Knicks · Dadiet looks like a player (page 1)

Love how confident he’s been in preseason. He’s shown elite catch and shoot ability, great off-ball movement, and solid instincts on both sides of the ball. I will never expect an impact player right away. He’s 19. But all of a sudden he looks like a really interesting prospect because guys his age aren’t supposed to look this solid in preseason year 1. If the shooting holds up, he can play a role this year as a 9th man of sorts for a few minutes here and there. McBride, Payne and Achiuwa will soak up nearly all of the bench minutes, but there’s a path for a big wing who can shoot and isn’t a liability defensively. And long term, I can see him taking on a greater role off the bench, maybe similar to Cam Johnson if the shooting is real. Eventually, maybe by year 3, I can see him uprooting Josh Hart as the 5th starter due to the size and shooting ability. Obviously don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but I’m really encouraged with how he has looked (and Kolek) and I see a ton of upside in his game.

Agreed! Very impressed by what I see. This is not Frank or Kevin Knox. He genuinely has a good feel for the game. He is the rare Knicks player that understands how to move without the ball and get into open spots. He kind of gives me that feeling that I had with Porzingis when he was a rook. Let’s hope he keeps it up once the scouting report gets out on him.

Lets give some credit, the kid was a first round pick! Perhaps he was a bit too young to be picked earlier or not in "Luka Doncic" league yet.
Lets not be stupid to think because he is French, or a knick pick he will bust. Knox had slow feet. Frank might have come close but his body never got stronger.
My fear is he his floor is Dante Exum or Killian Hayes. Big kids that never got man strength. They they get hurt.
There might be good reason this kid could rise faster. Seemed he had a bit of an audition last night?
Typing it into existence does not make it happen. Be great to have an rising player on a good rookie scale for the next few year. We need that kind of player.
If they rise too fast? Good problem!

Too young? If I recall a statistic, the average age of US soldiers in Vietnam was 19. I am optimistic a 19 year is capable of contributing to a Basketball team. Let's go Dadiet !
Knixkik @ 10/20/2024 7:28 AM
Dadiet just gives us this major variable with the team being more-less a finished product. There’s only so much we can do from a roster construction standpoint going forward and Dadiet offers the possibility of a new dynamic.

Now you've done it!
Tomorrow they'll announce trading Mitch and Hart for Brandon Ingram

Imagine if Thibs gives this kid 10 mpg off the bench to start. We do need a wing on the bench and he's the only one we have.

The fans would go about as wild as Soto hitting another extra inning, series winning homerun?

MS @ 10/20/2024 11:34 AM
Honestly, I think we’re going to have to play him. We’ll need his shooting. We’re so thin right now, and we haven’t even hit an OG/KAT situation yet. We can’t afford heavy minutes all season.

Preseason 3-point %:
KAT - 4/23
Bridges - 2/19
Hart - 0/5
OG - 5/16
Deuce - 14/29

Dadiet - 5/9

I know it’s a limited sample, but his stroke is pure. Need to have another guy ready for the playoffs.

I believe this is one of the big things that drew them scouting department to them. Feel for the game at 19 yrs old. He's also more filled out physically than I thought he would be coming in.

Year or 2 of NBA weight training while picking the brains of OG & Warren!!

As long as he's earned it.

Man could you imagine if Dadiet contributes significantly off the bench against the Celts and the Knicks win Tuesday !!! Take a victory lap Walt Perrin !
CleaverGreene @ 10/20/2024 7:38 PM
One of the old coaching strategies, if I recall correctly, was actually starting a rookie like Dadiet, but limiting his minutes, unless he played well, so such a player would start, but rarely get starter's minutes.

If he can defend well against NBA starting talent, and play complimentary ball on offense, who knows what happens by the end of the year.

We got a nickname for Dadiet yet?

Puff-Dadiet?
