Knicks · OG is back, but at what cost? (page 4)

He’s such a perfect Knicks dork leader

Good way to look at the numbers

Why do you hate the deal? We were going to be capped out for years to come anyway. All those team friendly deals are nearing the end. Which is why we had to use our picks sooner than later. The later we waited the more restrictions would be on the trade because of being over the aprons.

I am struggling to see how we are hard capped. If you add in Hart, 5M for 2 FRP’s, 5M for guaranteed end of the bench scrubs how are we over the apron? What am I missing? Is it the cap holds for Burks and Precious?

Cause it's $212.5M on a guy who will never make an All-Star team and the chances of him playing 50% of playoff games are 50/50 at best. It's too risky but I get it. We had no choice.

Brunson 25m / Deuce 5m = 30m
Bridges 23m / DDV 12m = 35m
OG 37m / Hart 18m = 55m
Randle 29m
IHart 16m / MRob 14m = 30m

179m (hard cap) before minimum roster holds with 6 more roster spots to fill (3 minimum)

I think you get hard capped if you execute certain types of transactions or maneuvers when you are over cap.

Like, you use your $12m MLE or trade for more money coming in than going out. I really don’t have better clarity

26-5

Exacly but how many games did he miss? His lack of durability cost us a trip to the ECF and it could happen again.

This gets filed under life’s hard wear a helmet. You overstate that. Anyone playing with his intensity will have injuries.

This is right. Both in concept and pretty much everyone’s lack of clarity. But the Bridges trade needs to get expanded to prevent us getting hard capped. It’s why another trade is likely imminent.

I foresee a OG DPOY.

Who cares if he never makes an all star game? He fits this team perfectly. our record with him proves that. The option is to pay him or lose him for nothing. Meaning we traded Quick and RJ for nothing. Your issue with his contract is not making sense to me. The only person who should care is Dolan. Like I said we were going to be capped out anyway because extentions are coming.

Yeah I hate the all star game narrative. Anyone who is familiar with his game knows he is an all star caliber type player.

Rather pay him than Paul George.

Yeah, this isn't a hire in a vacuum. All the Nova guys are now bought into Thibs system, and that was clear to Bridges when he joined. OG will play the way the team needs him to play and the way Thibs envisions him to play. So you have 5 players who will play the Thibs way. And except for Brunson, you could go on short periods losing one of them to injury and staying in the hunt, which is what the Celtics could do even if they lost KP for periods. If Randle is really bought in as well, this is a legit team that will perform consistently through the season. No more 5 game losing streaks that are a sign of volatility. Given how we've lived with a bad knicks team made out of parts that could fall out anytime due to age or just incompatibility, I'll take this.

Right now we are in the top 3-4 teams category. Losing Randle drops is back unless he’s replaced with a high caliber player IMO

. The question with Randle is not his play which had been really good but really how he fits. I like Randle but I felt we played even better when he went down.

You got memory loss or something? Weren't we like 10-1 with Brunson/OG/Randle

Agreed. Why do ppl get allstars? To win games. We won a historic amount of games post-trade with OG. Seems like that's a guy I would pay. 26-5 speaks for itself.

TheMTL @ 6/26/2024 9:25 PM
OG took no discounts lol. But when you think about it, we are complaining about an extra 5m per year like it really matters. We are capped anyway. So I can go to sleep happy we kept OG.
Panos @ 6/26/2024 9:25 PM
I think I'm going to puke.
This is an Allan Houston contract.
