Smoke?

So on TV this AM they are saying this is first time in 20 year career that Lebron opted in without an extension.

He has though almost always threatened to leave every summer in order to put pressure on his team to improve.

I do wonder if Lakers didn't offer him an extension (or at least one he liked) and now he is pissed and trying to get out.

One angle that is interesting. If he wanted out - why not just opt out and become a F.A.?

Not sure on this but if he were a F.A. many teams would be capped out and unable to offer him big $ so maybe in this case he is getting his +$50M and will force LA to move him. And if he were a F.A. some teams may be restricted from pursuing a sign/trade.

Also because it's off season Lebron despite being a $50M player (+$14M) - he can still go to ANY team - no restrictions on teams that otherwise can't pursue guys making over the $14.1M MLE.

No idea at all what's going on but would assume Lebron stays in LA.

Don’t be shocked if LeBron ends up owning like a 1% piece of the lakers with a new ownership group after he retires. Silver badly wants him to stay with the lakers.

Or a bigger piece with the Vega's expansion team.
You have a portal in Silvers head?
If you did you'd understand Seattle's demographics for an expansion team.

Jerome really had a bad playoff run this year. Merril is that solid sharpshooter that spreads the floor. Are they better with Ball than Jerome?

Let's be real, Knicks were healthy most of the year besides Mitch. Clev had issues in playoffs as did Celtics. Indy came on strong and had the best record in the east after Jan 1st. Orlando started out the season very strong until they got the injury bug. Suggs, Paolo and the Wagners all missed a lot of games. They were ahead of us for weeks to start. With Bane they are better as will be ATL. Indy without Hali will still be ok if one of Nebhard or Matherin take it one more level. To what degree?
ATL is improved.

Jerome was probably the 2nd best bench player in the league after Payton Pritchard. 44% from 3 and 52% from the field. He was actually GREAT in the Miami series average 16% a game on 50% from 3 and 52% from the field and 5 assists.

Where he struggled was vs. Indiana...but the entire team was horrible in that series and (and Indiana, as we know, was great in the postseason). Coach lost confidence in him and they won one game where they left him on the bench for a lot of it, and that informed the next 2 games (incorrectly in retrospect). I like Sam Merrill, but he has less of a bag and was less efficient from 3 than Jerome. I guess with Ball there, there are less mins for Ty so they went ahead and let him go. I still thought the market would be bigger for Ty, as his scoring/shooting efficiency and ability to do some creation are difficult to find for a bench guy.

On net Cleveland is down Jerome and Okoro and replaced them with Ball who while having great size/creation ability, is a bad shooter who in the last 4 years has played 35 games, 0 games, 0 games, 35 games. Not sure if they have gotten better. Lets see what else they do - they could use another bench big.

Indiana is a good team, but without the Haliburton engine driving the speed of that offense, they aren't the same threat.

Orlando with a major upgrade in Bane and Tyus Jones - some ballhandling and creation ability added tot he team (though they have lost some bench firepower). I expect them to be a tough contender.

Detroit added Levert, is getting Ivey back, but Beasley is likely out, Hardaway may not be back and Schroeder is gone. Just Levert replacing those guys is not enough. They are down a tremendous amount of shooting at the moment. I know they have an interest in Duncan Robinson, lets see what happens there.

Atlanta is looking great. Jalen Johnson alone is a huge guy to get back. Severely underrated player. Now you had Kennard, KP and Alexander-Walker. That's an interesting 5 out type team with a lot of rangy wing defenders and a lot of shooting. Their weakness is size, rebounding and possibly durability. Still they look like a 50 win team potentially.

Milwaukee brings back the same bench pieces, but loses Brook Lopez, and Lillard out. Definitely arrow down, but don't count out Giannis.

Celtics replace Luke Kornet with Luka Garza and already down KP, Jrue and Tatum.

Miami stuck in the mud right now.

Philly adds Trendon Watford. They will roll the dice with George and Embiid again...McCain coming back and VJ Edgecome is a great addition. Don't count them out from bouncing back.

Top 4 teams in the east next year: Cleveland, NY, Orlando, Atlanta?

Apparently Detroit trying to sign and trade Schroeder to Sacramento for Malik Monk. Why would Sacramento do that? Makes no sense...

Alas, his run with the Kings has gotten progressively worse. His 3-point shot abandoned him after that fateful season in LA. He shot 35%, 35%, and 32% in his three seasons in Sacramento. That doesn’t mean he’s not a dangerous offensive player. Even last season, in an extremely trying year where he was played mostly out of position in Sacramento, he shot 57% from within 8 feet, 47% from 8-16 feet, and 42% from 16-24 feet.

The problem could be that Monk is most effective in ways similar to new Piston Caris LeVert and incumbent Piston Jaden Ivey. If they all want the ball in their hand, if they all want to drive and create, and if they are not dangerous enough from deep to create space for their teammates, what are you really accomplishing here?

Wouldn’t you want one of LeVert or Monk and not both?

Probably locker room drama behind the scenes. I welcome that trade.

Insane numbers

Schroeder is basically just an older version of Monk that they are talking about giving almost as much money, so don't really get that from Sacramento's perspective.

Schroeder is more of a playmaker, and Monk has been mostly jacking up shots the last few seasons.

Knicksfan @ 7/1/2025 11:09 AM

Kinda shocking!

VDesai @ 7/1/2025 11:11 AM
Schroeder had a crazy year. Got traded like 3 times in the same season, ended the year shooting like crap, then recovered with a great series against us and now is getting paid $14mm year in a tough market. Meanwhile a guys like 26 year old Gary Trent, a career 39% 3pt shooter on high volume makes the min for a 2nd straight year
