Knicks · Knicks need an Aaron Wiggins (page 1)

Knixkik @ 1/3/2025 10:22 PM
We see how he made all the difference in this game. Difference between a win and loss. Okc has Aaron Wiggins and the Knicks have Landry Shamet. We are a contender but we need that type of guy to win a title. Having a bench guy in that early 4th quarter when Brunson sits. A game like this doesn’t matter in terms of overall season, but it tells us what is needed in some ways. We need to find that missing bench X-factor.

The way you get a Wiggins is by giving your bench guys a chance…

Thibs needs to be flexible and give guys so time so they can get some experience….we have been in games up by 20…challenge your young guys to hold the lead….

Thibs might not play him more than 10mins…
BigDaddyG @ 1/3/2025 11:20 PM
Wiggins has had extended periods where he's been stuck on the bench in OKC too. He's streaky. That said, we do need a minutes water at the wing position. It could even be TJ Warren. I think we're fooling ourselves if we don't think fatigue played a factor. I just don't know it it's something that can be addressed in time for the playoffs.

This!

We have 15 to 20 point leads every game. Why not develop Pacom, Kolek and Hulk?

Come end of year, the injuries will happen (again.)
And it don’t matter if we don’t practice, the players are gassed in the 4th and we all see it (again.)

DLeethal @ 1/4/2025 8:26 AM
Both are true. We need a better bench and Thibs needs to develop his bench better as a unit. But as fun as Payne is he shouldn't be playing every night on a contender and we have no backup wing over 6'4. We need better horses, Thibs needs to develop the unit, and we missed Deuce who can play 25-30 mins and spell everybody a few more mins rest.
nycericanguy @ 1/4/2025 8:37 AM
We have one, Deuce. Wiggins is a bench player that went off, it happens. Deuce has gone off many times.
SergioNYK @ 1/4/2025 9:52 AM
Hopefully Pacome can be this next season.
Alpha1971 @ 1/4/2025 10:50 AM
Hopefully Warren will come onboard in March

We can’t do that since teams can get back on the game with the three, so that’s why you can’t rest your starters and use that ridiculous concept called “a bench”.

Think Knicks already have guys like Wiggins. Unfortunately, as we all know, it takes a while for Thibs to trust them for game minutes. May be one of the things Thibs can improve on.
Developing youngins despite losing a game or two more a year.
Think a the larger perspective sometimes escapes our future HOF coach.
Would also allow our main guys to stay healthy at the end of the year.

For the moment Shamet is our Wiggins.

Has Thibs not earned the benefit of the doubt? That we can honestly say we know better?
or we just venting after a loss.

Not venting after a loss. Considering it’s something known for a long time.
Knowing better has nothing to do with it or was ever implied.
Think we can all agree anything said on here is just an opinion in the void.
Thibs is a hall of fame coach.
However, Facts are Thibs likes a short rotation.
Likes his starters playing big minutes.
Two factors that can affect the low guys on the totem pole.
Is what it is. By no way am I saying bring back Kurt Rambis!
For most of us that wanted Thibs, we knew what he was and will stand by the results.
Pointing out possible desired improvements , should not imply anything else but that.
Only the perfect need not improve.

Shamet really isn’t very good and that’s the issue. We need a bench guy who is better.
