Knicks · [Game Thread 1/15/24 @3PM] Knicks vs Magic for MLK mid afternoon Celebration (page 4)

Our bench is trash. Our second unit went from being a consistent advantage to something I dread seeing. Deuce reps, but he's not a guy you can rely on to get dudes organized in the offense. This loss sucks so much that I'm willing to trade anyone and anything.
VDesai @ 1/15/2024 5:29 PM
This game proves the Knicks have to make a deal for a guy like Brogdon. The offense was gross.
TheMTL @ 1/15/2024 5:29 PM
This is a different team without Brunson. This is why IQ was so important.
LivingLegend @ 1/15/2024 5:53 PM
Nice game from Deuce - he wasn’t a or the problem. OG was ok but lots of stumbling/bumbling around.

Playoff Julius returns and his stellar defense continues —- incredible player.

DD continues to struggle shooting at home —— 25% from 3 and 50% from FT today.

Precious is hard to watch - Flynn after nice game look scared - Thibs benching him entire 1/2 against Griz may not have helped.

Josh Hart probably gets the worst player award today —- bad decisions, bricking and just sloppy play.

Glad to see Deuce continue shooting well, but still too slow/indecisive with his play making. We clearly miss Brunson. At some point, we'll have to discuss our mediocre-at-best record against winning teams. Giving a pass for today.

Just because we wanted OG doesn't mean we have to play the other Craptors. Give me Jericho over Achiuwa and anyone over Flynn.

Deuce is a sloppy dribbler needs to tighten his handle. Deuce is fine off the bench as the benches secondary ball handler. Bench is sluggish and Precious plays with no energy, he is the Anti Obi. Need a spark plug for the bench who is not afraid to take it to the defense. Plus we need a better back up center Precious sucks. Add a Clarkson, Brogdon, or Rozier to the bench, yesterday please.

Deuce needs reps. I wouldn’t get down on him just yet. He gets crowded by Randle when Randle claps for the ball from the top of the key. Doesn’t even try to earn position on the block anymore. Just gets close to the ball handler and calls for ball.

Tonight’s game was everything that’s wrong with Randle, not McBride.

Just a bad game. We got beat.

I said nothing bad about Deuce. He is fine off the bench, but preferably with a better initiator for him to play with him. An aggressive player with more offensive creativity.

VDesai @ 1/15/2024 7:30 PM
Brogdon is the guy. He has point guard and sixth man experience, can get his own shot at 3 levels and is a high character culture guy. He is the perfect fit and Fournier + Arc + picks works or Fournier + Grimes works.

This is kind of why I said I was happy with our first loss. People started to get too high on the Knicks during our wins streak when we had very clear issues. This Brunson injury shines a light on even more issues. Everything needs to be on the table and that includes still trading Randle if the right deal pops up. I love McBride and Grimes but we need shot creator after Brunson. The more we have to rely on Randle the worse the team becomes. We also need a decent big off the bench. Call me crazy but Obi would be an upgrade over what we have now. Oh yea, Obi is also shooting 40% from 3 this year.

Obi likely won't be kept by Indiana and could be a bargain signing
But think he would return to Thibs ? Oh man, recall when NYCerican said J Hart can be the 6th man and that we shouldn't trade for Brogdon or other vets cause it would take time away from Grimes and Deuce. Oh boy. I like Deuce pair him with Brogdon or Clarkson.

DLeethal @ 1/16/2024 9:26 AM
it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that if Brunson went down this team was majorly F'ed. We are seeing that we are a sub .500 team without Brunson. These few games are a blessing though because that 5 game winning streak where we were blowing teams out by 30 points a night had a lot of us fooled that we were best off standing pat. This team needs a 3rd scorer who can step up when Brunson goes down. We might even need a 4th scorer like Hayward too as Randle insurance. Time to fortify the team, we are close to being a contender.

Flynn, Precious suck, Deuce is not a good enough spot-starter at PG but a fine bench player, Grimes is probably best used as trade bait for us. Get a backup C, a scoring PG/SG, and try to get Hayward for peanuts.

SergioNYK @ 1/16/2024 11:34 AM
Hard to really complain about a loss without Brunson but this was a game we should have won at home. The missed FT's hurt and Randle was awful. It happens.

I love Deuce and I'm willing to go through the growing pains but right now he's not a playmaker at guard. Having a vet like Brogdan or Murray would help him.

Would love to hear exactly what Donte was telling Deuce on that play where he leaves it off for him and he gets fouled. Deuce definitely wasn't quite in control at the end of the game and we struggled.

Missed FT/lack of focus from Randle was dissapointing. This was a game where needed to take over the scoring down the stretch and he gave us a nothing burger. He had been excellent down the stretch of games more recently.

What the actual fuck

Awful. Game was lost on this sequence. Jules needed to close this game for us- instead 2 missed FTs and we let the Magic have multiple chances at burying us.

There are a number of posters here who will get their panties in a bunch if anyone criticizes Randle - oh and his ankle is the excuse again even though he was playing like a turd prior to rolling it.

Julius remains a fascinating character ---- I'm sure if he's ever traded I'll be excited but what would we actually get in return. As most have recognized he is a frustrating player BUT he plays most every night, he's mostly productive, he seems to make the effort to improve but man he's hard to love all the way.

You just knew he was missing at least 1 and when he clanked both it was poetic justice for his overall game.

He fell back into 9 - 3 point attempts.

I've seen someone say when other players struggle they bare down harder in order to fix the issue or help the team - Julius on the other hand seems to go in the tank when adversity hits. He's been off (mentally/emotionally) for a few games now (thinking back to his play against Macs and Grizz) --- maybe more.

Hmmmm bunched panties calling the kettle black…..

Forgive those of us who note his virtues while not denying imperfections. And thought it was a dumb idea to attach multiple firsts with him for John Wall.

We should win the next one. Rockets look pretty soft.
