The NBA hand-checking rule prohibits defensive players from making contact with offensive players using their hands or forearms, except below the extended free-throw line. Hand-checking is considered a personal foul and is called when a defensive player's contact impedes the offensive player's movement, speed, rhythm, or balance
Just trying to understand how the nba doesn’t actually change rules, they just decide to stop enforcing them. Hand checking is just one of those rules still on the books but now open to interpretation. Others include traveling, carrying the ball and gather which I guess is not called a euro step.
This gives the refs the ability to give certain players and/or teams an advantage. I’m only complaining here obviously because the Knicks always tend to be on the short end of the stick.
Enforcing traveling and carrying the ball really slows the game down making it practically unwatchable - but - certain players should get atleast one of two violations a game but never do. You could literally call traveling or palming on every hesitation dribble.
The hand checking is another story especially when you are impeding a player every time they touch the ball

Brunson is a ‘floppy’ player. And for whatever reason, that is being held against him, which is totally unfair and I worry about the little guy getting hurt.
I remember Cuban constantly lobbying with video tape to the NBA office. I hope the Knicks do something similar because.

Kat is 15th. Did not see where he was. His avg from last year from 4.7 per to 5.9 per. Big jump but I'd guess he touching and shooting the ball more this year.
We do know Refs are calling less fouls this season.
Hand checking rules went into effect in 1979. It was enforced greater in 1995. It was banned in 2005.
NBA refs since the beginning of time interpret differently. Is it fair? Of course not.
So some players create more contact than others? Sure. Brunson herkey jerky style does create more. I think He is getting hit more this year but so are many others.
Embiid is like the king but his games played might not tell the full story.

I don't watch many other games of other Allstar guards and if they getting raped and mauled also.
every layup that KAT goes for he seemingly is looking for the call. Same for Jalen. Although I do admit they seem to be less whiney about it as the season goes on.

If they really wanna tinker with the gameplay and make it a little more interesting, I think one change could be making the court a little bigger. Especially the baseline. It will eliminate the easy corner 3s that teams hunt for and it will also eliminate the turnovers with guys stepping out of bounce. Make the baseline 3 the same distance as the wing and top of the key 3.
Stop with the coaches challenge or checking to see if a hard play was a flagrant. Coaches challenges should only be 1 per game and can it only be used in the 4th quarter. All plays under 2 minutes that are iffy should be replayed and checked by the zebras and that command center.
Also, have teams play each other back to back like a mini series kind of like in baseball. It will help with fatigue with less travel and teams do play harder against their rivals.
Start fining teams and taking away their draft picks if they are proven to purposely sit out players. "Load management" is not an excuse and not an injury.
Lastly, make the NBA Cup more rewarding and (I can't believe I'm suggesting this!) but cancel the NBA Draft lottery. All teams that do not make the playoffs get an equal chance (about 14%) at the first 5-7 picks.

what was the net effect of hand checking? It intensified defense. What does intense defense do? Reduce scoring.
The games were slugfests and ratings suffered. Im not saying there are many fans that are turned off by good defense, but the NBA is in the entertainment business and when they basically went away from it, scoring went up.
They are doing some "Mini series" doing back to back. knicks play at washington twice later this month. Obviously in division type games where they play 4x. Not sure how many but aggregate helps.
They are also doing more geographically friendly road trips for teams. Example is NY-bkn. Chicago-Milwaukee, GSW-Sac.....etc. this to reduce travel times making it easier. Not perfect, but they are addressing it.

They are fining teams, I think up to $100,000. The rule of 65% of games played as a threshold is to lower salaries and awards to players who don't meet it.
I agree with incentives to get players on the court. It cheats the fans. Especially road games.
As for dimensions of the court? Its an interesting concept.
I really wish hand checking was allowed. I hate how the game is physical everywhere except the perimeter and teams aspire to chuck 75 3s a game
