Knicks · Are you (not) entertained? (page 1)

Needs time. January Knicks was one of my favorite Knicks teams in my lifetime. Only seeing that together for a month will add to the folklore.

This team is slowly coming around. Lots of flaws. Not complete yet on D. Achiuwa will make a difference. Brunson still isnt in his best form. He broke a hand to end last year and has been a 2nd half kinda guy since he has been here. Just wait.

Nalod @ 11/18/2024 9:24 AM
I think you are not alone is the over glamorization of last season improbable run that started with a nice team that had Barrett and IQ and slow start by Randle coming off of ankle surgery. WE had Mitch starting and iHart was really not special. Yet.
In time Grimes shit the bed and lost his job. DDV flourished later in the season.
With the OG trade, which was not universally loved we got to really see OG play. Most of us had our opinions but what he bought to the team was not expected and the January thing happened! Then Randle went down and it continued. Then Mitch went down and iHart emerged as special.

Born from middling expectations and Randle frustrations came Brunson to a top 5 MVP finish to top it off. DDV became a fearless gunslinger playing carefree perhaps for the first time in his career with his NovaBrothers. Lets not forget Deuce gets a 3 year deal and a solid role he stepped up to that expectation. You had a wonderful formula and a very satisfying season.

With Mikal and Kat added you also expand the expectation and thats a buzz kill. So we remember last year in the most fondness of terms and 12 games in look at how so many are so not enamored with the lack of results due to injury, schedule, and expectations!

KAT is freaking awesome and making most of us look silly with the lack of understanding of who he was previously and why Leon was so enamored to get him. Mikal since we did not draft him has been built up by many as a near god and his Net performance as primary scorer inflated that.

My evidence is how many of us are like "I never watched much of XXXX but....". In Kat he exceeds. In Mikal he disappoints yet this is plug and play type looks. The team by this measure should be doing better but logically we know there is chemistry to be gained. OG did not need that, and in fact what he did was a near miracle where a player comes in and makes everyone better!

So last year we were "Wowed". "Folklore", good term! This year the bar set higher? Last year we were the "it Team". I say this every year that one team just emerges from the pack better than thought. As fans we discounted Clev in part because we owned them two years ago but Mobley all grown up and Atkinson has them clicking. Mitchell has his bag and Garland was set free. Really great start with a core team that is not together a few years and rounded out.

Brunson "Slow start"?..... Could be part conditioning, new more physical rules and not getting as many calls, also lets discuss the more our team was down in players last year the more he did. We all knew this team if healthy has more firepower and less of Brunson is not a bad thing when others are performing. OG is doing more, Mikal is capable, and KAT is the focal point. Lets be real, On Dallas he was for sure worth more then the 55mil they could give him but he did not shine with Luka around. Logical. I think maybe a flaw in brunsons game is he needs to do better turning it on and off, when to be be the man, when to distribute more, and perhaps his court vision is not fantastic. Its good, but to do what he does best might not enable. him to see things. Or, he is trying and that is taking his rhythm out a bit? We see players all the time have growing pains and is Jalen really really exempt from that also? His emergence last year, got married, new dad, and is captain in the biggest market. I think he is doing great! Reality is there might be so much he can do and just has to take it a bit slow as a fan.

That might be where the fan experience differs. We not there yet, might not be this year, or if so its gonna be later.
Im entertained. Its not the result, but the journey!

You answered lots of questions, but not the one I asked: Which have you enjoyed watching better?
JB, DDV, OG, Hart, iHart
or
JB, Bridges, OG, Hart, KAT
?
Forget expectations and record. I know you like to police everyone's emotions, but I'm asking you to go with your emotions.

I edited my note and did vote. Im voting for the current team.
Last year was a blast. We just 12 games in. Lets see how this season shakes out?
Last year at this time we were depressed at RJ ceiling, IQ wanted his bag, and Randle was still getting into shape.

Emotional police? LOL, I like that. Yeah, some of you are guilty of crimes!
Me? the jury is still out.

but I AINT talking about RJ or IQ!

Nalod @ 11/18/2024 9:43 AM
RJ Barrett played 26 games last season. He was part of last season.
Quickly played 30 games.

your beyond "folklore" if you don't look at the details of last year. Your now in denial.

Nalod @ 11/18/2024 9:47 AM
Last season ended great. Season before was a disappointment. So yeah, last year becomes a fairy tale ending of sorts with team making it to conf. Semi's and playing their asses off.

Context.

No. Not context. That's not what this thread is about. I asked you to put that aside and answer which you would rather be watching?
JB, DDV, OG, Hart, iHart
or
JB, Bridges, OG, Hart, KAT
?
I keep asking that, and you keep talking to me about RJ an IQ.
Its a simple question. What did you/have you enjoyed more?

Nalod @ 11/18/2024 10:34 AM
look at note from 9:40am. I said this current team.
I voted as such.

Why? Higher ceiling.
Last year was great. Context was it evolved into what it was from the start to the finish.

martin @ 11/18/2024 11:21 AM
I think everyone understands this thing needs more time?

JB, DDV, OG, Hart, iHart iteration took a long time to get underway and didn't really show up until playoffs cause OG was out just after Randle went down?

