Knicks · Just bring back Achiuwa (7/30 update: he is back) (page 2)

Knixkik wrote:If he was a regular UFA that didn’t play here last year, he would be talked about a lot more as a top backup option on the market. He is limited, but was fine all year as a rebounder and weak side shot blocker. He is switchable defensively and gave us some really solid games. I say bring him back to backup Mitch , Sims as third string, and Hukporti on a 2-way as a developmental big. Once we get into the next trade cycle between December and February we can assess where the center position stands and there will be plenty of other options on the market. I’m down for other options like Bitadze, trade for Isaiah jackson etc, but it just seems like Achiuwa is just as good as most of the options out there. Just a thought.
Agree with you..I'd love to see 👀 Precious A. Brought back to Knickerbockers if he'd like to return.

I posted in another forum that advanced stat wise there are a lot of similarities between Precious and Hartenstein. Nearly identical blocks and offensive rebound % are the big two. Isiah has that great floater but Precious shoots 31% on corner 3's which Hartenstein doesn't take. Earlier this season in Toronto Precious averaged a slightly higher assist % than IHart.
Long story short, if the Knicks are looking to replace IHarts production, very few players have a better profile than Precious. Another big advantage is he seems much more mobile and switchable than IHart. Bench lineups of Precious Randle OG Bridges and Josh can switch across all 5 positions.
For Embiid Lopez and KP Knicks will need to rely on Robinson, but that's always been the case.

Achiuwa can come back, but please, bring someone else with him.

Yes they eventually need someone else, but maybe it just doesn’t have to be at the beginning of the season. My assumption is they will roster 3 centers, Hukporti on a 2-way as a 4th, and play some small ball about 10-15 mins per game and see how it goes.

Achiuwa and a minimum reserve and I’m good
VDesai@ 7/2/2024 8:05 AM
I think its a no brainer now to bring back Achiuwa. He is the only guy we can pay over $5mm and beyond Wiseman and Wagner, he is the only one worth over $5mm. How the heck can we get him to hit Corner 3s? Then he becomes the Naz Reid model of backups. His first year in Toronto he was a credible threat. Almost 36%. Has not been able to replicate that.
I think behind him you have a Theis or a Zeller at a vet min.

Bring back Chewy on a 2yr deal with 2nd year being a player option. He’s from NYC, and we keep another player from the Barrett/Quickly trade. Sims & Randle can also handle the rest of the center mins behind Mitch. Would also not mind bringing in Saddiq Bey to provide depth at forward.
If anything we can always pick up someone at trade deadline.

I'll bring back Precious at this point. He knows the system, has good chemistry, played his behind off in Feb, and had a few moments in the playoffs.
He's our best option

A totally friendly chat?

Gotta give Precious the Ralph Wiggum treatment. I choo choo choose Achiuwa
EwingsGlass@ 7/2/2024 4:59 PM
I mean, Achiuwa would be the backup PF, right? Could handle the C in a pinch, but not as his day to day role?

He is playing in Taiwan right currently. If it’s that team’s offseason we could probably bring him here on a 10-day deal and he’d be serviceable in case of emergency

I don't think it takes much but Knicks definitely gotta sweet talk him. Players are sensitive these days and Precious has been treated as last option.
He's worth 5-10m in my opinion
VDesai@ 7/4/2024 2:25 PM
Now that we avoided the 1st apron hard cap i think we can sign him with bird rights. I think 2/16 or 2/18 makes sense for him.
We also have the 5mm MLE for another player if we want.
VDesai@ 7/4/2024 2:27 PM
They are about 16.9mm under the 2nd apron so they should be able to offer a decent deal to Precious.
ESOMKnicks@ 7/4/2024 2:41 PM
Bringing back Precious is necessary, but not sufficient. We still need a quality bench center to have a decent rotation at center and PF. With Mitch and Randle being often injured, we cannot have only 4 big guys.
VDesai@ 7/6/2024 3:50 PM
A little surprised he hasnt signed anywhere yet
ToddTT@ 7/6/2024 4:09 PM
Get ‘er done.

What could be taking so long?

Does signing Precious affect what they can offer another player atm? If so, that would be my guess.
