That pretty dope. If it works out.
It will take a little time for KAT to blend in.
Bridges should adapt easier.
How about the Hornets sneaking in their nets to capture a few pucks.

I remember when they hired Brock Aller. He was talked about as some sort of moneyball wizard but we didn’t really get to see him shine because Leon stayed the course for so long. His first order was finding undervalued cheap vets to get us back to respectability which led to “we here” season but still seemed like his perceived talents weren’t being showcazed. Now his work navigating the apron is just astounding tbh. What a FO we have here. I wonder if he’s still the guy finding all the value pickups ala Hartenstein. No doubts we are gonna find another gem soon.
DLeethal @ 10/2/2024 7:29 AM
Look at teams like Denver and even Minny having to dismantle contenders to avoid the aprons. Leon just lined us up a contender for years where all the top 4-5 guys can stick around. Kind of unheard of in this CBA.

we went from Mitch, Randle, RJ, Grimes, Brunson to

KAT, OG, MIkal,Hart and Brunson

in such a short span, and not only that, but these guys locked in for 4 years together. We were worried about paying Randle and IQ.

Not only that but he's been able to get guys to teams where they have a chance to shine. NY didn't want to give IQ that big contract but Toronto did. RJ went from a bad contract to a decent one in Toronto too. DDV and Randle should both get a chance to shine in Minny. Grimes got into a good situation in Detroit before his injury.

Aller sees 10 moves ahead. We had 4 scrubs at the end of the bench - Jeffries, Washington, Brown, Diakite and they were essential in making each blockbuster trade. Who the F saw that coming?!

Not me. Nope.

Ihart leaving was a blessing, this team badly needed a stretch big. KP was such a big get for BOS.

Much rather be paying KAT $50m then paying Randle and Ihart 50m.

we are a much better team now and more versatile. we can still go big with Mitch, but most of the time with KAT at the 5 our spacing will be Celtics-esque.

KAT over Ihart and Randle significantly raises our ceiling.

Nalod @ 10/2/2024 10:03 AM

Truth is we as fans also saw other trades as possible so its not hard to see that Randle, which no extension in place and Knicks with a gaping hole would want to solidify and balance the roster. Towns has been discussed many times over the years here and in media.
The how and when was way over our pay grade and media coving knicks. But it all starts to make sense in the aftermath.

Leons background as an agent, like others who have moved into front offices know how to get things done to the benefit of both and do so where the teams stay within the rules and operate with flexibility going forward. Nobody got raped in this deal. Both teams are better and Minny has flex going forward.
As for Aller, his job is to navigate the cap but its comes with little fanfare. HE is getting his due by media because knicks did a really masterful job leading up to this and its presented as such. Leon and Co. provided the pieces to make it happen, I think he has been operating like this for a while and some things did not work. Like Cam Reddish who might not have been a Thibian type but if we could have gotten him elevated he a better trade asset. Randle was here but also resigned here at a nice price and in return we provided an environment were he made all star teams and all NBA and is now in a position to make a really nice contract. We took care of him, and he did us also. Perhaps him getting traded was always on the table more than we know? We gave iHart a really nice raise and a two year deal. In time he did the work but it was not that smooth year 1 and he never really displaced Mitch in the starting line up. Injury did. iHart was a true success story and unfortunately new CBA and his surge got him outpriced. Aller fail? Nope, he over achieved!! DDV? He also got a massive raise from us and perhaps more than what Minny was able to pay him. Im sure he rather have not been traded from his Nova buds but its a tough biz and we took care of him. He worked hard and thrived in our culture!
Aller genius is part of Leons genius. We only see the deals that got done and grade them. Leon has not batted 100% but nobody does. He puts knicks in a position to be successful. If Embiid was made available, he was ready. If Giannis, we were ready to pounce. He did this with Mikal.
Maybe he tried to get others like Sangun or Ayton but the price was too high. Perhaps if Danny was not so tight we get DonovanMitchell right away and we don't sign Brunson? Maybe?? The rumors did fly even after we signed Jalen. What is impressive is we could have afforded Donovan but Leon drew a line. To go over it and not consider the path is a starphuch.

