makes one wonder if Dallas considered Giannis for Luka

A Lillard/Doncic backcourt would be fun to watch. Like watching water flow through a sieve.
My "No" is more that a general disdain for Giannis. He clearly has a golden whistle. But he and Mitch would be horrible next to each other. Just bad team construction. I genuinely love the Brunson/Towns dynamic and the wings. I am happy with Hart. Only thing I would do here is move Hart for a PF for positional size advantage. Even then, it would have to be a serious upgrade. Like Hart and assets (which we don't have) for JJJ. Even then, I get the feeling the Brunson/Hart dynamic is the soul of this team. So, I am not even really pushing that. Feel like this is "our team" and want to add small parts to fill out the bench.
In summary Brunson/Bridges/OG/JJJ/KAT is my superteam. Not really looking to make moves other than this. And even here, meh. Happy with Hart.

The process was not public. Dallas might have called Milwaukee and asked.
Maybe Giannis was asked, and said not Dallas.
We don't know.
Here's another stupid hypothetical.
Assume the FO was hellbent on getting better this deadline. And they needed a serious piece of value to go out.
Obviously they aren't trading JB or KAT (who they just brought in) or Bridges (who they just traded 5 picks for (was it 6?)) or OG who they inked at $40m (is that contract even valuable? ).
That leaves Josh. As much as we all love Josh and he's the heart of the team, he's the only starter you could make a case for trading at this point (though a case COULD BE made to sooner trade Bridges). Assume it's Josh. What would it take to get in return that you'd be willing to trade him? Name a player.
Don't want to trade any starters. Let's start there. Round out the bench or leave it alone to cook
I think KAT is a better fit with Brunson.

There's not one player in the league you'd rather have than Josh Hart?

Let’s not make this about Hart but more about usage.
I want Brunson using 27% of possessions, roughly.
I want Towns using 25% of possessions, roughly.
I want Mikal using 20% of possessions, roughly.
I want OG using 18% of possessions roughly.
That’s leaves 10% usage for Hart or his replacement. Any more usage than 10% takes away from the above players. Can I steal some from OG, or others? Yeah, maybe. But if anything, I am trying to get them more usage by extending their minutes in the second unit.
So, who are you going to add to this lineup that can be as productive without the ball? There are a few, but it’s not much.
Gotta think of it as trading usage, not players. Who’s gonna add 10ish rebounds and 6ish assists without demanding shots - 10% usage or so? If you presume Mikal can pick up some of Hart’s activity with another 3&D young can expand to guys like Tari Eason and Herb Jones (IL), but no, can’t really replace Hart’s production without taking shots from your high efficiency players.
I’d make a move for JJJ. Not much else.

Its a fun hypo you bought up. He, like deuce play way above their salary making them good trade pieces for teams.
Make it easy, say a big guard. Money no issue? Since its "Stupid hypo" we can forget some details like salary cap and roster spots.
I'd go Anthony Edwards or Devon booker. Be fun to have Thibs make Edwards a "Thibidog". Booker great and scoring aside without the demands and salary all locked up might be fun to see some players round out applying energy into other areas to win. This is what makes Josh Hart special. Not a very common skill set. That he gets to demonstrate and refine it is fun. He is respected in the league by other players. He should, he outworks them! Such a great pairing. Right time, right place for him with the right coach. Dennis Rodman got to do his thing and carved an HOF career out of it. I don't see Josh at that level but its cool. He a modern Andre Iguodola.
Here are some names of very good/great non-Allstar wings/PFs. Tell me which ones you'd trade Josh for straight up, as you say disregarding salary/ contract.
Desmond Bane
Laurie Markkanen
Brandon Ingram
Franz Wagner
Jalen Williams
Benedict Mathurin
Scottie Brooks
JJJ
Miles Bridges
Aaron Gordon
Pascal Siakam
Cam Thomas

I understand your point and it’s compelling. Also, got to stay in the realm of reality. Josh Hart’s 17mm and our other filler isn’t bring back those guys. I picked out JJJ cause he makes 22m or so next year. Would I trade Hart for Lebron James. Yeah. Durant? yeah. Devin Booker? Yeah. But it’s not possible.
My point isn’t that Hart is the best player ant his size annd position. My point is to question whether are we maximizing player value or trying to win a championship? We adding talent or maintaining chemistry? We have two elite scorers, 2 elite wing stops and and 1 absolutely wild Swiss Army knife of a player that does all the blue collar stuff a team needs. You getting rid of the janitor or security guard to add another doctor at the hospital? No.
Hart is the janitor cleaning the boards, he’s the security guard looking out for Brunson. He’s the delivery man bringing the ball up. He’s the mail clerk dropping off passes. Not many players that can do all that. Who can you add in the 17m range to replace all that. He is literally the glue.
I think its stupid because starting a center, who's 100% going to be injured again at some point, is asking for failure.
