The moment we traded for Mikal I figured the vibes were no longer going to be completely immaculate.

I’d love to know what Julius and DDV really think of what just went down.

Me too. Said when Bridges was traded, that his Nova connection was the only reason why DDV wasn’t asking for a trade. Would be reasonable for Donte to feel either way. Would also like to hear from him.

But we finally have a true stretch 5!

And this is one of the things that has me questioning the deal other 5s,?. Can you call yourself a stretch if you don't guard other 5s? Whats stopping other teams from just sticking their version of "OG"on KAT? I dunno. Nothing will get answered until camp starts.

Kat is long. He shoots over the wing players. If "OG" smothers Kat, where is "OG's" man? Oh, Mikal or our OG is not open! I know you want to hate the deal but c'mon man, nobody is saying this is a perfect team.

Want to hate the deal? It comes down to this, this is the final major move this team can make due to cap restrictions. If they were going to make an deal like this, I'd like to think the team raised it's odds to win a title. I don't feel closer to Boston and, barring injuries, I feel the team took a step below the 76ers. I get it. We're all Knicks fans and we want the team to do well. But covering the obvious deficiencies this team now has with unfettered piles of BS optimism does make them go away. Thibs has done enough to earn our trust so I hope he figures something out. I'll leave it at that. Someone should do an official welcome to NY thread for KAT when the deal becomes official.

Jesus what a party pooper!

Pretty spot on though.

Vegas likes the move. Knicks leapfrogged Philly and Denver and has 3rd best title odds now, and just a hair behind 2nd (OKC).

We'll find out in June during the Finals when each team beats each other to a pulp I guess

Wonder what is keeping it from becoming official? Would be a shocker if Minny got cold feet.

Hold up is Thibs demanding Taj back from Charlotte. Reasonable.

If that’s the case, I’m surprised Charlotte is that hesitant to part with Taj unless it’s to exploit Thibs wanting his long time player back. Too far past his prime.

Knicks have to buyout Duane Washington’s Partizan contract or expand the trade to create about $2m more of outgoing cap.

I feel worse this time.

Me too... I got Jules jersey in my closet

BUT

This is a much higher ceiling team. It's just about how much better KAT is than Jules.. it's the fit. We have a superstar PG who gets to the rim and paint against anyone at will. He's earned his shot and KAT really is the perfect fit.

Remember he's a NJ kid who grew up a Knick fan. Losing Jules is a gut punch. DD also. I really have good vibe about KAT here.

ALSO...

Go look at KAT under Thibs. Absolutely leveled up and I really think there are parts of his game we are gonna see unlocked here. I have high expectations.

Randle is great and while a bully ball post player can certainly work with Brunson the BEST fit is a guy like KAT on offense and by a lot. Open lanes and paint for Jalen or open 3s for a group of snipers.

Players come and go. Wish DD and Randle luck. Except against us.
Questions are , is this enough?
What’s next? Is Josh or OG our PF?
Who is coming off the bench with proven scoring?

what Kat does is allow Brunson the whole floor to down the stretch. With Randle he's a post player. Now obviously he can cook in the post and Brunson spots up but you are really stuck there because the alternative has Randle the shooter which is not of finals caliber.

We have less depth there is enough. It's the best set up you could have around Brunson. If you believe in him than this is it.

I still like the bench. Payne is a good role player and excellent shooter. I expect Payne to backup Brunson (14ish minutes) and McBride to get minutes behind everyone else (30mpg). That leaves Precious and Sims which we know about. That's OK. That's a lot better if Mitch comes back.

Thats it! To say that you think the Knicks are taking a step back after this trade, tells me you are still unsure of how good Brunson really is. The second half of the season and in the playoffs, Brunson was one of the top 5, perhaps top 3 players (especially offensively) in the league!

After watching Brunson put up MVP-like numbers in the playoffs, the front office doubled down on the Brunson-centric offense and replaced iHart with an allstar callibre player that can stretch the floor (he can also out the ball on the deck and attack the rim) and force players like Embiid and other centers to actually attempt to play defense out on the perimeter. This will not only make Brunson better as the paint will open up, but Towns will be better as the defense will have to account for Brunson as well.

Then, the front office replaced D'ivo with Bridges. D'iVo was an absolute flamethrower last year, but Bridges is a much better all around player (he shot the 3 @ a 37% clip BTW) offensively and defensively. The addition of Bridges and Towns actually makes playoff-Brunson even more dangerous in my opinion which in turn will make us more dangerous.

I guess they factor in probable injuries in this list. No way in hell would the sixers not in the top 5 otherwise.
For the knicks, we can expect 20 games missed from Kat, og. Mitch is already injured. In that case, we might not reach 50 wins. What counts is being healthy come playoffs time.
I guess they even expect the Celtics to be bitten by the injury bug a bit.
It's the only explanation I see to take this rankings seriously.

This better be on every dressing room wall. Bring. It. On.

Flawed analytics. Someone should get told to do their homework again. They literally have every top team regressing.

I reread this a few times, where did he say that he thinks the Knicks are taking a step backwards after this trade ???

I'm agreeing with Fish....BigDaddyG mentioned that he thinks we took a step below the Sixers after this trade which I disagree with...

This is embarrassingly bad across the board. Celtics won 64 game last year lol. Where the sharks are placing their money is always a better tell then anything else, in my opinion.
