Knicks · 9 man rotation... looking pretty good (page 3)

I think you have to wait and see how he comes back from the shoulder injury. This could put Randle in a shit mood cuz he moody
Jules is gonna be Jules and that's just fine
Why does everyone ignore that Julius has been historically (all-time) bad in 2 playoff performances.
I believe the stat floating around recently is - Over the past 40 years 573 players have played over 15 playoff games - of those 573 players Julius Randle is the ONLY player to shoot below 35% from the floor and below 30% from 3.
Julius being Julius = Hard to trust the man in the playoffs
This year will tell all. Hoping he can get to the playoffs injury free, and that he can show out. If he stinks it up again, its going to be hard to ignore. But I don't think so. I think with this supporting staff, he's going to do fine.
Jules has run into trouble in the past when he's tried to play heroball. With a stacked squad, and time, the hope is that he wont feel the need to try to win a playoff game almost singlehandedly.
Randle is in a contract year. He has an opt out at the end of the season. He is extension eligible so let's hope this doesn't become a distraction. It is the last piece of business for the off season

Everyone has a chance to ask themselves if the data is worthwhile to look at.
Elfrid/Rose, Bullock, RJ, Randle, Taj35yo/Noel does not provide that for me.
But you ignore his 2nd playoff series Martin and while folks blaming his ankle - I remember him throwing down running massive dunks in same series (ankle no issue). I also remember Brunson trying to will us to victory in last game against Heat while Julius completely hid in the corner.
Also - I see many pointing to our 12-1 streak post OG with Julius --- so that is good enough sample size but 2 playoff series where stuff actually counts isn't enough? Point blank Julius is super talented - he's also a flake who will rocket passes into the crowd, toss up bricks, hold the ball and take plays off on D.
All I'm saying - if there is a legit trade out there to land a legit skilled and hard working Julius replacement this front office better be monitoring.
Hate to see us toss this season away if Julius goes into tank mode again -- particularly with post shoulder injury which will be the new ankle and supporting cast excuse if he does.

Seriously - Julius going back at fans has ZERO impact on me - could care less about that. It's the effort, sulking, disengagement and above all the shooting %s to date.
I've made many posts praising Julius but I can't close my eyes to the reality of his past playoff performances and his lackluster effort on many occasions.
There is NO WAY his teammates don't see that stuff and NO WAY guys like Brunson/Hart approve of it or like it -- regardless of what they say publicly.

For Randle, I see high usage, low efficiency basketball. His stats comp well to Kyle Kuzma. And some folks here are Kuzma fans. But Randle has a certain gravity to him that sucks both the ball and his defenders toward him and that can be valuable if the ball has enough velocity to escape his gravity. So, I have a hope that with the spacing provided by our shooters that he can become Triple Double Randle. Basically, a bigger version of Josh Hart on the court.
I see Brunson's team. Bridges, DDV, Hart. These guys are Brunson's guys. Not sure if OG is a Brunson guy or just a baller. I don't know if Randle is a Brunson guy or just a baller.
I do know that usage is a scarce resource and Randle at 29% usage means that our more efficient players are not taking their more efficient shots.
I think Randle can be a boss. I see him as the fulcrum of the offense in the paint. But I would want him to pass the ball to Brunson, DDV, Mikal, OG if they have an open look before deciding to do his thing in the paint. And to set screens. And move off ball to pull the big away from the play. And to slip to the corner when know one is looking for an open 3 attempt.
And I don't know if it will work. But I am willing to try. It could be amazing.

When you put players and teams into the roles and positions they need to be in, they are more likely to succeed. This is not a hard concept to me.
Randle's role is not 1a. Neither is Mikal's. Mikal is not a bad playoff performer, in fact, in the right role, he is flat out fantastic. I don't hold it against Mikal that he can't even get his team to the playoffs, no less single-handedly getting his team to the 4th seed in a Pandemic year.
Brunson's best role is not behind Doncic, and I don't hold it against him that he wasn't a full time starter and PG in Dallas; it wasn't his role, it's was Doncic's.
I don't hold it against Brunson that he sucked so bad in the 2020 playoffs only scoring 8ppg on 16 minutes while Randle equally sucked against Atlanta in those same playoffs. Cause who cares, it's really not relevant information.

I thought your response naming all the players from his 1st series was ignoring his 2023 performance with a completely different group.
Take a look at Tommy Beer new article on Randle —- it’s really good again IMO because it touches on both sides of Julius and why he’s is not fully accepted as 3X all-star, also goes through contract implications.

Randle was substantially injured before the second playoffs in 2023. I do not find grading player while in that mode enlightening.
Why would you assume my lack of specific comment noteworthy?
Randle has played poorly in both playoffs and has a lot to prove.
Luckily, for me, I don't think he has had even an adequate chance to prove himself in the playoffs. Like a ton of other all stars and players.

Good find, was by no means a hit piece. Made sure to point out the positives, that even big time Randle fans might not know.
For the past few seasons the 20/10/5 guys have been Randle, Jokic, Embiid, and Giannis. I hope Thibs gives it a try.
