Knicks · Game Thread: Knicks at Spurs 8PM (page 3)
Whoever the color guy was, he made the game more unbearable to listen to than the Knicks. Uh, just need to keep everyone healthy for the playoffs.
And every team we play needs to have multiple injuries to key players.
on another note, it is painful to see Shamet's offence ! is he going to get out of this slump, or he is like that by default?
I am not saying he is going to play well. I have no idea because he never plays. We already know Cam is trash unless he is on that night. WHy not give the only PG behind Bruns on a legit chance to play. If he sinks or swims is up to him but to never give him a chance is coaching malpractice. Also the defense excuse does not play when the whole team was trash on defense except Mitch. We forget where we rank before Mitch came back? Yet somehow Kolek is the only one bad at defense so we can't give him a try. How good do you expect 3rd stringers to look on D? They never play. Come in cold for 1 minute vs players who could alreay be warmed up. Oh look at that, they did not play well.

I don't care what our overall record is. Like I was saying months ago when people did not agree with me because we were on a 9 game winning streak. Our record been pumped up on bad teams the whole season. Any team good or bad with a smart defensive strat gives us hell. No matter if we have Brunson or not. Any team that can hit the open shots Thibs will give them gives us hell no matter how good or bad they are.

When a key player is out, other guys need to step up.
OG shot 5-15
Deuce shot 4-14
Bridges 5-13
Knicks shot 29% from 3
Our PF scored 2 points.
But it was Thibs?
More concerned about highly counted on players inconsistency throughout the year. tbh.

Our team has a problem that it's filled with a bunch of players that need to be setup and only 2 players able to do the setting up. Brunson is out and Kolek is getting no time so we are going to stuggle to score. This is why I been calling for Kolek to get time when we was in the soft part of the sched. He could have been more than ready to help now. Instead we kept starters in up 30 and now he has no time under his belt when we need him most. That is also only on the offense. The overplay the paint and leave shooters open for 3 defense Thibs been playing for years no longer works. I been pointing this out since the Hawk playoff series.

Sure - key players need to step up. But I keep hearing Thibs stupid quote about why his wings play more than anyone else in the league - that they have to guard key players- that was not the case night. SA had no guys play nearly as much as our guys, and we got blown out.
Clearly, they are either tired or not good. Why not give Kolek time? What exactly was at stake last night? Margin of defeat? Game was over in the 1st quarter. Good coaches realize that, and that it’s a long season, and get their bench in.

Team was obviously fatigued. Hart mentioned it in the post game. Honestly don't like them admitting this cause it makes them look a little weak even though they are just being honest. This is where we also miss JB a ton cause it seems guys have acted a little out of line without him in the locker room. There is a reason why he was named Captain and why his voice and influence carries weight.
This game highlighted exactly what you get from KAT. A HOF offensive talent but a bottom of the barrel defender. NGL it's getting frustrating. He wasn't this bad at the start of the season. He played with way more effort and awareness imo. But he came out on fire and I thought he was on his way to 50 but then we hit that cold spurt and only scored 43 points in the first half. Hate to bash KAT after a 32 and 9 night but We fought back down 28 and cut it down to 8 but Vassell and Johnson hit some shots to break the momentum. And then that Sandro Mamaluke or whatever his name was took over and looked like Larry Bird. Never seen anything like that. Craziest game by an unknown scrub I think ever. Most points scored in under 20 minutes in NBA history with 34 in 19 minutes!

I like Kolek. Feel he will be a valuable roster player.
However, we also know how fans can overstate potential moves that could have changed the outcome of a game as well as glamorizing the ability of a bench player.
Thibs has us at number 3 seed with only two teams, former champs and one of two hottest teams in NBA, ahead of us. We can complain about what we feel Thibs lacks in but that, for me, is the biggest standard for how Thibs is doing.
Everything else is on players playing and doing what they need to do to win.

Starters, except for OG who played 37 min. Averaged 33 minutes last night.
Knicks were within 9 with 5 to go. You think Thibs should have emptied the bench?
Payne, who is the backup played 17min shot 50% from 3, had 4 dimes and scored
11 points. He was part of the squad that got them to within striking distance.
We have a couple of our past players “who Thibs is screwing” who have decent roles with us today. (Ie, Deuce, Precious) Yet Thibs gets no credit how Thibs brought them along.
Could it be that for as good as we thing Kolek can be, he is just not that good and/or not better than Payne? So why would he get minutes over Payne? Cuz we need proof?
Clev has lost 3 in a row. Shit happens all the time.
Last night some 25 year old journeyman I never heard of who looks like a Romanian human trafficker or a Cellmate in a russian prison went off on a historical run!
As for Kolek the notion is "We lost the game, might as well put him in and at least we lose and kid gets expeirence".
If we compare to Deuce, thibs was convinced the kid was ready. Not some accident or stroke of luck. Deuce had demonstrated proficiency to whom it matters. Thibs and the Thibian coaches. Kolek is not ready yet. When he is, he'll be in the rotation. Like Deuce was. Then gain more minutes based on play. Thibs gave Dadiet and Kolek an opportunity early in the season and it was not to be. Maybe they make it, maybe they don't.
This is a professional basketball team that is doing very well. Not like we are tanking and letting the yoot gain experience in a lost cause.
That job was his to take. CamPayne has not faulted or relinquished his spot.
Knicks are clearly a tier 2 team. Talking about our record versus tier 1 is stupid at this point. We aren't on that level. Amongst the tier 2's we are as good as anyone else. You can make the case for us, LAL, HOU, DEN, MEM. Our record vs that crop of teams is 5-3.

Does Kolek get off the bench if McBride does not play?
Josh giving me bad vibes lately. I know he will make some great energy plays BUT I think he's a glaring issue on this teams make-up.
Something is definitely missing on this squad - so much for the PJ Tucker effect on playing hard/tough/smart.

Hart is top 5 in minutes, he routinely out rebounds players who are much taller than he is. Getting close to breaking a record set by Clyde. If anyone has a right to say they’re gassed, it’s Josh Hart.
