I keep learning more about WNBA history and apparently there is another case like Clark and Sabrina but people will tell you the players are not jealous. You have to click the tweet then the picture to read the whole thing.Edit: here is the full article https://www.espn.com/wnba/story/_/id/187...
To be fair this article was from 2017. And we don't know the backstory. I read the article and quotes after I googled Candace Parker bullied. Paints that league and it's players in very broad strokes. Not saying she didn't experience it, just that from reading it, I want more info before I draw any conclusions.
To be fair I read some of the players/former players responses to that article. Doesn't seem like a case of lesbians circling the wagons.
More info required.
I am going to guess you meant Candace Wiggens instead of Candace Parker. They are differenet players. A lot of what you said are very true. What striked me the most about this is how similar it is to what we are seeing now. Plus I would not go too far with what player/former player responses are for what happened then because they are doing the same exact thing now. No there is nothing going on when any person who clearly looks at whats happening can see something is not the same.
Listen to how she explains her situation
"People were deliberately trying to hurt me all of the time," Sounds a lot like the blindside cheapshot CC took.
"I had never been called the B-word so many times in my life than I was in my rookie season." Exactly what Chennedy yelled at CC before the cheapshot.
"I'd never been thrown to the ground so much. The message was: We want you to know we don't like you." This one is harder to prove because it can easily be just a normal hard basketball play and we can't tell intention.
To touch on the we don't like you part look at what has happened already for CC. Chennedy delivers the blindside shot and what does her team including Angel Reese do? Cheer for her like she hit a last second shot. Then that same team lied and said a Clark fan was harassing them and yelling racist stuff at them. When the video came out it was a Washington DC paparazzi guy asking them question from 10 feet away while they walked on a public street to their hotel room. He was even calling Chennedy Ms.Clark while asking her the questions. Why lie about that? To further tarnish Clarks name. 2 of Clarks team members closest friend and girlfriend were attacking Clark on social media before the last Fever game. Smiths girlfriend and Bostons best friend. All of this and we are still so early in Clarks career. If I was a WNBA fan back when this happened to Wiggins I would have probably had these stories to tell about then to but those get lost to time.
and lastly like you said the brigade of former players and commentaters to tell you what you are clearly seeing is still not happening.
Like you said its hard to tell what if what happened to Wiggins is true or not. The sad truth is details get lost over time and because she was not as popular as Clark not as many people were paying attention. However, with how similar her story is to what I am seeing now in Clarks short WNBA career the similarities are too much for me to completely ignore her claims.
Edit: Just remembered 2 more instances before Clark even got to the WNBA. The Lynx headcoach and Team USA head coach Cheryl Reeve was liking negative tweets about how annoying it will be to have Clark in the WNBA. A'ja Wilson also saying that Clarks popularity was because of race. I am a fan of A'ja as you can tell by some of my posts in this very thread but Clark has a game like Curry and scored more in the NCAA than anyone else ever. To ignore those facts and says its race is kind of crazy.
I'm on my phone so I can't bold and break this down but it is very insightful. First off, yes I meant Wiggins. I will say there is alot of smoke. Like alot alot. ALOT. So I think there is something there. I just don't know what it is. I can't remember if Wiggins came into that league with much hype. I don't think this is a white vs black thing because there are other white (and black) players getting along fine. I don't think it's a homophobe thing (this may be where the Wiggins stuff picked up. She said something about she will be herself and not change who she is in that article. Did she Mark Jackson up and that caused her struggle? Her wording was very weird.
Could it be a jealousy thing? Maybe.
If I recall correctly Jordan went through some pretty rough times where teams were trying to hurt him on his way up. Players have admitted it. I'm not comparing impact or anything but maybe it's something like that.
And don't get me started on Reese. She strikes me as a bad guy like Elmer Fudd or While E Coyote was a bad guy. She seems like a bigger try hard than Alex Rodriguez, a worse media speaker than OJ, and she wants to be like Rodman but without any of the backlash that Rodman LOVED.
As for these other women, at some point this stuff needs to die down by them shutting up. Play the game, what happens happens, say it is part of the game when everyone plays hard on the press conference and leave it at that. All this whining and drama is really going to turn people off to their product (I'm interested in the social aspect of how this plays out), but I do really wish the players\coaches would shit the fuck up.
