For Cleveland, they smooth out the Jarrett-Mobley center position overlap and get a bonafide 3rd scorer. Cleveland won’t hesitate to give Randle his max cause that’s how they keep him and Donovan long term.
Knicks get a 23yo player who is signed for 6 years and makes their cap situation very good. The can play Mobley at PF and C when Robinson sits. You already have lots of PFs in Precious and Sims that fit with Mobley well?
Mobley has a starting semblance of a 3point shot?
Pure Brock Aller trade.
It actually does thinking about it. Though would like to see Randle with this squad this coming season. And fill his scoring prowess is still needed here. Mobley's ability to play PF/C does make the roster cleaner. His defense along with the other pieces would be devastating for opponents.
Does this work with Mobley having a PPP provision?

Oh yes, you right, salaries not close. Missed that.
If we can get the salaries to line up I think it's a good trade that would benefit both sides.
why help Cle? This comes back to haunt us.
Despite Randle's post season struggles in the 2.5 series he's played in one thing he DID do was utterly shut down and break the spirit of Evan Mobley.
Randle's our guy. Betcha he takes a Brunson type discount to stay and finish this

I think J Allen for Randle is more likely to be in consideration for Cleveland. They don’t move Mobley for anything realistic. But that being said I don’t see the Knicks accepting Allen for Randle.
I think Mobley has a lot more trade value than Randle. He's younger, cheaper and with perceived upside.
Randle is the better player now. He stretches the floor at least as much if not more than Mobley. It helps round up our center problem but create another at the 4 spot. Who would replace Randle when OG is out on injuries?
And wouldn't we have the same problem Cleveland has with Mobley and Mitch on the floor?
We need to see how this group performs with Randle. We will be light on interior scoring if we get rid of him for a guy who can't score reliably. Right now, this team might have no glaring holes and might be a bonafide contender. You trade Randle for Mobley and you might have a glaring hole in terms of bigs who can score inside, like Cleveland currently does.
I don't know
I will say I did buy a Mobley rookie card specifically because of this thread though
I know everyone poops on PER but I still like to quickly analyze a player. And Mobley has had an impressive PER jump each season. There is some potential here for him to turn into a freaking beast... at least that's what the receipts say

PER across different seasons for the same player is more interesting than across players and seasons. It it is a little too correlated to usage in my opinion, so you will see high usage, low efficiency players get a bump in their PER. Notably guys like Mitch Robinson also get a bump despite low shot usage because they only dunk. Very efficient.
For Mobley, this speaks tons about his actual improvement. His PER has increased without any significant change to his usage (roughly 20%), meaning he is doing more with the same opportunity with the ball - the same touches. And has done so every year.
I stated earlier that a Randle/Mobley trade was probably impossible without some crazy work to get around Mobley's PPP. I skipped the merits. I encourage people to compare Mobley's PER/Usage to Randle's PER/Usage and then look at Brunson's PER/Usage. Then look at Jordan Poole. Then look at Trae Young. I think this is the way to use PER. Is this player getting better or just taking more shots?
We definitely lose toughness in this hypothetical. I'd rather keep that identity intact. Also feels like the next 2-3 seasons are our best window with this squad. Would rather keep the better player and capitalize on that than hoping the younger guy catches up.
As much as it'll kill me, I expect Deuce will be the casualty as we try to shore up those minutes at C. But at this stage, I anxiously want to see how this team looks, small ball and all, before making any major moves.

McBride is gonna have to play well. Donte may get minutes at PG (As he did in GS w/ Pool behind Curry). Especially with Randle on the floor

Thought the goal was to compete for a chip?
Trading Randle for either of these two guys would be great if we were starting a rebuild and wanted some value type players with good trajectories.
No way either of these two make us better than having Randle.
Not to mention what a mistake it would be to trade Randle within our conference?
Contending with DM and Randle in the playoffs would be a tougher task then in the past.
IMHO, another case of underestimating what we have.
Which is one of the most physical Pads in the league.

and then there is the comment from someone yesterday (Katz?), a legit commentator that states "Randle two surgeries in two years and whose gonna give him 40mil next year". Maybe randle wants to finish his career somewhere else and maybe we are figuring if we need to use his cap to get center?
Its fun to speculate on his career but getting Mikal really got the roster a bit weird.
As for Mobley, its not about where he is but where he is moving to. when Allen went out last year Mobley did really well at the 5.
Money aside, Randle has to want to go if traded and sign there. Gives him some leverage.
Mobley as our 5? could be a valid concept going forward. Randle next to Allen is a formidable line up. Im fine keeping Randle. More than fine actually.
Im just trying to keep an open mind looking at our line up. We have a two year window. not saying it can't be longer but on paper and with Mitch's injury history we are just not there. But we close!!!!