Someone here called Towns a "Starphuch". I doubt that very much because we did not empty the cupboard to get a marquee attraction as we did with Marbury or Melo. Those trades were for productive players to generate a buzz and sell tickets and generate interest with hope. Not all starphuchs are linear disasters. Melo had great seasons and we had one really good 54 win season!
This is no starphuch. It was calculated as was perhaps others we have no idea of. Not lost on Minny was they moved him to the east and put him in a good scenario as well. Adult for them. As for the price we paid, lets be honest, we called them. But Minny would be remiss if they did not talk to others.

We start the season with 4 core players: two Allstars and two top role players in Mikal and OG. All under contract or control and logical to extend over the next 4 years. Josh Hart is a fine journeyman player who has really found his niche here. If he gets that jumper worked out he'll be great.

I don't think we win a chip this year because usually moves like we did need another year to fill out depth. Im not counting it out because in the age of parity good fortune in ones health and others not could move the dial. The teams are not that far apart. Im not in the prediction game of doom/gloom nor we have reached the promised land quite yet. Im here to enjoy the ride. I don't like trading away players we root for and grow to like but in time the new guys if they show up replace them in our fandom hearts. WE still have Deuce as our rook! LOL

Celtic got more out of KP then was expected and with the other core healthy able to win a chip.
That Milwaukee faded with injuries to Giannis and Middleton, and Philly who played with Embiid on one leg and still nearly beat us left them an easy entry to the finals especially with Halliburton injured again.

Philly was patient letting Harris expire and using his cap space this year with PG13. They and Cavs have not totally gone away. If Mobley figures it out they are very formidable. Add Indy and Orlando and the east is not cake walk like Boston might have had it last year.
Injuries are part of the game. Always has been and more so in the age of parity and this CBA. Few dynasty teams can exist given the finances available to rising players.
I expect the knicks to be competing in the top 4 for final seeding.

Could we have resigned iHart for 18mm, and still traded out Randle, DDV, for towns? If we don't resign Precious and perhaps move Mitch for picks, less money?

Nova knicks vs. PhoeKnicks? Josh Hart is a luxury. I love the guy and his hustle. You get back a longer wing in his place? More elite? Your move Mitch and Josh still you can still reformulate this team. Not prediction or wishing it. Just keeping an open mind. Trading Josh? Hey, not advocating. Just saying.........

And still not official? I was hoping for KATs’ first expressions.

did they though? He played 57 games, I think thats right around his career average and what you'd expect. His injury concerns were legit but overblown at the same time. I mean he's played about the same number of games as KAT the past few years.

Injuries are just a big thing in the NBA, so we'll certainly need a bit of luck like anyone else.

we should send Steve mills a thank you note for signing Randle?

KAT over Ihart and Randle significantly raises our ceiling.

So you have to include Donte- but I have been thinking we are better off with Kat vs. Ihart.

Kat shot 416 from 3 last year which legit would have led our team last year.

just comparing starting lineups, we got DDV for nothing but the MLE and then he was the centerpiece for a trade for a star a year later. Crazy how much things changed in 1-2 years.

Brunson came here for nothing.

DDV was an MLE signing that led to KAT.

Heck even Deuce was signed for peanuts allowing us to trade IQ and get OG.

Hard to argue with anything this FO has done after the Obi pick.

And the Cam Reddish trade but that was small potatoes IMO

nycericanguy @ 10/2/2024 11:43 AM
the OG trade was tough to swallow for me, because RJ & IQ are both really good. And OG is always hurt. But it was also that I didn't think it left us enough assets for a true star.

So to turn around and get KAT & Mikal months later is really impressive. I think we overpaid for Mikal, but underpaid for KAT.
