Football Jets have a super talented roster but sold its soul with Aaron Rodgers? A very dark cloud IS over this franchise.
I don't follow football much anymore but Woody Johnson running this team has been problematic for some time.
He tried to build a stadium on the west side in Manhattan but this soon after 9/11 and the atmosphere was not right. Dolan did not want that building in his back yard either. Understandable. Johnson did kick in $800mil toward MetLife Stadium. Jets now can opt out of lease with a window that opens every 5 years. 2025 and 2030 are the next ones.
NYC went from having too few Arenas and now has Newark, Brooklyn, Belmont and MSG in the metro area. A domed stadium could be a very good project. Given inflation and the comeback of NYC hindsight perhaps says it should have been done.
Can a team really function on just 10 home games per season in a new dedicated arena? Doubtful. What other events can carry it?
Rodeo? Monster trucks? Some Marquee College games? Bowl games? Olympic bid? Are there any stadium tour bands that can carry like The Rolling Stones and Taylor Swift?
Is this when Woody realizes he does not have the juice to do this himself and sell the team? Where Saudi or other sovereign silly money comes in and builds a palace for them? Would that alienate the blue collar following the team has?
The Jets are sad.
Are you implying the Jets might move away from NYC? Like far away! You are getting my hopes up.
My mom hates the Dodgers because she grew up with them in Brooklyn and when they left, just say my mom is bitter and resentful.
Maybe if Woody moves them out of NY, I can have the same experience and be free from being a Jet fan.
The season is worse than I even thought possible. I mean, who bets everything on a 40 year old QB in one of the most violent sports out there? Clearly, he just doesn’t have it, and that makes what Tom Brady did so friggin amazing, I hate Tom Brady, but unreal unique human being.
I don’t see how this season is Karma - just Woody is maybe just an incompetent human being who has too much money to play with.
Dolan got lucky. He should offer as advice whatever went through his head that got him Leon Rose.
Like if I were Woody, I’d ask Leon - hey, who should I hire as my GM?
