Knicks · Who is the Knicks best player? (page 1)

VDesai @ 11/12/2024 10:26 PM
Jalen is a 2nd half player. Look at each of the last 2 years. KAT has otherworldly talent, but Jalen is literally made of different stuff. He has earned our patience
Swishfm3 @ 11/12/2024 10:31 PM
10 games in? KAT hands down

I would go as far as to OG has been the Knicks SECOND best player so far.

EwingsGlass @ 11/13/2024 7:13 AM
It’s more fun talking about the Knicks after a win.

I was choosing between Brunson and KAT. Brunson is the Captain. He’s slightly undersized l. Plays a somewhat unconventional game. Smart as hell and highly skilled. Gets his shot off mainly by trickery. Can impact the game even when he is getting shut down. His shot selection is a little inefficient, particularly when guard by 7’+ wingspans. But he generally finds the open man when they throw wingspan at him.

KAT has great positional size at C. His shooting is elite. Not just for a center. For any NBA player. His passing skills are there and are opening up. His outside-in offensive game is among the best I have ever seen. You can’t guard him out to 27 feet cause he can put the ball on the floor. You can’t double him cause he can see the open man.

Honestly, as much as I love Brunson, I went with KAT. But that might just be because KAT is hot and Brunson is taking one for the team as other teams try and shit him down.

We all know if your best player is small..............
For us to win a chip KAT has to be our best player and I think Jalen is fine to make that happen.
Second half of last season might not sustainable given the beating he takes. NBA is letting more contact occur and that won't help him get to the line.
Its also important Mikal find his rhythm. Then, in my mind Jalen can find his.

KAT might be our best player, but Jalen is our MOST IMPORTANT.

Knixkik @ 11/13/2024 8:45 AM
It’s absolutely Brunson. It starts and ends with him. But I think towns is a lot better than people have given him credit for these last few years. A change of scenery was probably overdue for him. OG might be the best role player in the nba right now, if there was a way to quantify that designation. Clearly our third best player, which isn’t necessarily a knock on bridges, but he hasn’t made it a debate either.
SergioNYK @ 11/13/2024 9:35 AM
How quickly we forget Brunson put up Jordan-like numbers in the playoffs.
Philc1 @ 11/13/2024 10:13 AM
Tbh I don’t think we have a clear cut “best player” I think we have 4 all-stars (JB, KAT, OG, Mikal). That’s fine. I honestly can’t remember a Knicks team in my lifetime with 4 all-stars. Max we had in the 90’s was 2. 2012 we had 2 all stars (Carmelo, Chandler).

Hart has been our 4th best player though. He’s been a do-it-all guy on both ends of the floor.

Those numbers were born out of necessity given Randle was out, and he was our primary option to win.
His IMPORTANCE is also that he takes a back seat when the team is clicking on all cylinders and be the QB.
WE all expected his numbers to fall a bit if all went well. 72 more games to go.

Jalen might be our MVP if he sacrifices production for the betterment of his team and be fresh for when he is needed.
"Small players don't lead teams to chips". Lets be real, its a very small elite group that can carry a team. He did for a long stretch. In the end he broke down.
Not just because he is not all. He was top 5 mvp voting and ascended to stardom!

Jalen has demonstrated a maturity and desire to achieve above money. At least in the present tense. Im not saying he is a saint but seems to have an awareness not seen frequently and makes him a unique leader. If he and Mikal are having rhythm issues its on both of them with Thibs to work it out. Won't be a lack of effort. Some things can't typed or said into existence.

I'm not sure how you get 4 Allstars. As valuable as OG is to this team and maybe someday Mikal process himself an impactful player, neither will be elected to be Allstars while playing on this team. They are not the type of players that get voted onto Allstar teams. That said OG can be in the running for DPOY

They were necessary, but the fact that he was able to do them, and in the playoffs, shows how incredible he is.

BigDaddyG @ 11/13/2024 11:16 AM
Love JB and I'm counting on him to get together. But as of now, we only have one player who's playing like a shoo-in for the AS game this year. KAT has been our best player to date.
VDesai @ 11/13/2024 11:30 AM
Half this board thought KAT was a dog and Brunson was Zeus on Mt Olympus at playoff time last year. Brunson is no where near peak form and has been a 2nd half player in his tenure here (check the splits). KAT is one of the most gifted players to come into the NBA and Brunson is the epitome of hard work and maximizing everything. Brunson has that DNA that KAT hasn't shown he has though - the thing that wills teams to win.
franco12 @ 11/13/2024 12:09 PM
I can’t pick one! There are so many ways to be best. Best all around? Josh. Best pure shooter- KAT. Best athlete/defender - OG. Best player down the stretch, ball in his hands, Jalen.

If OG ever learned how to attack off the dribble, he would be top of the list.

Chandler @ 11/13/2024 12:31 PM
Tough choice but i went with KAT. he hasn't been a ball hog and that was the main issue

As good as OG has been, there is something so awkward going on when he has the ball in his hands, dribbling. It's like an uncertainty.

GustavBahler @ 11/13/2024 12:40 PM
KAT has been in the league a lot longer, so I will only vote for this season. Brunson is having a slow start, and KAT has been elite on offense, so I voted for Towns.

Towns is having a tremendous first season with the Knicks. He's averaging 24.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and shooting 51.1% from 3-point range. His player efficiency rating (PER) is fifth in the league at 27.1, only trailing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (27.4), Giannis Antetokounmpo (30.2), Anthony Davis (31.4) and Nikola Jokic (33.4)

The vote was for this year.
I reiterate I said Jalen was our most "IMPORTANT".
We talking 10 games.

Yes it will take time. We need to keep reminding ourselves even after the tough losses.
