https://nypost.com/2024/01/12/sports/car...Melo made a lot of money and is a HOF player based on his gaudy point total in his career.
He entitled to his opinion.
As I mine.
His jersey don't hang on the rafters and save a few games. The team was not doing much other than winning one playoff series. He had a great year.
He could carry the team and did for one great season.
He came here in his prime to much celebration.
RJ is 23, has yet to reach his prime.
Melo is and will be the better player. But talking smack about a good kid who gave nobody trouble and worked hard is tacky.
Not evil, his comment not make Melo a bad person, but he is not the face of the knicks. If you jersey not hanging in the rafters, you can't talk.
I never heard any retired jersey knicks talk like he just did.
Not going to argue that RJ was or was not "exciting". He was not. But neither was a lot of other guys.
Brunson is pretty bland a personality also. So what. He gets the job done.
RJ was inconsistent. No shit.
Melo is hanging out like he Knick Royalty.
Commentary is the thing. You say nothing but bland things and no one listens. If Gilbert Arenas can speak garbage and get a crowd listening, Melo can speak simple truths regardless of whether it is polite or kind. I wish no ill will to Barrett, but Melo is not wrong. Curious what Melo says about Randle...

If one must sensationalize ones words then one really has not much to say. Your right, be outrageous and gain an audience but at some point substance over style endures.
Personally I always did not love melo on the court but I though he carried himself well in the spotlight and took the heat as well as anyone. His departure was handled well by knicks and him despite obviously not in agreement. Old news.
I just think its not "Gracious" for a HOF player to be lower himself as I think he did with RJ.
Jokic wears 15 before he joins Denver.
Denver did not retire his jersey.
He wanted to leave.
Jokic is multi MVP, chip winner and NOW Melo speaks up about it?
Someone is being a sourpuss.......

I get it, a healthy ego fuels these guys. I can respect that.
C'mon Melo, You are a god in Syracuse and you rejected Denver for the bright lights of NYC and the spot light with La-La.
They paid you, you scored a lot of points, it was good, then you asked out. Did you win a chip? An MVP?
No. You were and all star and All NBA. Thats nice, but not beloved. In NY, you "Came home" and fans bought it.
Glad your a knick, but its not a good look to Nalod.
Just my opinion, not a fact.
They needed to step it up this week in the podcast wars after the Katt Williams interview, the Kimmel Aaron Rogers thing and the Stephen A./ Whitlock beef. I don't listen to any of them, but I can see they're trying to catch that Pay McAfee money. Podcasting is a brutal sport I guess.
McAfee with is stoner jock act post ESPN pull back is awful stuff. The Aaron Rodgers thing perfect example.
Spewing nonsense from someone who lost his mind because he was the best QB to non win multiple Chips does not make him an authority on anything. The Trump clown show fuels this nonesense.
That Melo has to stoop low for ratings is a shame. It does him harm long term catering to a short term rating boast. Im disappointed more than anything as I really want to like Melo. I try. Seems what he says and what he does was not always consistent. Perhaps that is why Denver does not warm up to his time there. In NY, he wanted to be here but in the end he said things when he resigned his contract with us that he would sacrifice for the team to adhere to the triangle. He did not. We can argue the triangle failed, or did he fail the triangle? We know really only Jordan and Kobe unlocked it. Melo could not. I blame both Phil and him equally. From that point on he did not take care of his body or his craft and he declined. His resurgence In portland after a bad stint OKC was a nice story but I get the notion this was a man more concered with his legacy and did not like leaving it on a low note. I admire that, but it was about him. To me he let knick fans down. Not all agree.
Melo had a brilliant career in Denver and NY but it not a brilliant “Denver career” or “Knick career”. It was melo in a uniform having a brilliant HOF career. He is not like many others and I don’t fault him for that, but I won’t put him on a pedestal and perhaps its why his uniform is not retired. He put himself above?
Lebron was about winning and perhaps he fucked over teams but he won a chip with three teams. Lebron comes for Lebron reasons, but once there he might be “LeGM” but he took care of his body, his craft, and three banners in three cities!
Melo is and deserving of first ballot HOF. I won’t hate on him forever but I just hope he would take the gracious approach to be content with his career and maybe some shortfalls but still able to compliment others. I was enjoying recent Melo in retirement showing up to knick games and being a dad.
How is it talking “smack” if it’s the truth?
Are you worried about Barretts feelings?…and what does Jokic/Denver situation have to do with this?
I saw melo made some sort of comment about RJs inconsistencies saying he might have 26 one night then 4 the next. And he had 4 points last night. What are the odds.
Swishfm3 wrote:How is it talking “smack” if it’s the truth? Are you worried about Barretts feelings?…and what does Jokic/Denver situation have to do with this?
No need to call him on and off the court “Bland”.
Like I said, he is not “wrong”. You read, right?
I provided a link about him saying giving JOkic 15 was them trying to “erase me”.

