No but it's indicative of a coach that gets his team ready to play every night. And beating all of the teams you should beat --> gives you an optimal record and playoff seeding --> gives you the best chance possible to succeed in the playoffs.
Knicks are separating from Miami, Indy, ORL and a top 5 is forming. Avoiding the play-in and avoiding BOS/MIL/PHI will give the Knicks the best shot to make a playoff run.

We all know that Thibs is one of the all time great regular season coaches. But after so many years in the league, and because he's our coach. Its not something I like hanging our hat on, even for a second. I want to see a deep run, and build from there.
To me, the difference between regular season success and the playoffs. Is like winning a car on a game show, and winning the Rice a Roni. "The San Fransisco treat".

But seriously.. does seeding and who you play impact playoffs? Does it matter?

We've been getting Rice a Roni for the last 25 years! Maybe yours was beef flavored IDK.
My point is that praising Thibs for beating sub .500 teams is a very low bar. Which after 50 plus years of futility, doesnt get my pulse going.
Of course high seeding is a good thing, but we were talking about beating bad teams, not good or great teams. Thats when we should praise Thibs, when he outcoaches the contenders.
If anyone should be singled out in the coaching staff, it should be whoever worked with Sims on being more aggressive, fearless. Looked like a different player out there. Made quick decisions as well.
fortunately for us every team is vulnerable and has holes this year. People want to criticize Thibs but up here in Boston the fans are convinced Mazzula doesn't know how to sub or call time outs. Bucks just fired their coach; Nurse is in his first year with Sixers; and so on. Celts are vulnerable up front with physical play (Sixers will be a problem for them there; we can too if Mitch is back). Sixers seem thin and i'm sure any of the top teams are going to game plan to minimize Embiid or Maxey (or both). It should be fun especially knowing that we have several guys who have the mentality to be up for a good fight.

Most consider what we did to Cle last year an upset and also good coaching. Beating losing teams isnt impressive. Consistency is. It's not the winning that says good coaching, its the never losing.

Im happy were more competitive, the games are more entertaining. But what we're seeing right now is what we've seen from Thibs his entire career. A good coach who can outcoach you on any given night.
When the playoff comes, his teams underperform. In spite of having control over roster decisions at almost every stop.
If Thibs had been the victim of bad GMing, that would definitely carry some weight. But for all intents and purposes, Thibs has been the GM.
The good news is that this is the best starting unit Ive seen since the 99' season. If Thibs played a part in pushing for the OG trade, he should get some credit. But as a long time fan, beating bad teams is the floor.
GustavBahler wrote:this is basic Thibs propaganda and just not true. Can you elaborate? Which playoff series left you saying "This just isnt the guy.. we underperformed" Atl? This is sheldon Williams. Candace Parker was married to him.
Now she married to Petra. Can't say I blame her.
Candace says Brunson is "Short". She right. Jalen is 6'2 , Candace is 6'4,
Candance is on a long line of many who disregarded Jalen Brunson as a pro. He proves it on the court his worth and its growing.
As far as him carrying Knicks as a superstar to a finals appearance? Remains to be seen. She is not wrong, but she is not right either.
Maybe those teams over performed in the regular season and thus inflated expectations. To the average fan, its not gonna seem that way.
You average?

2020-21 is a perfect example of this.
The Knicks WILDLY over performed during the COVID regular season. They also limped into the 4th seed - Mitch, Noel, DRose, Elfrid were all out or on fumes by the playoffs. So essentially all your centers except 35yo Taj and all your PGs except Burks lol and IQ were kaput and then you needed to play a team that had a 1-hit wonder season and then playoffs themselves. IMHO just getting to the playoffs without play-in games was phenomenal.
The Knicks starting playoff lineup in the 4th seed was Noel/Taj, Randle, RJ (20yo), Bullock, Elfrid/DRose. 2-3 years later and Noel, Taj, Bullock, Elfrid, DRose all are toast or out of league and it's not like any of those particular guys would ever start on any other playoff team that year.
Can you imagine having enough any year to get away with Noel/Taj 35yo, Randle, RJ, Bullock, Elfrid as your starting 4th seed lololol
What the heck is any playoff coach going to do with Noel and Elfrid? Or Bullock and Taj adn Elfrid?
They would lose and lose badly.
It's like looking at iHart 3point shooting stats on his time with LAC and noticing 47% from 3! But then noticing it was 14-30 in mostly all garbage time.
