He has that tornado rotation on his shot. Big Mitch gonna love that.

In my head
Spurs Get Mitchell Robinson Rights to Pacome Dadiet (feel like Spurs want to give Wemby a French teammate and missed out in the early picks)
Knicks get Charles Bassey? Apron space & Bridge Trade balanced to up 2nd Apron (approx 10m in cap space and 10m in apron space. This gives us iHart and Achiuwa back) TWolves '31 pick.
I only think this because the Dadiet pick feels out of character for the Knicks. I would have expected them to take Mogbo before they took Dadiet. The Spurs trade to Twolves didn't make much sense either - felt like an incomplete trade. We know the Knicks need to create cap space. TWolves roster is great, but also makes no sense. It's an economic dystopia. I have no solution for this.

Start with this premise: No player the Knicks draft is going to play unless there is a highly unusual situation.

That too, but it makes the proposition more likely, not less?
Teams that can help us by absorbing Mitch (or any other player):
Detroit Pistons: $64 million Philadelphia 76ers: $55 million Orlando Magic: $49 million Utah Jazz: $38 million Oklahoma City Thunder: $35 million San Antonio Spurs: $21 million Maybe Charlotte.
If it was gonna be OKC, I think they would have done it already in last night's trade. Still a large possibility. Utah could but that's like your last resort. Arm and a leg. Philly. I would want Mitch out of the East. Magic. Maybe? Doesn't really feel like a fit for Orl. Spurs? I mean, a body to put next to Wemby? Feels like the perfect match for them. They have Zach Collins at 17m per. So its not perfect. But imo Robinson > Collins on a better contract.

Oh, I guess you are touching on several topics.
I don't think the Knicks would play any draftee, so Mogbo over Dadiet is a wash and obviously the Knicks like Dadiet as a prospect or trade resource. Feels like the later to me but who knows.
Moving Mitch is a different story. You don't need a team with cap space, you need a team with lower salary coming back in so that it is enough $$ to then sign iHart to the contract he wants while maneuvering around the aprons.

big athletic wing with scoring chops we can afford to develop. I like it. Start rebuilding the pipeline today

1) The not playing rookies comment is too dismissive of the point. I don't think Dadiet really matches the general archtype the Knicks seem to utilize under Thibs. I mean, there are counterpoints. Josh Hart is not the archtype. But Dadiet doesn't seem to have the physicality the Knicks generally have. As Bogs 2.0, I kind of see it. But to have drafted him without a workout, I am a little skeptical.
2) I don't think the math favors your argument, but I am not certain. The team receiving from their perspective has to be able to accept about 4mm more than they give back to us. Any team under the over the cap but under the Apron would be trading our problem (hardcapping at the apron) for their problem (hardcapping at the apron) by taking on more than they send out. Now, as more trades occur, more opportunities will arise. But I think we need more than 4mm of space overall as well to have a functioning basketball team. So, I do think there are a limited number of teams that can help us out. Maybe more than I imply by listing cap space teams, but every other team is going to be working in the penalty.

I had made a mistake previously. I meant to say that I think the Knicks really like Dadiet as a prospect. You like prospects in this category of drafting for what they will be 3-5 years from now, not how well they fit what may or may not be liking to Thibs. For me, this is probably literally the first draft of the Knicks that they could really make like this over the course of the last 4 years. He is 6'9" with a smooth looking shot and he moves pretty darn well. He lacks strength, polish, defense.... pretty much like every other 18yo. They fill out and they develop. And teams draft guys they don't work out cause they scout them and may actually have them in a gym in France and that doesn't count as having him in last week but who cares about that?
The math of $4m is particular to the iHart situation and if they can make a max offer (max Knicks offer) to him. After that, you don't worry cause you have all your core pieces and have made it to the point you are comfortable with the first/second apron situations. After that, it's a different story.

Watching Dadiet highlights now. I am beginning to like the pick. Let's be serious though. I like every pick my Knicks make.
His mid range game is very good.

Big smile when talking about meeting and speaking wit Thibs.
He's clearly a high ceiling long term prospect. Here's to him breaking the French curse.
JesseDark@ 6/27/2024 3:12 PM
So the plan is that once the NovaKnicks have run their course the plan is the FrenchKnicks. He is just the first step in this plan. He will suceeed where Fred Weis and Frank Nitkilana have failed.

That makes me feel better. I saw a report saying he did not work out for the Knicks and took it as gospel. I am happy for this kid. I definitely go after the more physically gifted players and hope they develop skills than skill/fundamentals players and hope they develop physically. Its a different mindset I think. I think you need both to truly excel in the league. At 18, he's got a lot of runway.

Well atleast summer league just got interesting.

Smart to get some projects who might pay dividends a few years into this experiment. This core rotation is pretty much set in stone at least for 2 years.
