Knicks · My Trade Deadline Shopping List (page 1)
2. Tari Eason (PF) - Basically a bigger version of Josh Hart.
3. Jay Huff (C) - A G league steal. Outside in Center with solid defensive chops.
4. GG Jackson (PF) - Big athletic PF on a low contract
5. Nick Richards (C) - Advanced stats galore
6. Herb Jones (SF) (Inj) - Two way player with DPOY wing skills
7. Taylor Hendricks (PF) (Inj) Young PF with two way potential
8. JJJ (PF) - Former DPOY that would fit perfect next to KAT
9. Walker Kessler (C) - Cheaper younger Mitch like player
10. Cam Whitmore (SF) - athletic SF getting lost in the Hou depth charts.
I want Toumani Camara. Combo forward who can defend well and shoot a little on a super cheap longterm contract. He would be a solid missing bench piece. Portland shouldn’t trade him but maybe they want future second rounders.

Good candidate. I’m checking him out. Big steals in low minutes.
I don't like this one personally, but after watching the Wiz game and looking at the trade checked, Mitch+Sims+the Washington 1 for Valanciunas and Kispert works under the cap and maybe makes some sense. Though its very defense for offense....

He looks like someone without a lot of 3 and D potential. Is he starting over Deni right now?
BTW I might be off on the Kispert above as he has a poison pill. NOt sure the RealGM trade checker is considering that properly.
I'd guess that Coulibaly, GG Jackson, JJJ, Walker Kessler are really not attainable for one reason or the other. Hendricks is out for the year?
As strange as it sounds, I don't think the Knicks need a backup C any more. KAT is going to eat a lot of those minutes and Sims/Huk are probably all that Thibs needs this year, and then next year will sort itself out with vet min guys.
I'm trying to guess which guys on the roster are core guys and which are tradable. Core: KAT, Brunson, Mikal, OG, Hart, Deuce. My thought is that Deuce only goes out if you are attaching him to Mitch and get a REALLY good player back; on the list below, only JJJ type player and fit would qualify. I think it would have to be at that caliber?
My line of thinking on what the FO is doing: KAT and Brunson are your engines. Do they have enough to back them up? I think the Knicks are solid at C minutes and semi OK with Kolek, Deuce, vet min like Payne at PG. After that it's wing defender spacers that they rotate through and they need guys who are on the big wing side of things.
Eason, Herb Jones types. A downhill slasher - Randle lite - who is bigger than Josh with a good handle would be another archetype.
Must be able to play D at the level Thibs trusts. Must be either a solid spacer or slasher with good handles. Non sticky player.

Never say never! I love the DFS idea. He has a player option, so this is the perfect scenario to trade for him. If Finney-Smaith is a CAA guy, I'd up the odds! But he would have to take a major cut next year (or opt in) and almost make a promise on that contract for the Knicks to trade for him.

this is my thimking. there are a lot of good ideas in this thread but i'm thinking we want size and higher quality. Not more of what we have but probably less good
If we got JJJ or some other quality PF type we could have a quality big line up which could come in handy in playoffs, e.g., against Cavs, Celts, even Philly. it also plays into a key Thibs theme of more possessions from outrebounding opponent. Wouldn't we rather see JJJ playing with KAT than Mitch playing with KAT when we match up against Cavs.
OG is doing great handling the 4 but at the 3 we would be a load.
edit: i don't want to include Deuce in the package if avoidable.

With only Mitch and perhaps Precious to trade (if you holding Deuce back), you are only getting the Tobias Harris level of JJJ in return?
Only player I would even consider parting with would be Bridges if the return was for a better fit and I can't think of any that are realistic. If KAT improves his rim protection then I would be more open to seeing what Mitch could net us... but that is unlikely so we need Mitch as defense still needs to be our identity.

it would depend on the target but we need deuce's on ball D and shooting a lot. i'd be more willing to include Payne or if the target was good enough even Paco
we're going to need rebounding and size in playoffs when things slow down

Why would you trade for him though? He plays the same as KAT and when it counts, he is about as useful as Huk, Sims at much more cost?
During playoffs, his usage wouldn't be worth the cost?

I don't want to say that this list is supposed to be bargain basement hunting, but there is a certain element of that. Bang for the buck. Between KAT, OG, Mikal and Brunson, there isn't a lot of salary cap left to fill in the roster. Even on a 4 year look forward. So, most of these guys are 23 or less, rookie contracts for a few years. Jones and JJJ are exceptions due to the DPOY chops and near perfect fit for the roster. But JJJ is on a decreasing contract for another year.
Another common element is that nearly all of these guys have exceptional wingspan (or if average, they have exceptional athleticism). Seems like the trend in the league is to put a 7'+ wingspan defender on the ball handler.
I don't think we really have room to add another star talent at full price. But these guys are a little raw but big wingspans, athleticism and motors that I'd be trying to pry loose if I could.

Yes he is surprisingly. But he’s been playing well. Maybe not gettable for less than a good first round pick. I’d still poke around. We have stolen a good wing from the blazers not long ago.

Only negative I found in his stat line is that he has among the highest turnover percentage in the league.
Before the emergence of Huk, would have agreed that we needed help in the frontcourt, but now I’d say we need a real 2nd unit scoring threat in the backcourt. Not sure who the FO should pursue though.

We have no offensive bigs behind KAT. Its insurance depth and strengthens the scoring for the bench unit.
But practically speaking there are only a handful of players making less than Mitch - and to salary match and not go over apron 2 - those are the puzzle pieces to make a trade work. I.e Mitch + a 3mm salary guy = Jonas + another decent depth piece potentially.

Good thread...I was thinking about starting a thread about Cam Whitmore; an athletic, young wing that's not getting any burn becuase he's stuck behind other, young wings. Maybe he's available for the right package? He's a 'Nova guy too...
We could use more athleticism and interior defense. JJJ would be perfect, but no way do I see Memphis making him available. The only guys on your list that may be gettable are: Herb Jones, Richards, and maybe Whitmore. Herb Jones is the best of the available players. Like I said, I prefer an atheletic, tall wing, but Jones is that good on the defensive end and shooting 41% from 3 last year (on only 3.6 attempts though), makes it tempting.
