I didn’t see Kolek in college.

Defense stats are near impossible to report anything without an eye test because the stats are so tied to the team’s defensive scheme.

For example, Fournier had really high steals. But it’s because he stunted on defense for the steal a lot like a bull running at a matador. So, you would look at Fournier and say - 1.8 steals, that’s really good defense! But in reality he overreached and his guy blew past him.

Or other stats are dFG, which is the opponent’s field goal percentage when the player is within 3 feet. I mean, if you back 4 feet off it doesn’t get charged against you? So, when his guy beats him down the floor by a lot on a fast break leading to a wide open layup, that doesn’t affect his dFG%?

Myles Turner led the league in blocks leading to a DPOY. That year, the defensive scheme was to funnel the ball handler into the center of the floor where Turner was waiting. Was he a better shot blocker than the rest of the league or part of a defensive set that provided many more opportunities?

Plus Minus is about the team more than the player. We isolate the player when other players step off the court. OG and Bridges should up the plus minus for the entire team. Bad offense (long rebounds and turnovers) will affect “defense” like a quarterback giving up an interception on his own 20.

In the absence of tape, all I can say is that he wasn’t a liability on defense for Marquette. Nothing stands out. His team still had a better defensive plus minus with him on the floor. But would really have to see tape to say anything different.

Based solely on biometrics and agility tests at the combine, I’d expect him to struggle to stay in front of faster PGs. I’d expect him to have trouble guarding larger PGs. Same things I would say about Brunson. I’d expect him to read the angles in defense well and position himself to block passing lanes well. Guys who pass well tend to see the same angles on defense. Pretty much have to see, though I think he will be fine if they don’t ask him to do too much.

I think you see a gamer though. A guy with grit. I think he will be good sooner rather than later.

I'd almost guarantee it!
This year? Hell yeah

When has a Euro pick ever worked out for the Knicks. Should just pick Americans

Make Knicks Great Again It's a joke; don't shoot me

Gallinari was a good player, and would've been an excellent one without the injuries.
Porzingis is a superior player...Injuries and personality issues with the Knicks were his problem.

Frank, who I championed, was a wimpy disaster, of course.

Dadiet is not Frank. He is also 18, while Kolek is 23, so there's that. He showed some defensive chops the other day. His offense will be fine, but if he can play D, he's going to be a good one, IMO

I was half watching the other day while kids were going nuts but Kolek looked legit, Hukporti looked pretty good and saw him have a few nice finishes, looked composed under the basket, and the French kid looked like Kevin Knox in a bad way.

Didn't we have a Ukrainian shooter a few years ago whose wingspan was like 6'6" and he was 6"7" tall, how does a negative wingspan happen ???

You have some guys with craniums disproportionate to the rest of their body. So you might have a guys measure out 6'4, but he should really 5'11".Also you have dudes with really narrow backs and shoulders that throw off their wingspans. Genetics be crazy.

This all reminds me of the physical specs QBs are supposed to have, yet many of the most successful QBs of recent times haven't measured up to those perfect QB specs.

Give me winners who measure up to the moment, not some Platonic ideal measurement that has nothing to do with how they perform in competition.

Frank Kaminsky was like 1 big torso.

Good point on KP. I wasn't thinking about him. Bummer that didn't work out.

My rant was more Rokas than Dadiet. I don't have an opinion about the latter yet.

I wonder if that is what Phil Jackson was thinking back in 2014 when he drafted Cleanthony Early over Nikola Jokic? Still wondering how the hell did he miss out on him. If there was ever a “triangle” center it would be him. If he had drafted him and then drafted KP in 2015, the triangle might actually have worked his Jokic’s “point center” skills.

nice energy to start the game!
franco12 @ 7/16/2024 4:40 PM
Washington seems the standout player for us! And Kolek seems legit!
martin @ 7/16/2024 4:40 PM
Oh must turn on
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:41 PM
Kolek diming already.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:42 PM
I love how he led Toppin into driving to the hop instead of shooting a 3 with that ast. Amazing.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:46 PM
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:50 PM
Toppin keeping his head up while on that break. Not bad for a big. He made a nice pass to.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:52 PM

This was the pass where instead of throwing the ball to Toppin he threw it short to force him to drive.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:53 PM
Bro, Toppin is looking real nice.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 4:56 PM
Rokas looking much better.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 5:04 PM
They are actually running the Thibs DHOs this game.
Clean @ 7/16/2024 5:05 PM
Kolek always finds the open person.
