Knicks · Randle will be back soon. Will Precious get more minutes than Obi? (page 1)

VDesai @ 3/9/2024 9:35 AM
I think he will play backup 5- but after Mitch is back there may not enough minutes.
ToddTT @ 3/9/2024 9:52 AM
Yes.

His impact and versatility is what most of us hoped to see from Obi.

And I'm positive there will be fewer situations where Precious has to be yanked because we're letting a lead slip away.

Also, there's a 3% chance Thibs tries to limit minutes for players coming back from injury.

DLeethal @ 3/9/2024 10:35 AM
He's clearly got more trust than Obi. The only time Obi ever went close to the mins Precious has been playing, whether Randle was hurt or not, was when the games were 48 mins of garbage time after clinching playoff seeding.

I think he would ride Precious' minutes longer if the team is performing well, just because he won't make the type of defensive miscues that triggers Thibs to yank you. That said, Randle is gonna play a ton of mins and OG likely gets some mins at the 4. Precious is also battling OG and Hart for mins, because OG needs some 4 mins so Hart can get a heavy dose of 3 mins. It's all interconnected a little bit.

Precious defends and rebounds, he also can play C. Obi does none of those things.

but we also have OG to play backup PF now so not sure how many minutes there are for Precious really.

OG might have been playing those backup PF minutes because Precious wasnt chipping in like he is now. Would be great to see OG and Randle relatively healthy going into the playoffs. Letting Achiuwa help pick up the slack seems to me like a good way to help make that happen.

It sounds like Randle will remain at a decent risk of reinjury for the rest of the season. I'm hopeful Thibs will be capable of resisting his urges and and giving Precious more of Randle's minutes. OG is a wild card because he's going to be on the opponents best scoring threat, regardless of position. We could see him on Embiid or Tatum and his minutes won't be set.

A decision/trade will need to be made where we keep 2 of the 3 (Precious, Robinson, Hartenstein)

This season would say otherwise. We have quality depth. Injuries happen

Good depth during the season = tough rotation decisions in the playoffs. That's kind of where we are at.

I would keep them all. Robinson gets hurt on an annual basis, so we definitely need insurance.

TheMTL @ 3/9/2024 4:47 PM
Precious will get more minutes because he plays defense, can rebound, and guard multiple positions. That's Thibs wet dream right there

It may not be up to us. Rumors are that Hartenstein wants to be a starter. I don't see Robinson being happy as a backup either.

Thibs likes defense.
Obi played none.
Precious also is a very good rebounder.
Obi was not.
Some seeing why Thibs had a quick hook with Obi now.
Feel Thibs will go with guys who are getting it done.
Precious has been contributing to winning and if he continues to do so, Thibs will continue to give him the minutes. imo
I also don't think Randle will be back until the playoffs.

As for my opinion if Precious will get more minutes than Obi? See first 4 sentences above.

Nalod @ 3/10/2024 10:28 AM
Thibs coaches to win. Whom ever the head coach deems to give the team the best chance will play.
I'd assume the remainder of the season the Knicks have a plan to ramp up for the playoffs.
If executed to near perfection we compete in ECF's.

but.....other teams have plans to and its not about us failing but another succeeding. They could execute and we fall victim.
Given the ebb and flow of this season we got a preview in January of what could be, but it rests on the tender shoulder of Randle and all being healthy. This is true of every team as well!!!

Precious has been a great addition to this team. Fans appreciate good defense and we love the effort.
I'd hope Randle can make it back for 10 games to get his game condition and timing ramped up before we start either play in games or a series.

if Randle returns and despite the fact that Thibs is a total maniac, I don’t see him playing Julius his pre-injury minutes. I imagine he would also be (relatively) careful with Mitch, IHart, maybe even OG. So guessing minutes will be there despite theoretically more depth than the team Obi was on. I sure hope minutes are an issue!

Deeper the playoffs if it happens as such the deeper the minutes.
Some will blame Thibs if someone gets hurt. Fact is this is not exclusive to Thibs and knicks. Its exclusive to winning. If Knicks win a chip this year, then we can say "Great coach's need great players". Yep, and our guys will be "GREAT!". You play them. The ramp up is important.
Come playoff time you throw you best punch early and hope for a knock out. Players hold up it increased your chances. Randle dislocates the shoulder and the tear increases, he is done.
He will be playing with a partially torn Labrum. More likely it will worsen.
Small tear or big, they both need surgery to repair. His career will not be jeopardized by this. The longer he goes an the more his recovery can eat into next preseason. Take about 3 months before one can really resume full motion after surgery.
What we looking at is not so dissimilar to what Miami experienced last year. They had a lot of injuries which is why their record did not correspond with their playoff run. We have been decimated by injuries this year.
Kudos to Brunson who really should get some All NBA and MVP votes love post season. The injuries framed a bit more his stature. The MSG "MVP" chants are the appreciation of the home crowd for his contribution. He might have been a MaverKnick but he is home now.

Precious should get more minutes as he does the things Thibs wants for the position. I can also see Bogs playing more if the game calls for more offense from the position and he is hot.

Or 3 of the 4 if you include Sims. Or will Sims just go to the G-league? If so you are right. Tough call. All three has their pros and cons

foosballnick @ 3/10/2024 2:19 PM
Yes, Precious will get more minutes than Obi. If/when Tandle comes back he will still likely not be 100%. Guessing Randle is delaying surgery to try and get back and will have it in the off season.
