I still cannot believe that happened. I'm beyond angry and disappointed. And I'm not even sure who to blame the most cause it wasn't just one player. But I will say I think I'm angriest most at Mitch. He needs to be aware of the situation! The worst thing you can do is foul in that situation! WTF was he thinking! Why leave your feet to contest! You're not going to block the shot!!

Also beyond angry at Brunson for passing it to Hart to put him on the line to shoot those FTs! I love Josh Hart and appreciate what he does and how hard he plays but I do not want him shooting those. Brunson should have kept the ball and went to the line. And that turnover in OT. That is the second time in a tight spot Brunson has turnover the ball (last year game 6 in Miami).

Pissed at Thibs for not adjusting on Maxey all game. Why were we doubling Embiid who clearly didn't have it and Mitch was checking him by himself just fine? Why continue to leave Deuce all alone on an island when he clearly couldn't handle that assignment?

And SUPER pissed at the entire team for missing 8 FTs, getting off to another slow start and not putting them away multiple times throughout the game. We choked. Plain and simple and it might have cost us the season.

And i wouldn't want to change the starting lineup right now, but Deuce has to come in earlier if DDV continues to struggle. Same for Mitch. Those two have changed the games when they come in. Mitch's stupid foul not withstanding.

And as much as we can harp on the Jhart missed FT and the OG, and the Brunson one... PHI missed alot of FT's too, maxey missed 3 in a row at one point

Maxey though, that was a 4th quarter for the ages...

I think we are at the point where we can make a shift to win a game. It doesn't have to be permanent. The same way we decided to thrust Deuce in the starting lineup to shadow Curry. I think he needs to be on shadow duty next game from start to finish. See if we can get off to a better start, after 5 straight games we get crushed to start the game, and also see if DDV can get going off the bench. It's time IMO ... can't wait too long to try and fix the issues with the starting unit and we need to contain Maxey.

I have to tell you, I'd be incredible interested in what the staff thinks about this situation and why they continue with DDV.

Knicks ain't winning it all this year. There is no doubt there but you gotta play to win. But you also gotta play for build as much as you can during the playoffs? At least in this year's iteration?

They can't really throw DDV under bus, he is gaining playoff experience too, right?

I'd be interesting in hearing the back and forth.

Thibs is very cautious switching up rotation. This goes back to the Elfrid/Rose days. I believe he eventually put Rose in the starting lineup in that Atlanta series and we got smoked anyway. I think he believes in keeping guys who are thriving where they are and also giving the guys struggling a chance to figure it out.

That said I think we are nearing micromanagement time. When we were up 3-1 going home to close it out I think it was fine to keep it consistent. But we are venturing into dangerous territory. Maxey just had a historic performance and we are running out of time to let the starters try and get it right.

Wide gap between what DDV-Deuce and Elf-Rose got going on.

One thing that makes it tricky is getting Brunson his rest. I think you might even have to play Deuce 48 mins if you start him to allow him to also take Brunson's backup mins. That said he's shown he is capable of doing that.

I don't think anyone was expecting Maxey to shoot it from 45 feet. He obviously did that to avoid the foul situation. And I also think you probably live with not fouling if the guy is gonna shoot it from 45 feet.

That was the only spot Maxey could shoot it from without a contest and without a foul. Thats a phenomenal shot from long distance. You're not expecting a 40 footer to go in. That guy was locked in and didn't want to go home. 10 yrs ago you'd never expect an NBA player to think about attempting the shot he made.

Very smart from him given there was no timeout. He knew they might foul if he tried to get a closer shot. Pulled up with conviction from 45 feet when no one thought he was going to including myself.

Watching that shot again because I like pain, Thibs runs out clapping his hands like he’s clearly calling on them to foul there

Basically once the screen hit he was basically on the court screaming and clapping his hands clearly gesturing for his guys to foul

I hope those people who were lobbying to tank near end of season and not seek the 2 seed will step forward now and confess. This is why you want home court advantage

Maxey played like a stud. Personally i think we need to do better in denying him the ball. Once he gets it he's a problem. Play him tight, he blows by. Sag and he shoots.

We're all disappointed today because game was in our hands. We just need to regain our composure and go out again. Our team, and plan, is better than theirs. Their plan is maxey needs to play like superman

we are in this situation BECAUSE we didn't tank... #2 seed was the worst seed to be. CLE, MIL knew this.

Playing ORL or IND would have been a much better outcome.

I think we win this series, but this is a grueling series that is taking alot out of us.

This doesn't make sense lol

We are playing an ECF caliber series in the first round instead of wiping the floor with Indiana. This team is going through hell to win a first round series as a 2 seed when they should barely be breaking a sweat.

We just lost at home so homecourt has not been this huge advantage. And playing at the Garden Saturday for game 7 is not going to be this crazy advantage either. That game will be a toss up and Philly have will have momentum. And Philly has proven they can play and win at the Garden.

Winning that Chicago game could come back to bite us in the ass too. I don't think we'd have as much trouble with Orlando or Milwaukee but you never know. Philly, even with a less then 100% Embiid, is a far tougher team. And we're on the brink of the biggest choke and collapse in NBA history if we don't win this series.

Our plan is no different. We need Brunson to play like Superman too.

DLeethal @ 5/1/2024 11:34 AM
And in all likelihood the Knicks would've had the same HCA situation anyway, as MIL would've lost and the 3 seed Knicks would have had round 2 HCA in any scenario. That said, we have ourselves a historic type of series which is great, and winning it will add a big notch to our belts, but they are going through hell to win it.

Bro, we are not on the brink. We are up 3-2. Come on now.

DLeethal @ 5/1/2024 11:37 AM
There are many ebbs and flows to playoff series. This is sort of akin to our series vs Miami last year or the Indiana series 10 years ago. They were clearly better but we fought and made it tough en route to a game 6 loss. This series has a similar flow, and this series might also go 7. We watch these types of series all the time with other teams. The difference here is those teams were home for game 6. We gotta win on the road, which we can do.
nycericanguy @ 5/1/2024 11:38 AM
somoene said before these are really the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the east and i completely agree.

PHI was 34-8 with Embiid this season, better win % than even BOS. and when he came back late in the year even with the bum knee they went 8-0.

PHI was really the team I wanted most to avoid. not b/c we cant win but b/c thats a very tough and grueling 1st round series.

I don't know man. That's a little strong. He made a mistake. He took it like a man. He will learn from it. This is the 2nd year of this team in the playoffs. Part of the journey.
