Like I said before this series TJ always turns into a superstar vs us. While this is true why are we making it easy on him? Why would we ever go over the screen on a TJ PNR? That is not knowing your opponent. He does 95% of his damage driving to the hoop. Thibs please fix this.

Honestly, that's on Thibs. Guys need more than 4 minutes

I'm guessing if we lost you would say that was on Thibs too.

Not necessarily. It would depend on how we lost. But luckily we won. Not the prettiest but I'm taking it.

I am concerned about the 7-man rotation though. We gotta get an 8th guy working

Disagree. Right now, aside from Deuce we don't have any scorers on the bench. The rest are scrubs or non scoring bigs

I wouldn't call Precious a nonscoring big or a scrub

But what Jordan Brunson does down the stretch of playoff games is otherworldly.

I don’t know if Jordan Brunson is the best comparison.

I think he’s more Bird Brunson. How I hated Larry and the Celtics in the 80s - they always found a way to win.

Jordan dominated with pure physical ability (& an incredible will to win).

Larry couldn’t jump and was not especially fast, but he could hit ridiculous shots and always was in the right place at the right time.

Chandler @ 5/7/2024 6:23 AM
Never had a shred of doubt about the outcome

Really. Not really. Really not really

Duece -16 in 9 minutes
Precious -6 in 4.

Ive come to expect better from Deuce, he'll bounce back G2.

Not gonna lie was surprised to see Siakam taking it to OG, but OG came up with some big steals late.

Overall really bad defensive game from us. But offensively Brunson, DDV and Hart were all great. Much easier defense to score against.

all the ref blaming these days is just cringe though, even Jamal Murray with the money gesture to refs, it's the easy cop out when a team loses now. spare me.

HofstraBBall @ 5/7/2024 7:31 AM
Great win!
Great back and forth
If anyone expected anything different, you don't know playoff basketball.
Glad to see us be the ones finishing close ones with Wins.
JB proving who is the MVP. Greek out, Embid out, Jokic soon. Anyone still sorry we did not pick Haliburton as our long term PG?
Remember some arguing with me about Ragu. Like he can't play big minutes. Or can't play defense. Good memories. He was clutch again and provided that secondary big shot maker we need.
Obi had great dunks! Then watched crunch time from the bench. Don't know why Thibs does not trust him.
TJ made Deuce look like a middle schooler. And the rest of the Knicks like High schoolers.
We need someone on the bench to step up.
Let's keep protecting home court! Anyone else glad we did not tank for 3?
Clean @ 5/7/2024 7:36 AM
We should try Burks some. With Brunson playing more minutes in the playoff we should never have to see point Burks and we really need to fill in some of Bogeys scoring.

Brunson’s mid range bag in crunch time is best I’ve ever seen since Jordan and Kobe

I wouldn’t say Siakam took it to him he only had 19 pts. He had a couple flurries when he caught it deep but OG did his job containing him.

Carlisle and Hali were pretty diplomatic about the refs I was impressed. They deflected and said it’s not about the refs. Turner bitched about it.

Precious is definitely a non scoring big. Not a guy you can expect offense from. Knicks can’t expect to match this teams bench. We will find a way to win other ways.

The Precious/Mitch minutes were abysmal as expected. I’d rather play 7 than watch that again.

I’ve seen a couple places he has a shoulder injury but I agree we need to try him and just leave him off ball and see if he can hit some 3s.

DLeethal @ 5/7/2024 8:02 AM
My biggest takeaway is don’t try to run with these guys. I know it’s tempting to push but it lulls you in to a game you won’t win. We need to muddy it up like we did down the stretch.

felt like a big 19 though, he was very efficient vs OG. had like 4 or 5 buckets right on him one on one. Was surprised, maybe knowing him so well from TOR days benefits him

Our bench? Precious and Mitch don't score. Deuce needs to be better.
Indy bench is deep and they use it. Its their game. It's how they do what they do.
I don't see easy wins vs them because we'll tire.
OG has to create. We are offensively thin. Jalen can't do it all.
OG defense is the difference. Josh a menace. A wrecking ball. The "Juggernaut"!
Jules and Bojan are missed.
SVG was right. He did not say it was not a foul, he was just surprised they called it. WE got gifted.
Indy fans must be frustrated by how much Brunson got fouled.
Knicks were clutch when they needed to execute a stop and DDV got it done. McConnell is a handful.

Haliburton is a long pass first PG and when heathy with length on defense. Brunson is a playmaking scoring machine.
Team USA seems front court heavy and I'd think someone will pull up injured and he gets the call.

The "rivalry renewed" was nice TV hype but these teams have not met in years or played an important game vs. each other in 20 years.
Fuck that noise. And Reggie on Wednesday.

Glad Obi did well but we get the win. He wanted out so he can play and get paid. I won't demonize him for that. IQ was on the same track.

Refs were kind to us. Im not going to be a homer about it. We got marginal calls. I did not say "Gifts", just we got home cooking.
Knicks looked tired. Mitch was a bubblehead a few times.
That 3pt shot by iHart to close the first half might have been the difference.
Why is Halliburton so annoying to watch? His highly animated reactions to seemingly every play vs. the stoic cool that is Jalen Brunson?

Love the Win. We are one sprained ankle from not advancing. With a thin bench we are susceptible. Thibs is doing what he needs to do win.
Its who we are but there is a ceiling I'm afraid to this team in this time and place. Teams get injured, Randle is missed.

Like Philly, we were just 3 games better than Indy this season. 47 wins vs. our 50. Parity.

Yea I think overall he was contained but had some flurries. His size was pretty apparent - OG couldn't impact him when he caught it deep. OG made his huge defensive plays in the 4th like he's been known to do. Overall this was a bad game for us, we stole one, and as expected Thibs looked like he just lost during post game which is good. Better to learn from a win than a less.

We saw so many adjustments from Thibs game to game against Philly. I expect a much different game in game 2.

Maybe we keep trying Precious to see how many minutes he can float OG or Josh. But it was disastrous last night. I hope we try something a little different. Unless Deuce is banging pull up 3s that unit cannot stay afloat against TJ, Obi, Jackson bench unit. I think Precious at C off the bench would be better than Mitch though. Mitch's inability to handle the ball even for a split second against pressure created some ugly plays last night. He also looks immediately gassed trying to run with this team.

I really think Burks or Shake could eat up minutes more effectively than Precious. Precious is a better player but those guys are more equipped to help the second unit and could potentially give us a scoring punch that we need.

DLeethal @ 5/7/2024 8:46 AM
Either way, we might just need to resign to the fact that we are short on players and they rely on their deep bench. We don't have to try and match them. We can just do what we do, let Brunson outscore their backcourt by 30, dominate the offensive boards, limit turnovers, and try to control pace. Keep it close and Brunson wins it down the stretch. No need to try and match their bench or play at their pace. Their bench can outscore ours by 40 in a loss all they want.

good post Nalod

Especially agree with the bold. Haliburton hasn't been the same the all-star break. Definitely dealing with injuries. McConnell always seems to do well against the Knicks...I actually worry about him the most on this Indy team.
