This is not even remotely close to a debate. Mikal is an elite defender with positional size and length who can put up an efficient 18-20ppg. DDV is an undersized sniper who plays hard on D but gets exposed a lot. Mikal has a much bigger offensive bag if were focused on shot creation (DDV was well below average shot creator off the bounce). And it's not even close on D. Mikal was 2nd in DPOY voting a few years ago.

DDV’s elite skill is a very good one at his position. That fast trigger catch and shoot. It takes no time at all for him to get his shot off. That fast twitch reaction on D was also very disruptive. He plays his role very well. You just can’t sag off of him on D. He was a valuable player on this team but yeah, over all Bridges is the better player.

The deal isn’t finished yet so are the players allowed to change cities? I assume yes because they need to take physicals but maybe just not practice or spend time with their new teams?

Agree that they are completely different players so it's not ideal to compare, but I don't think one GM in the league would take DDV over Mikal from a pure impact standpoint.

With regards to your second question. They asked Brunson at media day if he spoke to "Karl" and he said "who's Karl?" as if he knew he wasn't allowed to speak on the trade yet. But I saw photos of KAT with a Knicks hat in NY from today.

A GM would absolutely take DD over Bridges.
Given the value and the role to fill.

I would say it depends. Both are on good contracts. While I'd say Bridges is better, Donte is one of the best non-r0ookie contracts in the league. If I needed a pure shooting guard in the starting lineup, I might take Donte. But looking at how this roster stands now, the team is looking for a lot more out of the wing position in order to make up for KAT's defensive weaknesses.
GustavBahler @ 9/30/2024 2:34 PM
Towns knows that everyone, Thibs, the coaching staff, the fans, the media, are going to put KAT's D under a microscope this season. No getting around it.

We've seen what happens when Thibs doesnt believe that a player is giving maximum effort on D. He spares no one.

So I'm hopeful that KAT will come to NY on a mission to prove to everyone that he can at the very least, not be a liability on defense.

Keith Van Horn was at the bottom of my list of stars I wanted to see in a Knicks uniform because up to that point he was soft as tissue paper on D. He knew about his rep, and made a concerted effort to change the narrative, and he did.

KVH's D wasnt good enough to win any awards, but it was respectable as a Knick. Thats all I need to see from KAT. All the Knicks need (in addition to his scoring, passing) to make it a trade worth making.

Neither of you guys should ever complain about the number of games OG does or doesn’t play cause DDV averages the same and we are comparing him to a guy who averages 82 games a year.

I honestly don't think so. Bridges size/defense is too good and he can still shoot 3s very well. I don't think there is any reason to take DDV over Bridges on pretty much any team.

hard disagree there. I guess you view them both differently and that's fine, but I can't imagine that being true for any GM.

I was against the RJ/IQ trades, because of the injury issues. and RJ/IQ were homegrown kids with still potential left.

But this I'm 100% on board. For some reason KAT is labeled as soft and Randle as a "dog", but I trust KAT in a big playoff game much more, and he's just flat out better all around. And Randle is trending DOWN in his career at this point, especially with injuries.

Maybe Dadiet makes a trifecta at the wing come midseasom. Ok, reaching there.
But we have a GREAT team. Don’t want to compare them to the 90’s Knicks but…
Hope our bench works well.

Me too... I got Jules jersey in my closet

BUT

This is a much higher ceiling team. It's just about how much better KAT is than Jules.. it's the fit. We have a superstar PG who gets to the rim and paint against anyone at will. He's earned his shot and KAT really is the perfect fit.

Remember he's a NJ kid who grew up a Knick fan. Losing Jules is a gut punch. DD also. I really have good vibe about KAT here.

ALSO...

Go look at KAT under Thibs. Absolutely leveled up and I really think there are parts of his game we are gonna see unlocked here. I have high expectations.

Randle is great and while a bully ball post player can certainly work with Brunson the BEST fit is a guy like KAT on offense and by a lot. Open lanes and paint for Jalen or open 3s for a group of snipers.

You are comparing DDV to a player who never misses games, has an incredibly deep playoff history, elite defense over multiple positions and years, including #2 overall in the league couple years back.

DDV was very good for Knicks last year but he does not have the depth of career markers.

Isolate DDV’s best year and he is still a step down imho
