I rather have Warren on the bench. He can definitely contribute much more thanb Ryan or Didiet. He could give us at least 10 minutes a night or possibly more on some nights. Probably some money issue that is keeping him in the League, Hopefully he and Shamet will be up at some point and strengthen the bench
I think the Knicks agree, but the fact that he is a veteran and we are limited by the cap hurts us. I do wonder if at some point of the season it does become possible.

Its weird the NBA union agreed to their current deal. Vets like Warren due to the vet min for a player with Warrens years of service is less desirable to teams or even impossible to sign for some due to cap space, so the vet has to play in the minor league where they make less money then the vet min.

My understanding is the last iteration of the union was made up with guys who were in the max salary territory and they shaded towards favoring those type of players. And it shows.
Agree 110%!
Especially Warren over Ryan cause we don't need Ryan's skillset. Warren can score and spell OG/Hart/Mikal for 10-12 mpg.
This is a Brock Aller puzzle to solve. 500K of room under the 2nd apron. Apparently no math to have more than 1 of Shamet and Warren on the roster (I think we can keep Ryan on a 2 way).
At some point there will be a wing injury and we will need Warren or Shamet to play and Warren has way better size, and he has been a passable 3 point shooter.

They must be thinking about it. There is not reason TJ Warren would be in the Knicks GLeague for this long. Maybe he is just trying to rehab his career but I'd guess he had some sort of semi promise and was told to just wait until Feb or when something happens?

I feel like Shamet got the promise and we gave Warren an opportunity to re-ignite his career. He hasn't been able to establish himself on a team after his injury, so maybe he is done, or maybe he finally feels healthy and confident. He was a way bigger NBA question mark than Shamet or even Marcus Morris who we were considering early.
I'm definitely not letting Dadiet go in favor of TJ. Dadiet is a big wing who could conceivably play both forward spots and fill multiple check marks off the bench. Big wings are the thing now and this roster needs young talent. Now I agree with Warren over Ryan and possible Shamet. Shamet is more of luxury considering they already have Deuce and Cam. Shamet does a decent job guarding guys his size, but he won't be able to guard the big or even medium sized wings. I'd say free up space by trading Sims, but it's tough considering the team can't take in more salary than it brings in. It's probably wait and see until they make a decision on Mitch.

I'm not letting go of Dadiet either. Dadiet really needs to play every day in the g league to improve. Dadiet playing only in blowouts is not doing him any favors. He really doesn't look great out there and needs consistent time on the court to improve. Warren looks like an NBA player down there and I'm sure he would be an improvement on this team and if Thibs let him, he can give some of our starters a breather here and there.
Is his vet minimum salary prorated over the season? If so there might be time, like right before the playoff rosters get set to bring him on.
As far as depth goes, Dadiet should be a reminder that the Knicks are OK. On most teams the coach would be relying on him for minutes but as far as New York goes he's been a developmental luxury.
Bobby Marks and the beat guys have all repeated that March 2 is the earliest the Knicks can sign a vet min guy as the 15 guy cause of their current cap situation. I’d guess it’s a pure math thing to keep below 2nd apron.
I think it’s the reason we also see Jericho’s name floated as a trade possibility, move him and you gain spot for TJ Warren as early as possible.
And yeah, Dadiet not getting any real minutes this year and I’d guess that everyone AOK with that, including Dadiet. He just not ready but he sure looks to have some type of special abilities.
We shall see.

Knicks 3 wings are all top ten for minutes played. I don't think the chemistry has really been there for this team until the last week or so with comeback wins against the Pelicans and Spurs. Hopefully as the chemistry improves, Thibs can give those guys some more time off during the games. For now Thibs is rightfully doing his best to get that starting 5 into one of the top lineups in the league

Oh for sure. Just meant to say that Dadiet really not ready for prime time inclusion outside of garbage minutes.
I'd guess Shamet and maybe after trade deadline TJ Warren will get those wing minutes but who knows.
have to go back and read up on Dadiet saying he'd come, but not JUST to play on Gleague. Its not just ego, Deuce was similar.
They want to develop on the bench. Knicks know what they are doing. Not saying he makes it, its always a risk. This is not Keven Knox again. Its always different.
Dadiet got his chance very early and and it measured him.
Warren has the highest ceiling and its no fan intuition, its thathe has done it.
What don't we know? His injury history what was the plan when he got here? Play Gleague, show he is healthy and can sustain? What is the issue that he has to prove durability?
Knicks by show of his play don't want to bring him up, then have him in and out due to injury. So we just don't know.
not logical on the surface he is not with knicks.
Also, the is his defense. We know he can shoot, but Thibian ball has two sides to it. Not saying he is Josh, Mikal or OG by any stretch. But he has to demonstrate some acceptable level. Maybe thats part of it? Don' know.
Josh, OG and Mikal have been mostly free form injury. Odds are there is contingency play. Be curious what that is should it be.

Which he are you talking about at the end Warren or Dadiet ?
TJ Warren is an interesting guy. Sure he can be making more in Europe or China then in the G League. But Warren is a millionaire already and I'm wondering if besides trying to raise his value, if he is just playing for the love of the game. How many people say they would play for the love of the game if they could and Warren is doing it. He makes about 45k for the season so that's something but is he living out the pleasure of being among the best players on the court this season in the G league.

I think that is part of it, and I want to go even a bit further and say that Warren has said that himself to a certain degree.
But I'd guess his end goal is to wait on the Knicks and trade deadline and see if there would be cap space.
He has never played more than 65 games and at just 31 years old he has not played much the last 4 years dues to injury.]
https://www.basketball-reference.com/pla...The love of the game, the love of money, or what ever, he has made some $60,000,000 career earnings and over seas you get hurt, they cut your ass.
His injuries have been vast and perhaps taking a long view is his best shot of returning and staying on the court. Mostly feet and ankle issues.
Im guessing as I have not read anything much about him other than he keeps trying.
As for the money, the fit, the defense, the love, what ever, its all just a guess. He is bonafide NBA talent and is not that old. Hope it all works out for him, Shamet, and Mitch!

Didn't realize he played for Minnesota last season. Maybe KAT put in a good word? It takes time for some guys to reinvent their games one the athleticism starts to slip. Alec Burks is a good example. He's talked about having to redefine his game after ankle surgery from a slasher to
a midrange maestro and three-point marksman. The organization saw something in TJ to keep him around.
