He was traded with a 1979 first round pick before season starts for Spencer Haywood. Not so bad right?
How bad? He played 7 games for seattle, waived a month into the season.
Knicks picked him back up. Played 27 games. Avg under 7min per, scored 4 pts per. avg. Suffered from Depression.
Talent was there. shame.

Although not picked high, I remember being super disappointed in Maciej Lampe who was supposed to go like #5 or something and dropped to us at #30. A STEAL!

I recall being unable to sleep with anger that night. I called out sick from work the next day and went bike riding.
Ron Artest would not have lasted in NY. We probably could have gotten good value in a trade.
But - I think for me - Kevin Knox is the worst pick because we should have known better- I remember reading how we were able to pick between one of the two Bridges - and OMG! Had we picked either, we would have done so much better- instead, whoever was picking was thinking this low motor with admittedly a really sweet looking shot was the better pick.
I always thought Knox stroke reminded me of H2O - wonder if he was the one who made the call?
Kenny Walker - god- that was so long ago, there was not nearly the infrastructure of drafting - so much more hit or miss.

Was this Pervis Short or was Pervis his brother or different guy altogether?
I certainly remember the pick but now confused over the Pervis part.

I've been upset and pissed at other picks but that one my brother and friend were all watching and just 100% certain Artest was pick and Jesus I just could not believe it. Young Ron (the crazy one) was one of my favorite players of all time.
Imagine our current Knicks squad with all-nba defensive Ron Artest added.

No Ron wouldn't have lasted but I still loved the player and come on now Frederick Weiss

I believed in Knox upside but we as fans it's hard to know the inside scoop on whether a kid loves the game or not. Kev's stroke is still pure but he's out of it mentally --- still so young.
Sky Walker was AWFUL at basketball -- that pick told me the Knicks may not have even watched him play other than a few highlight dunks. He could not dribble, pass, shoot, rebound, defend or think on the court.
Sweetney was disgusting to watch him just pork himself out of league.
Frank I had high hopes but he is as soft as they come --- very few players gave me the impression they were playing scared like Frank did.
Lots of busts to say the least but I agree with Frederic Weis as the worst - most of the picks you can kind of understand why they were made, but Weis was just clueless. And then he never even suited up. Steve Sommers on WFAN had him do a promo lead in for his show where with his French accent he seems mystified as to why he was asked to do it. We were as well, Frederic.
Reading on Weis the last decade or so he really suffered from some bad stuff and his issues back then could not be seen or actualized by the patient/Player. It was an awful pick but this guys suffered for years off the court with marriage, drinking and life. Sad story.
Ron Artest was better than thought which hurt but his issues and perhaps in NYC could have manifested itself worse? Maybe?
Yes, a good trade asset perhaps.
Frank lasted 4 years with knicks, and two still in the NBA. A knick bust perhaps especially given how DM turned out but Monk needed time and Dennis Smith JR did not pan out either. Still sucks!
"Nervous Pervis" had a really good career but not his older brother Eugene Short whom we drafted. Read he passed a few years ago at age 61 and he had some bad depression issues.
Getting forcibly tea-bagged in front of a global audience will do that to a guy.
According to Wikipedia Weis attempted suicide which led him to getting sober and he is now an analyst on French TV. I hope that is a happy ending for the guy. His draft rights were traded btw for Patrick Ewing…Jr.
and with the 32nd pick in the 1974 NBA draft, the new year knicks select Jesse Dark, guard from Virginia Commonwealth University......
