4. GG Jackson (PF) - Big athletic PF on a low contract
5. Nick Richards (C) - Advanced stats galore
6. Herb Jones (SF) (Inj) - Two way player with DPOY wing skills
7. Taylor Hendricks (PF) (Inj) Young PF with two way potential
8. JJJ (PF) - Former DPOY that would fit perfect next to KAT
9. Walker Kessler (C) - Cheaper younger Mitch like player
10. Cam Whitmore (SF) - athletic SF getting lost in the Hou depth charts.
Good thread...I was thinking about starting a thread about Cam Whitmore; an athletic, young wing that's not getting any burn becuase he's stuck behind other, young wings. Maybe he's available for the right package? He's a 'Nova guy too...
We could use more athleticism and interior defense. JJJ would be perfect, but no way do I see Memphis making him available. The only guys on your list that may be gettable are: Herb Jones, Richards, and maybe Whitmore. Herb Jones is the best of the available players. Like I said, I prefer an atheletic, tall wing, but Jones is that good on the defensive end and shooting 41% from 3 last year (on only 3.6 attempts though), makes it tempting.

Herb Jones has length instead of height. Still pushing 7’ wingspan. I see him as most likely.

I think we need some instant offense in the backcourt, someone who gets to the rim, gets to the line. Kolek looks like he needs to get himself in NBA shape, Deuce does most of his damage from the perimeter. Before the emergence of Huk, would have agreed that we needed help in the frontcourt, but now I’d say we need a real 2nd unit scoring threat in the backcourt. Not sure who the FO should pursue though.
I think this list stems from the missing center conversations and the idea that pushing OG and Bridges to SF and SG respectively creates positional size advantage. Hart is playing out of his mind good basketball which speaks against the need for any changes, but in theory, Hart would be replaced with a natural PF. So, missing guards is kind of on purpose.
There is a little bit of redundancy in the list - guys that could step in and replace existing players in case of emergency.
My guard list is - Colin Sexton. That is all. But if Brunson went down, Sexton is the only player I really think could step in for him.
Begs the question which other NBA players are most similar to what we have currently?

Last season I was ridiculed for advocating for Tari Eason. Don't know if we have what it takes to acquire him. But honestly I think in a another season Dadiet will be that type of player off the bench. With Mitch and Precious returning and maybe Shamet our bench will be loaded. Our bench with Precious,Mitch, Simms, Hukporti suddenly becomes deep at the 5. With Precious, Dadiet and Shamet will be covered at the forwards. Deuce, Payne Kollack, Shamet covers us at the guards. So unless we get a wing for Mitch who can play 3/4 we stand pat.

Not by me. Last season he was injured and most complaints were about his injury history. I believe the Knicks tried to acquire him. But many of us had him as our #11 pick in the draft. He’s an absolute beast that is happy in the 6 man role. That said, we are looking at different things in Dadiet. I see a softer player like Gallinari in Dadiet. Not a big motor big wingspan firecracker. I think the Bigger Josh Hart is more appropriate.
Having Payne back made a huge difference. Despite Duece going down.
Like the small adjustment suggestions like Eason.
Speaking of Nets..

Not a bad list I'd be down for #s 1, 2, 6, 9 & 10 --- know less about other guys.
Two kids that defend the hell out of the ball are Dyson Daniels (LOVE HIM) and Camara (spelling?) on Portland (LOVE HIM).

THIS +1 on Camara --- kid defends all the way up the floor - was excellent against Shae last night though refs blowing whistle all game
Watching Portland early this year and they are actually oozing with some young talent --- Clingan, Scoot, Camara (defensively), Demi Avdjia, Robert Williams plus they have scorers like Sharpe, Grant, Simons, Ayton -- they are fun to watch.
Wouldn't mind any of Avdjia, Williams or Simons.

He looks like someone without a lot of 3 and D potential. Is he starting over Deni right now?
It looks like he is - 14 & 9 last night in 38 minutes and guarded Shae all night long - excellent defender (reminds me a bit of young A Roberson) but with better looking shot (left hander)

You had me at left hander! He made for the Knicks!

Something got to shake loose with Portland. They got too many centers too.
martin wrote:Great list.I'd guess that Coulibaly, GG Jackson, JJJ, Walker Kessler are really not attainable for one reason or the other. Hendricks is out for the year?
As strange as it sounds, I don't think the Knicks need a backup C any more. KAT is going to eat a lot of those minutes and Sims/Huk are probably all that Thibs needs this year, and then next year will sort itself out with vet min guys.
I'm trying to guess which guys on the roster are core guys and which are tradable. Core: KAT, Brunson, Mikal, OG, Hart, Deuce. My thought is that Deuce only goes out if you are attaching him to Mitch and get a REALLY good player back; on the list below, only JJJ type player and fit would qualify. I think it would have to be at that caliber?
My line of thinking on what the FO is doing: KAT and Brunson are your engines. Do they have enough to back them up? I think the Knicks are solid at C minutes and semi OK with Kolek, Deuce, vet min like Payne at PG. After that it's wing defender spacers that they rotate through and they need guys who are on the big wing side of things.
Eason, Herb Jones types. A downhill slasher - Randle lite - who is bigger than Josh with a good handle would be another archetype.
Must be able to play D at the level Thibs trusts. Must be either a solid spacer or slasher with good handles. Non sticky player.

Responding to Martin - I do think Kessler is available. Eason has been in my mind as well - he's definitely down hill with the ball and lots of energy on D but he is a little sloppy with TOs if I remember correctly.
Houston is interesting because you've got to wonder if they want to move off one of their wings -- maybe for an upgrade defensively at center. They've got J Smith, D Brooks, T Eason, A Thompson and Cam Whitmore all fighting for minutes. Last night Eason/Whitmore/Thompson played a combined 45 minutes (15 each).

For me, Kessler is not attainable and not worth it from an asset perspective. He would be great on the Knicks but the Knicks got that covered and it wouldn't be a good use of tradable assets.
Ainge would want picks and/or rookies contract types back, he would take Deuce and a pick(s) but the Knicks really not doing that and we don't got picks. And, we got Sims and Huk, so Kessler isn't really moving the needle?

He plays the same as KAT and when it counts, he is about as useful as Huk, Sims at much more cost?
During playoffs, his usage wouldn't be worth the cost?
I don't see Jonas Val as a fit here - too slow afoot.
For me it comes down to a really solid ball handler who can get in paint when Brunson is on bench or injured OR a bigger legit defensive wing that adds to our overall ability to stop the dribble.

Yeah they LOVE Bilal and he ain't going nowhere any time soon.
I hope Wiz add one of either Cooper Flag or Ace Baily, just so that their 2026 pick can transfer to Knicks

Eason only makes $3.7M (right now) any chance at a deal for him would probably have to include Mitch/Deuce/pick - maybe for Eason/Adams which works in trade checker.

Yes too many centers. I've always liked Ayton when others have said I'm crazy and NOW FINALLY I think I realize he just may not give a crap about winning.
Robert Williams was moving ok last night but he didn't look like anything special (good passer though which would fit nicely with our guys and he'd probably be good switching against Boston (where Mitch may not).
Portland would probably love to move Ayton but doesn't seem anyone wants to touch him - especially after snow day last year.
Simons is intriguing as a guy that can get where he wants off dribble but also shoot from distance and potentially play with Brunson occasionally BUT doesn't help defensively and likely no workable trade since Portland won't want Mitch
Continued Sims improvement is essential, along with Huck and Precious if we need to move Mitch for a guard/wing upgrade.
