Bigs: KAT, Robinson, Achiuwa, Sims
Wings: Anunoby, Bridges, Hart, Dadiet
Guards: Brunson, McBride, Payne, Kolek, Shamet
Thats 13 likely. The only room under the 2nd apron would be adding a converted 2-way player. Given the need at wing, McCullar is our best bet, but he was unable to play summer league due to injury (and was flagged during the draft process which made him drop) and we have heard so little about him all summer. I have to wonder what his status is. Given Dadiet is 13th man and essentially unplayable due to being so raw, there has to be a plan to fill out the end of the roster. We currently have 11 non-rookies under contract with no salary space to add. Something has to give. I haven’t been more excited about an incoming Knicks team in a long time, but I am hoping they can sort this out sooner rather than later. I see this team as maybe having 12 playable players, plus Dadiet, plus a converted 2-way guy as things stand. Considering Mitch is one of those 12, it’s certainly not enough. We need this front office to find some more loopholes and work their magic.
Okeke and Hukporti or Toppin

Hukporti also looked raw. I would think Toppin is the next man up. The Hukster probably on two-way like Sims. Dwight Howard still out there...

Unfortunately, Deuce. He is an overlap role with a ton of value on a contract that is easily movable.
Jalen, Cam, Kolek fill the PG spot. Lots of guys for SG.
And Mitch.
I’d like to see a veteran PF that Thibs trust enough to actually play, which is why I find it odd that they waived Morris.
I was actually starting to think it may make sense for Deuce (or Shamet) to start alongside Brunson in the backcourt. Allows Hart to be that spark off the bench. Before when it was DDV vs Bridges - I was thinking DDV would fit better with the starters and allow Bridges to keep his Nets focus on being a scorer and defender off the bench. When the game gets tight of course he would be in there. For me I would not make any other trade until the season starts and we can see how things are going. Why trade Mitch for Herb Jones? Leaves us short either on the wing or at C. I'd always rather have size as we will likely have to go through Boston and/or Philadelphia.
Go with this lineup to start? Better balance IMO for both units.
KAT
Precious
OG
Deuce
Brunson
Bridges
Hart
Payne
Shamet
Mitch/Sims

Precious played well enough last season, filling in for Randle that some were joking that it was the "Precious trade" when OG got hurt. I dont know where Thibs will mostly slot him, at the 4 or 5. But Im hoping we see Precious playing the bulk of his minutes at PF. .
He did a good job (better than most were expecting) dont know why Thibs would'nt trust Precious at least a little. Until he gives him a good reason not to.

Can’t be Toppin. It must be a player with zero years experience. McCullar, Hukporti or another undrafted player.
McCullar if he is healthy is a guy with rotation ready skills, but we havent heard anything about his health.
There seems to be room for Hukporti if he shows something in camp.

Yes I am really curious about McCullar. Media hasn’t written anything about him. It wasn’t that long ago he was mocked all the way into the late lottery and viewed as an immediate rotation player to whomever selected him. Then the knee injury, which I don’t think was ever reported as what the specific issue was, completely derailed his draft stock. Even with that, he was expected as a late first or early second rounder. And fell all the way down to the Knicks at the end of the second round. Is he just suddenly not viewed as a potential rotation player due to some chronic knee thing ? Or is there a chance he’s still who he was during the college season? Because I saw him play a ton when he was viewed as a possible Knicks first round pick and he was really good.

I had read an article recently where he even had a setback during rehab his summer, I think his college coach or someone at that level mentioned. I could be slightly wrong on the timing but definitely after NCAA tourney was over.

He's on a two way contract, didn't play summer league so we haven't seen any action yet. There is nothing to talk about...yet.
I think he is a rotation quality talent in the mold of Josh Hart. The injury concerns will be there for a while until he proves they are not concerns.
His shot needs to improve. I think the g-league time will help there.
Is Rokas Jokubaitis now a possibility?

I know he signed a contract overseas, but the last thing we need is another PG.

Yeah, it looks like it's probably going to be the Hukster. This just hammered down the new reality of this CBA. Second rounders and UDFA are going to be even more important going forward.

Knicks having the rights to Jokubaitis, the new rights to Nnaji, and the Washington pick likely converting to 2026 and 2027 high second round picks is going to come in very handy for filling out the roster. If we are smart, we can develop some of these players into contributors similar to Deuce.
NYKBocker wrote:Is Rokas Jokubaitis now a possibility?
Teams need to carry a minimum of 14 players, Knicks have 12 guaranteed contracts and only salary under the second apron for 1 vet min and the the amount of turning a 2-way into a min contract (I guess it’s less than vet min).
Shamet is the assumed vet min and then you pick one of the 2-way guys.
No Rokas.
Brunson, McBride, Mikal, Hart, OG, KAT, Precious, Mitch. Top 8. Payne, Shamet, Sims. 11 total. Kolek, Dadiet, Hukporti in Westchester.
Jrue, White, Brown, Tatum, KP, Horford, Pritchard, Hauser. Top 8. Kornet, Tillman, Springer. 11 total.
The only guys above 6’8 on Celtics are KP, 38yo Horford, Kornet.
And everyone thinks Knicks bench and bigs list is thin?
These cap mechanics are getting complicated. I was happy to see Okeke back. Currently the espn depth chart has OG as the lone power forward on the roster. Is it possible to sign a vet to a two- way contract? I think whoever the Knicks pick up needs to be a bigger forward.
I’d like to see a bigger guard on the roster, cause what’s the point in cooking Cam Payne or Tyler every practice? A 6’4” guard who is defensive stopper that can prepare him Jrue Holliday is what I have in mind..

I think KAT and Precious will rotate around the Center and PFs slots. If worse comes worse we always have Josh. 😞
