I agree with this. Seems like OG is a little better as a Free Safety rather than a Defensive Tackle. His anticipating in the lanes and knowledge of where to be to take options away from the offense has been better than his ability to stop Siakam's low post moves. Achiuwa has been a little better about keeping Siakam off the block and forcing him to take Achiuwa off the dribble.

Yes OG in the final 5-6 mins a game effectively acts as a roamer. Thats where you see him attack passing lanes and play rim protector/deep safety to either help or contest. Its a massive weapon. When he missed time after his Elbow injury, we had multple end game situations where stops were hard to come by and it made it really easy to notices his value. Jalen is an offensive closer who makes clutch shots, but OG is almost every bit as effective as a defensive closer that makes impact plays - deflections/blocks/contests....fastbreak creation.

Just got an ESPN push saying Woj is reporting Knicks are pessimistic OG will improve for Game 5.

Siakim got 10 points when guarded by OG (5 buckets) and he shot 6-18 (14 points for game). Zero free throws when guarded by OG so that’s better than average defense to me from OG.

That sort of implies only one bucket on Precious - and he made a really, really tough Turnaround as I recall. Do you have his numbers against Precious?

Hack a Siakam has to be considered if he really is having a great game. Siakam has looked like Mitch on FT.

No I was focused on OG guarding him.

OGA durability is a huge turnoff long term. I hate and despise injury prone players but he is so good we won't have a choice but to give him the bag and hope he has better luck. I did notice he injured that hamstring after we had like a 5 minute break. Remember there was a coaches challenge and both coaches called a timeout. Something to take note and keep him warmer. Maybe get on a bike when we have long timeouts.
DLeethal @ 5/12/2024 2:27 PM
Thibs said OG isn’t running yet and only doing pool work. Sounds like this could be awhile.
KnickDanger @ 5/12/2024 2:31 PM
Don’t expect him to play against the Pacers and of course the hope is Knicks win without him. If the team advances and OG plays that would be amazing but no hopes getting up here.
VDesai @ 5/12/2024 4:27 PM
If he can't even run, then Im not optimistic about him coming back for a couple of weeks at least. This sucks
MS @ 5/13/2024 8:00 AM
We have to sign him unfortunately at an obscene number. If we don’t the magic or Sixers will.

He’s never going to be healthy, but when he plays we always win. He’s just one of those guys.

The NBA schedule is an absolute joke right now though. No breaks and a night into a day game. The crowd will carry the guys and hopefully he can play in game 6.

Curious if his deal includes bonus for games played.
We have seen some interesting contracts over the years. Zions contracts has clause that can give Nola relief if need be.
Basically if OG can play 65 or more games he can be paid a high wage? Seems fair. The kid plays he is worth every penny.
Issue becomes tax and apron considerations but thats that part of the Chess board that gets sticky.

Different issues. Zion's contingency is about lifestyle management. NOP wants Zion to manage his weight and off court exercise in order to keep him healthy and on the court.

OG is an effort guy that is consistently putting his body on the line for the team. I would expect his contract to be insurable, the injuries he has sustained don't really appear to be recurring. If anything they appear to be effort related - a series of ankle sprains. You make that contract contingent and you are creating a moral dilemma whether he should be maximizing effort or maximizing staying on the court. I think you give him his contract and let insurance and the trainers figure out how to keep him on the court or compensate the Knicks if he is injured.

Much as I want the ECF this year, it was always going to be challenging. Almost as valuable has been our ability to rise above challenges and compete (game 4 notwithstanding). In some ways, that's the most valuable takeaway for these players. If we had another legit scoring threat, this series would look much different. If we had a stronger overall rotation, and perhaps a stretch big...again different story.

What we have accomplished with the limited availability has been incredible. Growth for these guys that we will build upon.

We need to sign him and invest in an insurance policy for when he gets injured. That's just how it goes to get a guy with that impact for this team.

We either draft an OG clone - strong defensive wing who can hit a jump shot - or we find a veteran that can. Jae Crowder or Kelly Oubre type.

For me, the Knicks met their season expectations by getting into the second round; heck, they exceeded expectations when you count in the injuries.

Every other game after the Philly series is gravy learning experience IMHO

Knicks are not a competing conference finals team at their injury level after they lost Randle. If OG, Mitch are at full health, maybe they can give Boston fits and would have squashed Pacers.

Agreed, I'm at peace even if we lost these next two games. I will tune out the National media and spotlight will be on "Thibs running his players into the ground" of course, but we all know the deal. This team is playing with house money now and made us proud. Beating a stacked Philly team while undermanned and positioning themselves to cruise to the ECF before OG got hurt. Next year is our year. Good times to be a Knicks fan no matter what happens.

We do not have the horses to compete beyond this series anyway if we're being honest.

agreed. this IND series will hurt though, we were inches away from being up 3-0.

But we can't compete with BOS right now the way we are, the only chance of that being any kind of series would be if OG comes back and KP stays sidelined. Both of those seem unlikely right now.

100%

Add in another star...and ECF win is the new standard, and hopefully at least gutting out our first visit to Chip series.

I think we can all agree...we love what we're seeing this year...a team that competes!

3 days off before game 6. Question does OG progress to a point where he would consider giving it a go in an elimination game?

One would think he has to be running by like tommorrow for that to even be a possibility
