Knicks · Should we freak out about Bridges? (page 18)

If he does that this summer, with his mid-range game, he can be a more consistent scorer for us. We only need him to score maybe 18 points, but we need a consistent 18 points. Clearly though he has improved his defensive focus in these playoffs. We still gave up probably one too many first rounders for him, but if we get past Boston, then I don't think anyone can complain.

He and Josh, the whole summer, just bosom buddies doing shots

Not sure why he changed his shot but I agree, he needs to fine tune it this off season. Also the NETS forced us to overpay for bridges. That was the only way they would trade with us. But if we forget the picks, Mikal fits like a glove. Just like Miami 3 banana boat stars, the 3rd star has to change their game for this to work. I believe he’s finding his swim lane as we speak.

I thought it was deuce who was the key player we need to beat Boston but it may be Mikal.

My understanding is that the Grizzlies were offering 4 first rounders too. Knicks needed the extra picks to basically have the best offer. Knicks saw a guy who could be top tier wing defender and someone who could be a legitimate 2nd or 3rd option offensively and add some isolation cover for Brunson who had built in chemistry with the roster. It wasn't any secret that the Nova trio had been lobbying all year to rescue him from Brooklyn. It made perfect sense that they saw him as a missing piece and wanted to go all out to get him.

The pick costs may be annoying, but the thing to be concerned with is this - he is extension eligible this offseason and he is the one of the more pivotal moveable pieces for the roster. Either you commit to more money or years because your confident of the fit, or this is the inflection point to decide whether or not you think he's the right guy or should you trade him. We're seeing the Wing Stop defensive formation finally come to fruition. The offensive chemistry is there in spurts. This is literally the moment and team we acquired him for - the idea of 2 lengthy wing defenders was a direct response to Boston's lineup. Let's see how it plays out!

Exactly but with more cleavage around

they added a LOT of playoff experience also. KAT coming off conference finals, Mikal has been there also.

Feels like game2 is almost a bigger test for Knicks. Lets see how they deal with Boston's response (shoot 80 3s next time)

If Boston takes 80 I expect them to make 40 tonight. Its not an easy task ahead of us and we know they will get hot - even on tough shots. I do think we did a good job of forcing tougher ones. The best we can do is not give them easy pick and pops and open corner looks. They are not gonna stop shooting and they are as good as it gets in the league and hunting/making them. We also have to be aggressive and continue to take them on our side. We probably can't match their volume but we have to be in a place where we're in a position to be within a realm of relevance. We took enough last time to make more than them (lots of misses from Boston and a higher than usual rate for us - so may need to up the volume even more).

what was the stat? I believe it was 45 out of 60 were wide open shots? We were just lucky they were off.

I had never heard Legs or anyone else talk about the "wide open shots" tracking data before. Interesting listen and perspective.

It didn't look wide open to me seeing it in real time. They did take a lot so of course that number is going to jump out at you but I thought we played decent 3pt defense overall.

The whole of Boston is freaking out
TheGame @ 5/7/2025 9:31 PM
Now that game was worth 5 1st round picks!!!!
GustavBahler @ 5/7/2025 9:31 PM
We should freak out about the two game winning stops by Bridges. Wow.

He beat them fair and square. Pay the man his money.

VDesai @ 5/7/2025 9:48 PM
Freaking out in the best way
BigDaddyG @ 5/7/2025 9:50 PM
The only thing I feel bad about is underpaying Brooklyn for Bridges by about 8 picks.

Yep, we traded a bunch of 13, 14, and 15 year olds for Bridges.

Weird stat

Philc1 @ 5/7/2025 10:36 PM
Hit big shots down the stretch and blocked Tatum on that last Celtics possession. Sorry guys I am freaking out.

Not only that his defense the entire game was money.

SupremeCommander @ 5/8/2025 9:37 AM
This thread deserves to be locked up, the way Bridges locked up games 1 and 2 🔐

I would have paid 25 first round picks for the types of wins we got this week

Fuck the Celtics

Thank Bridges

Moderators, please lock this dumb asinine bullshit up

Last night Bridges showed me what I thought he did not have in him.
Don’t care about season stats. Don’t care about players that have done things in other cities.
I want Dawgs that show up for NY when it counts.
Bridges showed me last night that he is that!!