Finished products typically look better than new ones?

SergioNYK @ 11/18/2024 11:26 AM
I'll revisit this at the All-Star break cause it's way too early for me. I will say KAT is def better and tougher then I expected.
Rookie @ 11/18/2024 11:58 AM
This team but we need a few bench pieces. If the bench can't score the starters are going to play 40 minutes a game
EwingsGlass @ 11/18/2024 12:05 PM
New team for me. Don't get me wrong. Last year's team had real chemistry that this one doesn't have yet. But this team has much more upside. This team has been good enough wile they work out their identity and when Brunson, Bridges, OG, Hart and Towns get cooking, I believe their upside will far exceed last year's team. I don't really have any complaints even as they adjust to the new squad.

Last night they had 4 guys score 20 points in their starting lineup, and the one that didn't was Brunson. When we get all 5 truly cooking its going to be a sight to behold.

fishmike @ 11/18/2024 2:14 PM
love Randle (have his jersey), love DD, did not like the trade and I chose #2 and it's not close. One could make an easy case for KAT being the most talented player on the roster. Randle and IHart were excellent passing bigs. KAT is not only better but he's so far superior a scorer and floor spacer he's already changing things bigtime here.

I think we get someone at the deadline. Mitch coming back will also help depth

3 games behind Boston. Are you not entertained?

Do recall the writings of Panos, the narrator of a past that was to remind us of the blood spilled and we slayed the Giant Embiid, and so gallanty lost to the the Laughing king, the Halliburton of Tye.

No, we did not gain the "Iron Throne" but of course how can one not be entertained? DDV, our swashbuckling dashing ginger who came from the west to seek fortune in the big city friends who hailed from the city of brotherly love were they not once, but twice were champions in their youth!
Brunson, our fair king lead thru honor and he too sacrificed at seasons end to not seek all riches due him but his devotion was of a selfless man of the people! oh yes, how entertaining!
Of course we forget not the one who hails from the north, we speak of sir OG Won Annanobi he hails from the future with an other worldly ability to see things before they happen!
He bought his from the the endeared special one to whom few exist. His mother deemed him "Precious!" He sought riches up north but he was challenged. Here, he bowed before the Thibian emperor to defend the rim then thy seek points!
The Mild one, not once but twice or the one called "Duece" who as the keen apprentice working hard to please his Thibian sponsor. He was offered a place in the realm and a long term contract but more important the trust and he took it!
Our brave Mitch so hurt trying to slay the Dreaded Embiid and was pulled to the floor by the sloppy slobbering player. Hideous man is this giant who fights not with grace but with a clumsy manner not becoming a true king. The gods cruel to have froze part of his face1
At last, our Teutonic God who had the northern Germanic cunning mixed with the soul of a black man played like a man whose lifted wings that would carry our spirits, but unfortunately carry him a afar. He announced an heir to the House of Hartenstein, and the Lady Kortney to care for he was offered riches beyond what the Mecca could pay. His fans wept spleeny as he took his services to a new kingdom just 3 hours drive from where she too was born. The Thunder are a fine house and with such riches we bid him well, until he returns to the Mecca of course.
Gone was Jules of Randle who tried but could to return in strength. He tried valiantly but he failed.

It is a human trait to recall the past with fondness. WE long for the past and our heroes! With uncertainty about a future not known, we create memories to recall good things to cope. The fan cries "how can leave what's behind if I don't know thy future"!

Are we entertained? Yes, what is here before us is an unknown future. We look forward with hope and new adventures!

ha awesome

I didn't even make it past bolded. Nalod meds kicked in last night! Wild stuff love it

Excitement can be judged in different ways, but this year's team has more talent, hence why it isn't as exciting yet, due to chemistry gelling and record. However, a lot of last year's excitement was due to unforeseen success and laying above expectations. No one expected DDV to break the 3pt record for the team and finish top 3 in the NBA. Or iHart to take a big step forward and why he is gone this season. They succeeded despite playing 6 or 7 deep sometimes. But, what these Knicks have done the past 3 games is moving to that excitement level and will pass it, especially when Precious, Mitch, and maybe a deadline move happen. I'd rather know my team is damn good and expected to win most nights, than the fight every night last year Knicks, who often fell behind due to talent only to win due to stamina and heart. Either way, love and appreciate both teams. LGK!!!
GustavBahler @ 11/19/2024 7:09 PM
A bit soon, but as of now I’m more entertained by this year’s team because of KAT. I was against the trade because I thought that Towns was going to play like he did in Minny. A softer, more perimeter oriented player, than he is now. Was saying for years before the trade, years before Gobert went to Minny, that KAT used to play more like we’re seeing now. Was not confident that he would play like that again. Happy to be wrong.

It was clear to many posters here that RJ/Randle/Brunson wasn’t working because they were too ball dominant. OG in the starting lineup (at the 4) is a much better fit. Bridges was an overpay, but he’s starting to hit his stride. Brunson is starting to play like a PG again, not just a scoring PG.

We still need more bench scoring, even after Precious gets back, but I’m guessing there will be deal at the first trade deadline.

martin @ 11/21/2024 11:39 AM
Definitely entertained last night, for the first half cause no way I could stay awake.

December could be last year's Jan
