Knicks · Target: Goga Bitadze (page 4)

But I feel that Magic signed Bitadzke in order to hold him for us, and we will make a deal when he becomes eligible for trade. Sims & Diop make $5.6mil, and Knicks have the RJ/IQ trade exception $5.24mil until Dec 29th. And a $3.8mil trade exception from the Malachi Flynn trade that expires Feb 9th.

At the time of signing. The knicks couldn't afford to sign Goga for the $7.7mil that he signed for. They may have all come to the agreement that Magic sign him for that agreeable price. Hold him for the Knicks while the Knicks make cap moves to put themselves in position to make a deal cap wise while avoiding apron. Then when Goga becomes eligible for a deal. Magic will receive compensation for him over losing him in FA for nothing, probably Sims, Diop & 2 protected 2nds or so. Knicks get Goga at a IHart initial price range but with 3 year bird rights contract.

I don't see the logic outside of looking to move one of their bigs in putting the amount of money they did toward the Center position. Especially in today's salary cap climate.

Good take!

I like this.

Orlando: Issac Mo Wagner C, Wendell Carter C, Goga C, PF/C, Banchero PF, Franz Wagner SF/PF. That's a lot of front court.

Goga's first year is $9M and it is descending for 3 years with total $25M.

Knicks would need to trade Precious and extra to get to $9M? Not sure what else Orlando would want.

Paolo can also slide to C position for spot mins.
Thought I saw Goga at $7.7mil on spotrac, but your right its $9mil. Diop & Sims also make $4.7mil not $5.6mil. Must of been tired when writing this lol.

But with that, the timeline to trade FAs is Dec 15th and Knicks would have a $5.6mil trade exception to cover the difference.

Not sure I understand. You can acquire a player into a TPE, obviously Goga would not fit into the one the Knicks have. Knicks are now hard capped at second apron, I legit don't know if they can take more salary in then they can trade out. So, maybe Precious + whatever > Goga $9M salary?

Maybe I have the wrong understanding of the TPE. But doesn't TPE allow you to avoid having to match salaries? Meaning if you packaged Sims & Diop for Goga, exercising the TPE would allow you to cover the difference?

Or are you saying you can only trade the $5.6mil TPE straight up for a player?

Fuck Goga and the horse he rode on. He hurt Gilas Pilipinas slim chances of playing in the Paris Olympics by performing a cross body slam on Kai Sotto.

I'm not sure on this, but I believe it would have to be two separate trades. One trade for a player to fit into the TPE and another trade for a player to fit into cap space, MLE another TPE etc. You can't combine TPEs.

When a trade is made, a player can be traded into cap space, into a TPE, or for another player or players that meet the 125% mark (give or take).

So only a player making $5.6m or less can be traded into this particular TPE (the $5.6m is just the difference between incoming/outgoing from another trade).
