Knicks · How to Landry Shamet (page 1)

Right now he's with the baby Knicks. We just filled the 13th & 14th roster spot by converting Huk and signing Ryan to a vet minimum contract. These contracts were prorated from the start of the season but we still don't have enough cap to sign Shamet.

So what is the plan? They are keeping Shamet close for a reason. There's another move here somewhere.

The plan is to switch Ryan to a two way and sign Landry to the prorated vet min when he's healthy.

Wonder when we're going to see Ryan? Sure could use more bench scoring.

Did Ryan sign a non-guaranteed contract?

Not necessary. Knicks can resign Shamet on a prorated contract in February and have enough room under the second apron. He would be the 15th man.

Without any moves the final active roster would look like this:

C Towns/ Robinson/ Hukporti
PF Anunoby/ Achiuwa/ Sims
SF Hart/ Ryan/ Dadiet
SG Bridges/ McBride/ Shamet
PG Brunson/ Payne/ Kolek

Think it was Keith Smith said today that the Huckporti/Ryan signings will allow enough $ to sign a prorated vet min contract in mid February - which could specifically align with Shamet's timeline. This would be for the 15th spot and not a replacement for Huck/Ryan.

Now given he's talking about mid-feb --- much can happen (trades/etc) before that date/time.

This aligns with K Smith comment where if Knicks wait until mid-feb the prorated vet min contract drops just below our available apron $ and allow a Shamet signing for 15th spot....in addition to Huck/Ryan.

Same for me - like it.

Last year 45% and career 41% (on limited opportunities) is nothing to sneeze at and (like Shamet) I really like the value of guys that move off the ball (understand how to slide to proper spots off penetration and have quick release catch/shoot ability).

Thing I think is still clearly lacking is some type of dynamic ball-handler, shot opportunity creator outside of Brunson.

Have to assume they will target that by trade deadline --- someone in the Clarkson (or better) mold.

It's still possible if for example we surround Payne with say Deuce/Ryan/Mikal he can provide some shot creation we need but not sure I'd bet on that.

A lot is dependent on Landry's recovery timeline and Ryan's fit with the roster. Sounds like there is a scenario where the Knicks could drop both and sign whoever isnavailable at the min.I would not a Mitch trade before the deadline. But a lot of players have been dropping like flies league wide, so who knows?
