What surprises me is that Grimes has spent every summer as a pro training with Penny Hardaway. The man had one of the sickest handles for a PG his size in NBA history. I cant fathom how Grimes handle looks exactly the same as his rookie season, maybe worse. Doesnt make sense.

I wonder how much pickup bball he plays over the summer? Might be the same issue Frank had. Too much gym, not enough playground.

maybe just "learning" the skill of one of the NBA's best players is a talent limitation?

I didnt expect Grimes to become as skilled as Penny, or even ballpark. But 3-4 summers with Penny, and he didnt learn one move?? Thats whats so surprising.

Getting good enough to drive with with one hand, and going behind the back and finishing with the weak hand, or kicking it for a 3. thats not very hard to learn. Might be confidence more than anything.

I dont believe the book is closed yet on Grimes career as a potential starter. But I do believe he needs the wake up call of a trade. And more time on a bench to develop. Wasnt happening as a starter, with this lineup. Always thought it was too much too soon.

He played on the FIBA practice squad and I've seen clips of him playing open runs in the summer. I think it's confidence and overthinking. He drives the paint and he's like "should I shoot it? Thibs told me not to take midrange? Should I take it to the rack? Nah, the angle is gone? Let me pass somewhere then..." I'm disappointed he didn't take the initiative in putting up shots last game, but minutes plays a part too. I would've gave like to see him grab some of Hart's minutes.

Agree with confidence being an issue. Also, as I just wrote, being rushed into the starting lineup didnt do Grimes any favors. Too many ball dominant teammates, and by his own admission, afraid to make mistakes.

Thibs can give off a drill sergeant vibe at times. Maybe a looser coach would help. Some players can better adapt to a certain style of coaching than others.

Unfortunately, the team is no longer in the wait and watch mode. The OG trade pushed the timetable significantly and Grimes needs to show and prove. And to be fair, he has shown a bit more aggressiven3ss shooting the ball. But now he has to put it together, whether he's here or moved in a trade.

Agree on all points. We need more of an offensive punch off the bench, since IQ left. Dont believe Grimes game is at a stage where he can pick up the slack. We need another 6th man of the year (potential) candidate.

The reason why IQ was a finalist was due to the fact that he was starting material. I dont believe the FO should limit themselves to looking for bench players on other teams to fill that role.

Murray, Ivey, Timmy, would all fit the bill. OG just became a Knick. DDV is playing like a starter, I hope this lineup gets the time to gel.

A guard who is a nightly scoring threat off the bench, and a backup PF, who is good enough to give Randle a few less minutes, would be ideal. Better than another post-season of Randle being either gassed or hurt.

Since the Knicks don’t leak anything this has to be coming from Grimes agent.

Moving grimes makes sense. OG is a bigger, better version. DiVincenzo and Hart have been added in the last year. 3 players who are more complete on the wing. McBride becoming a smaller version of the same skill set with the shooting and point of attack defense has really crunched Grimes.

Knicks can move him and Fournier for a player with a different skill set. Fournier, grimes and 1 protected pick (non-Knicks pick) for either Brogdon or Bojan Bogdanovic makes sense. I know neither are perfect players (Brogdons injury background and Bogdanovics age) but Knicks are at the point where they need to solidify the rotation and these last 2 games have made it obvious that this team isn’t capable of much without Brunson. Adding scoring can at least offset that slightly.

Or other GMs trying to blow up a Knick deal that's looming. I remember IQ had these same rumors swirling about last season. Who knows what all this leads to in the Game of Zones.

Ah, the good ole days. Remember when the Knicks were asking for 2 FRP's for Obi. Good times

I like Grimes but i wouldn't be surprised if FO is getting tired of waiting on him

Siakam cost three mediocre firsts and he is better then Murray. So Murray will cost two mediocre firsts. Give em Milwaukees pick and the Dallas pick

Siakam is about to be a free agent and get the max. Murray is on a longterm fair deal.

a very good deal. Murray is a good player. Is he the right fit? We literally just fixed the RJ spacing problem. Getting Murray means he's a set starter at the 2. While he's a better player than DD he' not as good a fit at SG.

Murray isn't quite the last call chick (Clarkson, Burks), but the cute chick whose by herself for a reason. You can talk yourself into it, but there are enough red flags for you to know it's not going to end well.

Coby White might make a good trade target. Very reasonable deal. He's playing better on both sides of the ball this season. He's a high energy player, which we need off the bench. He wants to start but maybe he can be convinced to be a 6th man for the Knicks.

I'd say offer Grimes, but it would likely take more than that. Not sure what the Bulls are in the market for.

I think White is off the table as long as Lavine stays on the market. White is their guard going forward.

He’s much better than Bullock but yes, overrated by Knicks fans and definitely good trade bait to try to get a superstar as part of a package

Coby is their future if Lavine is on the trade block.
This is a good example of a player maturing after a few years.
Maybe we keep Grimes.
But if he can't hit his shots here and now, then its about the here and now, now.
Knixkik @ 1/19/2024 8:19 AM
Grimes was thriving last year as a starter and the only defensive wing on the team. Then we traded for Hart and hart essentially replaced grimes to finish games. Then we added DiVincenzo over the summer who is more diverse offensively. Now adding OG as a bigger more realized version of grimes really was the final straw. Grimes has seemed to not appreciate the competition in his role even though the minutes are still there for him and he’s ready to move on. You can see it in his body language. I think the Knicks should move him while there’s still some perceived upside there and his archetype is still at its peak value. I like him as a player but is he closer to Danny green or damyean Dotson who put up very similar numbers in his second year as grimes and was also a good defensive player.
