Knicks · My Trade Deadline Shopping List (page 3)

THIS +1 on Camara --- kid defends all the way up the floor - was excellent against Shae last night though refs blowing whistle all game
Watching Portland early this year and they are actually oozing with some young talent --- Clingan, Scoot, Camara (defensively), Demi Avdjia, Robert Williams plus they have scorers like Sharpe, Grant, Simons, Ayton -- they are fun to watch.
Wouldn't mind any of Avdjia, Williams or Simons.
Something got to shake loose with Portland. They got too many centers too.
Yes too many centers. I've always liked Ayton when others have said I'm crazy and NOW FINALLY I think I realize he just may not give a crap about winning.
Robert Williams was moving ok last night but he didn't look like anything special (good passer though which would fit nicely with our guys and he'd probably be good switching against Boston (where Mitch may not).
Portland would probably love to move Ayton but doesn't seem anyone wants to touch him - especially after snow day last year.
Simons is intriguing as a guy that can get where he wants off dribble but also shoot from distance and potentially play with Brunson occasionally BUT doesn't help defensively and likely no workable trade since Portland won't want Mitch
Continued Sims improvement is essential, along with Huck and Precious if we need to move Mitch for a guard/wing upgrade.
He looked great last year. Showed some handle and passing.
Too injured? Yeah, so why would another team trade for him?
Tari Eason? He was out much of last year. When he showed what he could do, his price went up.
then he got hurt. Then we turned the roster over. Sure he'd be a great fit off the bench, but so would Josh Hart.
We at the critical mass were plugging one hole creates another? We are salary constrained. Patience also means letting bench talent develop as contributors or as trade assets. There could be buy outs. At some point Bojan returns from injury and if Nets are tanking perhaps he is set free.
Nola injury situation is fucked up. I love Mitch there for Herb Jones but with Mitches history I'd think they be gun shy. I love Brandon Ingram as our two but Nalod has no logical thoughts to his salary this year. He is 5 years removed from his blood disorder/blood clot but what is the long effects of his meds?
He misses chunks of each season. He is an elite scorer but at 27 years old I see him as more a Caris Levert. He too has had health issues but could be a bench player that can start when needed. Levert makes 16mm. Ingram makes 36mm now. On my wish list but no path.
Knicks usually look for value on rising talent. Ingram on the down side but at some low price might be a fit. He is free agent after this year. Players sometimes face cold markets. Thus Jones, DDV, and Kelly Oubre Jr are such examples. They play for a one year (two year with player option) and make good for a better deal. DDV signed with GSW for about 4mm and left after a year opting out. Ingram might face a cold market. As knick he'd have to play off bench but given an opportunity to start if he plays defense? Its the Thibian way.
Precious is on one year 6mm deal. Im not as high on him as some are but he keeps proving me wrong. Im expecting a slow start given his time off. His minutes will be a relief. Perhaps after this road trip he returns?

Having Payne back made a huge difference. Despite Duece going down.Like the small adjustment suggestions like Eason.
Speaking of Nets..

Netsbsaid they need more of our picks.
Bridges for Thomas?
Duop Reath flashed a lot of interesting skills last year and is buried there. He can potentially be swiped (or they are just waiting to unload everyone else in front of him).

I haven't had a chance to watch Portland but I read that the team just plays better and the ball moves more freely without Ayton. For better or worse I guess.

Would love Timelord. He's very fast off the floor. (BTW saw Deuce coaching Siims up on this point. More important to be quick off the floor than to load up for a 44" vertical)
That said, i would prefer an upgrade at PF so KAT can stay at 5 and we'd have a big lineup (at least situationally) for the playoffs where we'll need it against Cavs and probably Celts
Then the injuries' keep piling up. He still gets an extension after the chip but you think "Really"?
Cam Thomas looks like that.
But Kyle Lowrey looked like that for years and years.
Windhorst interviewed a dude that wrote a book on Jokic and said Nuggs were close a deal with SAC for the 2nd pick when they took Luka. They did not want to include Murray.
To their credit they do have a chip. But its interesting to think!

Mitch is so tricky.
- Yes - he could come in and be in great shape and really help our D and rebounding
- he could also go down with another injury 2 weeks after returning and now we don't have him or the ability to trade him
- he could also muck up the offensive efficiency we are starting to build
- a big issue with Mitch is does he fit and help vs Boston (I tend to think he's not a great fit because his mobility isn't what it was)
If Mitch plays with Kat now we have Kat/Mitch chasing Boston around on perimeter
If Mitch plays without Kat now we lose Kat offense
I tend to think (at least for Boston) if we could move Mitch for a player that could bring us some of what Holiday/White bring to Boston.
Not saying someone as good as but at least another player who can play on the ball, defend and make some shots. Another guard/wing that can play with/without Brunson and add perimeter value and D.

Yes a healthy Timelord would be disruptive against Boston because of his ability to defend perimeter and rim (passing as you noted).
Tough part (aside from injury history) is would Portland want Mitch? Maybe they would to play with Clingan and move off Ayton. Don't think we have $ to match for Williams without Mitch going out (3 way maybe)

As I was watching Portland I was really impressed with their young parts and realized that's where Mike Schmitz for draft guru from ESPN got hired a few years ago (he looks like he's finding some solid pieces out there)

The knock on Murray out of Kentucky was athleticism.
He was brilliant for a few years despite being an average athlete BUT now post 1 or 2 major injuries he's just not moving the same. His game is herky jerky and requires a ton of movement and foot/ball fakes to get to his spots. Denver was in tough spot and now you have to wonder if he will be same great player again.
Cam Thomas is strong as an bull I see him scoring as an old man.
Lowry is amazing how long he has kept going - even though now a shell of himself. I wanted him for Knicks out of Nova and was always wanting him back in his Houston Rocket days. He was such a dog who got better with age and kept his quickness up until last few years.
Some of these vets you go to their stats page and the page goes on forever (12, 14, 15 years) - amazing bodies.

Who is out there that is skilled/smart and willing to be a bench contributor BUT also maybe be on the floor at end of games? Also someone we can match salary on and who Thibs will play.
A guy I've wondered about is Kevin Heurter (New York / Maryland) guy 6'6" - defends, some handle, solid shooter (though bad post seasons thus far) and unselfish. Another is Bruce Brown. Spencer Dinwiddie (sometimes a big game player). Hawks Bogdonavich? A Dosumo or K White off Bulls.
I don't trust Brogdon anymore --- think he's lost a step and was never the best athlete. Clarkson could be interesting because while he's inefficient he's creative and attacks the lane (surrounded by better structure he could be big in key spots).
It's fun to speculate but maybe Knicks aren't planning on any moves --- me I think we need another versatile & legit player.

And that means you can find someone with Precious, Mitch, whatever salaries and do something different with that player.

He’s the same as Mitch but I don’t think he’s as good. The only positive is he makes slightly less money. So basically a slightly lesser player for slightly less money.
