Welcome Mo but I hope Jonny Bryant is staying
Part of me wonders if Cheeks will work closely with Deuce on continuing to develop his drive and finish game.
For my money Mo Cheeks was one of the greatest finishers around the rim --- don't think I ever saw him miss a damn layup. Never a high end scorer or fancy player but an outstanding defender and big shot maker.
That is a full circle that makes me feel old. Hopefully he helps bring a title to NY!
Hall of fame class of 2018
Huge get for the Knicks bench! I love how this front office is always improving the team.

my first thought exactly

Did not realize he got in.
Such a low key, tough & great player
Maybe Mo can also fix some of the Deuce defensive issues that showed up in playoffs— maybe offer different approach to guarding a McConnell for example because nobody else was helping solve the riddle.
I might be in the minority here but I didn't like the Cheeks trade. I think we got hosed on that one getting rid of a very talented Rod Strickland. Honestly, I would have traded Action Jackson instead of Strickland.

I think you are with the vast majority of fans around then. Cheeks was done when he got here and Strickland on the ascent. Not the very worst but another bad Knick deal.

Omg you just put an inadvertent dampener on this for me LOL
Ehh..the coach wants him so I guess its ok. When he played for us I got the impression he didn't want to be here. He was a seasoned veteran and the Ewing Knicks were just coming into themselves.

Ouch that was a BRUTAL trade for Knicks --- basically squeezed the last bit of juice out of Cheeks and Hot Rod goes on to play what 10-12 very solid years in the league.
in 1986 at age 29 he played all 82 game and Avg 39.9 minute per game.
For Philly that is.
THibs has him in to Phuck, PHuck, Phuck the minutes police.

My first thought was “who’s leaving?” And “please not Johnny”
Read he wanted to live in NYC and Bulls were cool to let the dude move to be with family. Bulls don't change coaches frequently and billy has a few more years left on his deal with them. Maybe Billy leaves sooner than later?
Perhaps its about family mostly.
With knicks, does he travel with team? Full time coach? etc? Maybe someone is leaving.
Continuity of success is a great thing and we'd like to think Knicks could do this with Bryant. At some point.
So far Thibs has done a great job and seemingly evolved to the modern games and players.
Like Mo as a coach. I’m wondering if this is the FO sending Thibs a signal they won’t back down in negotiations

There is little wonder to your post.
Mo Cheeks was a great guard. He was tough, smart, made the right plays. As a coach he has been around but is an experienced hand to have on the bench. I absolutely love this hire. What can I say.....
I love cheeks.
