Knicks · For those that feel Randle is a bad fit, how about........ (page 2)

You look at how the media is pushing Towns. I mean $60milliin better get us the freak or reincarnated MJ.
KAT is not better than Randle. And certainly not worth his contract.
Yet so many pushing how that will be so much better for us.
My push has been spots that are obvious upgrade needs. AKA, PG not Frank, starting SG better than Grimes, more versatile SF than RJ .
Right now, seems like we are rolling. However, feel we need a third option to close games.
Demar costs little. Maybe a good option. Brogdon would be nice. Specially if it costs EF and some seconds. More than okay with staying put, aside from those type of moves.
HofstraBBall wrote:Seems like I have been defending Julius since his arrival. He fits with JB and would work well if another star at the 2 was added. Maybe Blazers flip Randle for extra picks if they continue to rebuild, shed salary with expiring EF or add pieces around Randle to be competitive? Randle, Fournier, Arcidiacono, two seconds for Grant, Brogdon.
The dream would be Jackson. Probably not something that the Grizzlies are close to doing but worth hoping. Would obviously take a lot of picks but maybe if they do not do anything this year they try to save some salary being a smaller market team? So, Jackson, Kennard (gives us another shooter), Williams for Randle, Fournier, Sims and three firsts.

Sacrilege bro!
I feel like we've been posting on forums together since the days of the.Marbury trade and now you're suggesting JJJ as an upgrade to JR? What! Every thing that has gone right for this franchise started with Julius and he's still the heart and soul of the team. He's the definition of bleeding orange and blue. His contract extension more or less set the bar for every contract following it because the front office can point to it as a fair market deal.
There's still the lingering concern about playoff performance but the way I see it is that post Milwaukee perfect 1st half Julius has leveled up by attacking the basket. Outside of the stinker vs. Philly he has been unstoppable. And you can see that now that he has an all defense running mate he's really picked up his game on defense as well.
So no man. We're winning a banner with Julius or we're not winning a banner. No other way.
Nobody likes cry baby Randle.
Bully ball Randle is 🔥
Can’t have three ball dominant lefty / lacking defense and starter mins
Randle was loved until the thumbs down
But we have a new gangsta in town. The original OG

Lol. Can't think of you and I would talk about if Randle or Deuce got traded.
Agree about he beat version of Randle.
OG has been great. Win win for both teams. RJ with 37 and 6 yesterday and Raptors rolling as well
Seems like future rivalry reigniting.

So your saying Randle is extremely valuable and offers great value?
You see the stealth reasoning yet?
Got tired of seeing Towns for Randle starphuck suggestions.
JJ is someone I would be okay trading him for though. IF I was one of " those who feel Randle is bad fit". But as mentioned, has a slim to none chance. Which is the case with most conclusions reached once you go to past "we hate him let's trade him" phase.
Grant would probably be the only one hard to argue "those" looking to move on. .

Randle's extension was not a discount. It was his maximum extension. Sorry, but this drives me crazy. If his contract is the bar OG's deal will start at 42 million b/c that's the MOST we can offer. It is like two years ago when fans would swear RJ was great after New Year's. someone would always chime in he shot terribly after New Year's that season. Still, fans who wanted that part of the narrative to be true never stopped saying it. Randle is having a GREAT season. He has taken a lot of criticism in the past. People who have been fans of his and detectors of his should admit that. We should also be able to acknowledge that he did not take a discount.
This from ESPN back in the day...
New York Knicks All-Star forward Julius Randle has agreed to a four-year, $117 million contract extension -- elevating his deal's total value to five years and $140 million, his agents, Aaron Mintz and Steven Heumann of CAA Sports, told ESPN.The extension includes a player option on the final season in 2025-26.
Randle had a remarkable, breakthrough season for the Knicks, earning the NBA's Most Improved Player award and second-team All-NBA honors on his way to leading the franchise back to the playoffs with a fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Randle could've waited for his contract to expire next season and signed a new $200 million deal, but extending now off his current $19.8 million salary for 2021-22 gives the Knicks financial flexibility to shape the roster and allows him to commit through his prime to a franchise and city he has come to adore -- and one that has come to adore him.
Randle, 26, flourished under the NBA's Coach of the Year, Tom Thibodeau, averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Randle helped return the Knicks to the postseason and became something of a New York basketball cult hero for playing such a significant role in the Knicks' revitalization.
Randle arrived to the Knicks on a three-year free-agent deal in 2018 after two seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans and four with the Los Angeles Lakers. Randle was the No. 7 pick out of Kentucky in the 2014 NBA draft.

He could have waited and been ELIGIBLE for 200 million and honestly, no one was giving him 200 million after 21-22. The current contract was seen as a negative asset by many after his follow-up season. The amount he signed for was the MOST he could get at that time. He took the most guaranteed money he could have been offered based on the CBA instead of betting that his health and performance in the upcoming season would earn him more. That's not taking a discount. It turned out to be a wise decision for Randle and the Knicks

Knick fans are like most. Like underdogs. They like defense blue collar over achievers.
They definitely don't like anyone making a lot of money. Think only chip players who bring them bragging rights of a chip are the only ones worth big contacts.
Ewing was one of the best players we ever had. If not for one Michael Jordan, he would have won a couple of chips IMO.
Think Randle is a different case. Has done a better job of not losing his temper, techs but can still improve in how much he complains about refs. He also is a bigger usage player vs Ewing. Often handles the ball and commits silly TO's. Do agree that there is just not enough appreciation for what he does. Hopefully he just continues to improve and wins over those that doubted he was any good. That would mean that the Knicks are winning and doing well.

I've been in management majority of my life. One of the things learned from the mentors before me was to "eliminate the excuses". When Knicks first brought Randle in it was without adequate PG play. He played a ton of point forward and it was terrible. Today he is paired with an elite PG. RJ was drafted the following year to signing Randle. Between the spacing, the need for the ball in their hands, and average defense. The fit just didn't seem to be ideal and led to plateauing. Swapping RJ with OG offers the improvement in spacing and defense for a better fit with Randle.
Its up to Randle now. Though a 3pt/shot blocker behind Hartenstein would be the final piece for Randle's utopia.
He really wants to bring his game to another level. Use his talent to get Hartenstein easy shots after he pulls down 10+rebs and protects the paint with huge blks. And OG easy shots after he locks up the opponent's best perimeter player. Then in crunch time with Brunson take over the games while minimizing any low IQ turnovers.

While him factoring threat of injury, as part of decision process, may have played a part in him taking less, is there any chance that he may have taken less to ALSO allow Knicks to build a better team? Seems like you are pretty certain that he would not have garnished any interest, more money, was unwilling to bet on himself or that he was not also interested in being on a winning team.
All negatives you seem to easily consider as fact.

I am not.
It seems like EwingPSD is conducting some revisionist history with the benefit of knowing what happened in 2021-22 after the fact.
The consensus at the time was pretty well accepted that he took a discount.

He took less than what was available. If thats a discount, then call it as such.
It was an extension.
He was discarded by Lakers for cap space, then a short stint with Nola.
In NY he found a home and flourished with Thibs.
He sucked at Point forward and has grown into it. He is unique second tier all star.
He drives us crazy at times.