If its not wrong then what’s the problem?
Just say you wanted to make a thread about Melo and leave at that
You know what was really exciting? Carmelo’s tenure with the Knicks 2013-2017.
I’ll take “bland” RJ and the winning seasons he had here. He had as many playoff series wins as Carmelo btw
Knixkik wrote:I saw melo made some sort of comment about RJs inconsistencies saying he might have 26 one night then 4 the next. And he had 4 points last night. What are the odds.
And Melo would always be consistent scoring 26. He could do it on 10-12 shooting or 10-50 shooting

I explained my point. You need not agree but I won't leave it at that.
I did not say Melo was factually wrong but to call a player "bland" who played here 4.5 years is not a gracious person. Melo comes off insecure about his legacy if he stoops to lower level?
Melo made these comments, not Nalod. Melo wants us to talk about him to gain attention? Here it is. Good with the bad.
Nalod recognizes RJ inconsistent play. Thats why I said he was not wrong.
Nalod sees Melo as less than gracious toward RJ and Denver organization. That aint right.
I see it as Denver did not erase the memory of Melo, it just was not that great. It was great for Melo and his branding and he built a core HOF career there. But when you ask out, and your team goes on to draft and develop a multi MVP and win a chip then its not so much that Melo was erased. It was flat out eclipsed.
This latest bit of comment comes off as one who is a bit bitter about his legacy. My opinion he feels slighted by Nuggets organization but forgets that he wanted out.
To me, Great players with great legacies find ways to graciously say things about trades without putting down anyone.
They did not retire his uniform.
Knicks have not either. My take is if that is to happen the path might be Allan Houstan gets his first.
Melo lead the league in scorning one year and had multiple all star nods. Individual awards attained while in a knick uni.
Ewing got his defining an era of team success.
Melo will get the love in Springfield. HE lead Syracuse to a chip, and statistically a great NBA career.
I did look at whom Denver has retired and I can see they did not raise the bar as say the knicks have.
Byron Beck was a 10 year "beloved" guy there (9 of 10 were ABA), but "Fat" lever and Mutumbo while Allstars, did not have long tenures or the level that Melo did.
Dan Issel had a storied career, was GM, coach and I get that.
David Thompson? He as incredible and they did go to ABA finals, but he was traded soon after.
Alex English was 8 time Allstar, 11 years and true HOF.
I can see where Melo sees himself over those guys but they were "beloved" and did not ask out. That might be the big intangible.
In NY, they don't retire many numbers unless your Ewing or have a chip.

LOL.
Wasn't there a CEO Melo profile some summer? I remember a picture of him chomping on a cigar and the thrust of the article was about how he was using his fame to get involved in business. I wish he would stick with that.

I thought Melo’s description was accurate but the comments were somewhat nasty.
Makes me think maybe he felt disrespected by RJ for some reason but also think Melo is tool.
WTF!
Me personally, I like that RJ was the type of player that was not drawing attention for antics on court. Whether he was on or off you know the opponnent had him in his game plan. There are plenty of good to very good to great players that did their work in silence.
It's just a bad look.
OG seems like a quiet assassin type. "Bland"?
Depends on who is call it.
Morant is far from bland on or off the court but if his arrogance fuels his motivation its not a good look.
How did he injure his shoulder? Impatience in the weight room? Dunking to exact humiliation to demonstrate dominance?
Im admit I assume the worst of this kid.
At the end of the day winning is what matters.
Melo's career speaks for itself. His is done.
I don't blame him for the lack of success . My biggest gripe if any was he resigned here which I was good with, said he'd "Sacrifice" for the triangle. His physical decline and that converged badly. Phil wrongly thought Melo could be the point forward for the triangle but Melo gave it 1/3rd of a season. A lot of things went wrong and plenty of blame to go around. Its as Phils job and his legacy on the line as an exec. It failed. Melo succeeded statistically
After listening to a few more snippets, it doesn't sound as bad. Basically, he's saying RJ is safe and isn't an electric player, which is true. RJ will get you points, but won't necessarily do it with a lot flair.

For sure it does not sound as arrogant as it was depicted. Mero set him up also.
