Welcome (almost) home! Big guy from Villanova PA to New York City big 'APPLE'

John Schmeelk @Schmeelk · 1h The Knicks now have the best pair of defensive wings in basketball. They are built to challenge the Celtics. Bridges also provides insurance to OG injury issues. Great duo that Thibodeau will LOVE to coach. Team chemistry will be off the charts. Great fit.

OG was a great fit for the Knicks but paying 35-40 million for an oft injured, 3rd option, would have been insane.
The picks, at the very least the first 2, would be high FRP.
Love this trade for the Knicks.
Now, if the Knicks are indeed moving on from OG, lets all hope he doesn't land in Philly
No way you let OG walk. This move was made putting all the chips on the table. Letting OG walk after the price you just paid for Mikal with down the line draft picks would be insane. You pay OG his $40mil, get the chip or 2, then trade him when Mikal & Randle extensions start to kick in.
why would you trade OG instead of just letting Randle walk who will be 32 then and declining.
I think if Brunson signs the cheaper extension now, which I think he will, we won't have any issue keeping this team together.
The only player who needs to take LESS is OG Anunoby.
Asking Brunson to take a discount just because they got an old college teammate to run with his is asinine.
Asking a two time All-NBA player and multiple All-Star to take a discount, is asinine.
We go after players like Melo because we believe all he cared about was money but for some odd reason, OG gets a pass. (if all rumors are true)
OG was a great fit for the Knicks and Bridges will be JUST AS GOOD. I think some of us are focusing too much on these draft picks. Draft picks are a crap shoot (See RJ, Quickley, Grimes, Toppin) and the chances of getting a player of Bridges caliber are slim to none.
It's not a discount. It's a favorable move - both for the Knicks and for Brunson - that moves the contract money to a different year.
This is an exchange of favors, not a discount.
We assume that Randle was doing the Knicks FO a "favor" a few years ago in hopes of improving the team and the organization returning the favor at his next extension. Now we (the fans) are ready to ship him off.
Point is, we're asking/expecting the players to forgo millions in hopes that the organization is going to take care of them at the next go around but it not guaranteed. What if Brunson has a terrible injury that takes him out for the season. Are we still expecting the Knicks to do him a solid and max him out?
I don't know man...
This!
FYI for anyone thinking all our past picks including IQ were misses, IQ fit real well on this team. Let’s see how Mikal fits before we give this move thumbs up. Giving up that many draft picks is reserved for a difference maker. Not for a player that may not contribute/fit as well as one of the players some claim were a miss.

LOL.....ever base has these guys. We got them too. We got some OG haters... He makes a good point about Bridges being an A1 Alpha leader. He is not. Never was in fact. Nets might have sold it but he is not that kind of player. Neither is OG. These are solid winning type players that will accentuate JB and Randle and propel them and the team to higher ground. Perfect? Not likely. Issues? There will be bumps. Mika pts will drop. JB will also. Goodness I hope so! Lower usage. Randle? 1st year under Thibs he as like the only option! Now, we got 4 guys that can light it up if need be and a defense that will snuff out the other team! What's left? iHart!!!!
If there is a way, our FO is plotting and has been.

One of the things in favor of Bridges/OG vs DM is that DM is not changing for anyone. Has earned right to be main piece. Therefore Bridges and OG are a better part of a “Team” male-up that allows JB to ascend. Randle already showed he is okay with that as well.
Cost? Is what it is. Have 2 good players. Was the cost too big? Yet to be seen. True Knick fans now will shift to rooting hard for what we have and focus less on IF it was the right move. However, all true Knick fans will be the first to let everyone know if it does not work and we get put in a bad position. Like me. I am on the record saying Bridges was not worth all the assets. OGs deal was the product of the circumstances. It was either lose him or overpay. We had to keep him.

DM is a little bit redundant when we already have a volume shooting/scoring PG. Mikal and OG are forwards

And what of Jules? Is he a forward? Your post calling out redundancy to enhance your self esteem pretty much was redundant itself. Dm was bought up to demonstrate what Leon did in the value proposition of what he paid for OG and Mikal. So if OG and Mikal as you brilliantly point out are forwards, then who sits? Jules? We have three forwards? Jules is not a 5. Its kind of known Mikal will play the 2.

I mean he didn't ask to get traded to Brooklyn nor did he sign as a FA. Nor is he making max money that would require him to be a superstar. He showed a few months of high end shot creation ability with Suns and Nets given the Durant situation made a move hoping to strike gold on him being that.
