaker, and can score 20ppg.
I think Murrays offensive game is a tad overrated. We have plenty of defenders here now.
Give me a premiere clutch offensive performer.
If Knicks are all-in on Thibs then get Thibs type players. I think Dejounte scoring is just enough for the Knicks. Plus we're pretty bad in assists and Murray is a legit playmaker.
Imagine a lineup of Dejounte-OG-Mitch. You as an opponent are NOT scoring sir.

This has to be a cap clearing move. We get $30+ mil in cap space after OG exercises his player option and we opt out Fournier
At least I hope
It is always fun seeing fans reaction to news like this.

You are right that OG can be an UFA. Do you really think that Leon and OG's agent really haven't worked out the details of the next contract yet?
OG's agent is Leon's son.
blkexec wrote:nycericanguy wrote:put it like this, trading for KP would have made us better than this while still keeping RJ & IQ.
If Leon had this decision again , knowing what he knows now, he pulls that KP trade.
Keep in mind Leon was a rookie GM learning on the job. I think Isiah Thomas was the last GM I remember coming on a job and making a huge controversial trade for Marbury. Leon is more conservative and calculated. He waits for the right time and I’m sure he sees some past mistakes.
With that said I think this is a nice deal. Knicks did not want either player. IQ too expensive and no starting role. RJ played his way off the team. OG is 30mil and RJ/IQ is well north of that. And these are two guards out the rotation. Plus too many damn left handed slashers on one team.
IQ hurts but there’s a lot of opportunities now to improve short term and still set up for a superstar trade.
What and when was KP on the table for knicks to trade for him and when was it reported knicks were interested in him? I don't recall.
Fans be all over the place on IQ upside. Interesting stuff.
"Precious" being over looked in this deal? he is RFA and seems a solid back up. Being a RFA himself Massai had a lot on his plate to decide on between Siakim, OG, Precious and Trent Jr.
As for DM, he is ball dominant and avg's 20 shots a game. I like him a lot but fit?
My take: Thibs needs to get Grimes back on track and Chemistry matters. IQ was blocking Grimes a bit?
IQ as PG was not great.
On any given night IQ could be our best player.
And he has improved every year, the way he hoped RJ would.
I really hate to see IQ go, and hope that OG surpasses my expectations.
A day like today was inevitable the day we signed Donte.
IQ will see more minutes in Toronto... and they are going to ****ing love him.

Fucking hate this trade. Not because of RJ but losing IQ is just huge. We’re going to have issues scoring.

Depends on what the next move is.

Good find. I’m waiting to hear from CP now.
They look happier than most Knick fans in this chat and other chats.
30 plus mil sounds like a typical Leon move. Looks bad at first then later on looks brilliant.

We have JB for that.
Think this is just a move that aligns our needs for SL. We needed a guy who can hit a three and play really good defense at the three. RJ did neither. We now have someone who can do both at a high click.
You look at our last two losses, OG guarding Williams and Wagner, these games may go to us.

You do not understand the Salary Cap.
Fuck it. Good luck IQ and RJ! Except against us.
Thanks for all the years!
Welcome OG, PA and Flynn!
Let's kick some ass!!
