For me, that's just past the point of bad luck and quickly into the territory of colossal failure.

This is the kind of thing that sets teams back by years IMHO. Invest heavily in draft; relationships with players, other FO's; and development plans within your team dynamic. Those are the things that are not salary cap cost prohibitive and do it wisely.

The Knox pick was driven by the FO wanting to keep Fizdale happy. He was a hot commodity at the time. A young coach who was courted by several teams, and chose the Knicks.

Tarrytown is now Fort Knox because Fizdale fell in love with his three-on-three workout versus Miles Bridges in an empty Westchester gym 15 days ago. Fizdale lobbied brass to overlook Mikal Bridges’ ability in the clutch and leadership on the biggest stages the past three seasons on two NCAA-title-winning title teams

We are Knicks. We never take the straight path

Until Leon got here!

This is Phoenix Mikal. This guy is two way player extraordinaire. He’s decisive. Smooth. LONG strides. A smooth shot. Guy just loves to play ball. His off ball motion creates most of his shots. Whether cutting diagonal to the basket or moving to the corner.

Point is, he needs to use his feet and not his hands to get out of the slump. He’ll get there, cause he is a rockstar.

Love this guy.

I am there with you.

He is feeling the pressure. And the Knicks feeling things out. It'll smoother over by end of Jan.

VDesai @ 11/27/2024 10:15 AM
Only reason I'm skeptical is because his fundamentals are off. He is rushing all his shots, he's off balance, he's not set. When players tinker with their mechanics it becomes more mental than physical. Anyone who watched Chuck Knoblauch knows where this can go.

I'm look at this list while noting that Miami had the picks right beofre both Maxey and Jared McCain.

Sometimes the gods smile down on you, and sometimes you get bird shit landing on your head.

One year later, what do we think of this guy?
I dunno, I'm still not sold.

Meh.

Is he a legit third option on a championship team?

Depends. Did they run layup lines at halftime?

Been few weeks, anything new happen?

Im thinking of the Boston series and his defensive game ending plays.
We got to the ECF's.
And yes, he played too many minutes, and his role inconsistent on offense.
Same for OG.
Might even add KAT in there. Just a lack of Cohesiveness. All evident by the lack of good record vs. elite teams in regular season.
No guarantees but we will pay him and my hope is the Knicks demonstrated a high commitment by eating Thibs 30mil and getting Mike Brown.
My hope that he puts this roster in a better position to succeed going forward.
Leon paid Thibs and it must have killed him to have fired his buddy. He did a good job, just did not have the answers to unlocking the next level for a really talented roster.

The offense was inconsistent, but we got another hound on defense and ironman to boot. Availability seems like a rare commodity in today's NBA. Will see what the Brown offense looks like, but I expect Mikal to be more involved.

Meanwhile, for context, we're coming off a year where 2 of our top 4 guys were in their first year (or 3 of the top 4 in the first 1.5 years) with the team, learning to play together, and despite the offensive inconsistencies, gave us our best year, best post season in over 2 decades. Bummed we never got the complete Nova Knicks, but I'm still rolling with Mikal, and expecting a better year 2.

Those first 2 games in Boston are going to be cemented in Knicks lore.

Fuck them picks.

After watching Mikal for a season, he is no ironman.

He could play 2000 consecutive games, I would not give him that title.

EwingsGlass @ 7/23/2025 10:19 PM
Bridges and OG are elite. I hope Brown initiates his .5 sec rule and gets these guys more looks.

Plenty of games he looked gassed at the end - Coach Brown going to have to figure usage this year. But man gave us 100 games counting the post season at over 37mpg. That's an iron man in my book.

Im not worried about his endurance, but draw a fucking foul. You can't be a viable 3rd option or an initiator of offense if you don't put enough pressure on the defense.

I feel like we'd see him more aggressive on ball if he wasn't worried about keeping himself fresh enough to play 40.

Is Mikal even the 3rd option? OG and he were 3rd optin? Mikal was like 5th on the Knicks for Usage.

I view Mikal as an outlet guy, not an initiator of offense. The ball runs through Brunson and then KAT and then the backup PG. Mikal and OG and everyone else is behind them insofar as initiator of offense IMO. I just don't think that is Mikal's role or forte, no matter what he was doing in Brooklyn.

Mikal and OG can be aggressive on the ball if they have Mitch behind them. No one knows what KAT is doing and there is heavy coordination that needs to happen.

fishmike @ 7/24/2025 11:54 AM
saw enough clutch shooting and physical play in the post season to 100% want to ride with this guy. He does a ton of things well and a few things are elite. If we can wrap him up with the OG contract its a win. We would basically have OG/Bridges/Brunson wrapped up for the cost of 2 supermax guys or 1 and someone like KAT.

Really good crunch time player. Keeper

I remember when Bridges was drafted. The announcers were talking about what a nice story, his Aunt works in the FO and then ten minutes later BAM traded to Phoenix

One of the dumber trades out there. Total fail

The trade basically was Zaire Williams and the pick that eventually became Tre Mann.
Mikal would have been great for Sixers and the mom story was awesome.
Bryan Colangelo was the GM in June of 2018 but he was perhaps fired for the phone thing that same month.
Tough to say who was in charge when the trade went down. Colangelo previous year got cute with the Markel Fultz trade. Thats when they traded up with Boston who took Tatum.

The whole thing was debacle. Recall Philly kept tanking and reloading with Hinkie and the process. Then league stepped in and they got the Colangelo's to fix things.
Bryan had done a pretty good job in Toronto but lost his mind in Philly.

Serious overpay - and makes you wonder what we could have added if we still had those picks. Both big trades last offseason kind of sucked.
