Save that for the Raptors game..
Up until now I was right there with you. This squad has a shelf life.
Durant might say otherwise, but he needs another ring to cement his legacy. He doesnt have time to waste at his age, and neither do we. We dont know how long Brunson will hold up. A league leader in taking charges every year. Same for OG and his availability.

This is wild. I came here to post this exact reply.

I don't remember saying that... but if I did, I definitely agree with me.
Durant is 36 and a cancer. So no.

The only place Durant was a real Diva was in Brooklyn. And that’s because he was practically given the keys to Barklay’s Center. Durant still produces like a superstar. We’re talking about a two year window with Durant. He has Finals experience, can make the big shot. If there is a deal that makes us a contender, I hope the FO explores it. If Durant really was interested in the Knicks, shows how far we’ve come.

He's still good. Unfortunately, there's nothing of value that the Knicks have to give that wouldn't just end up sending the team in the same place Phoenix is now.
Too old and cancerous. Teams with him dont win lately.
No, it just shortens the window too much. Plus we have learned in Phoenix he’s no longer a sure thing to contention.
Durant makes 54mm next season so I have no idea how that even can work.
Only way I see this would be to trade KAT straight up thinking we don't want Kats contract.
Is it an even trade? No, its a Kat Salary Dump.
You then roll with Mitch in the middle
Durant
OG
Mikal
Brunson.......
No, IM not in love with this idea nor can I paint what the years after look like. It creates cap space if Durant wants to return after next year at a big "chass a ring" discount.
I don't despise him like some of you do. To me his arrogance is similar to Jimmy Butlers who really is a dick actually, but a winner. Durant being a former MVP and top 5 player might be a bit on the spectrum which comes off putting at times. Top players for years get slammed for many things and he has been a bit thinned skinned about it. His career unfolded as social media unfolded and he really did not handle some aspects of it well.
Went to knicks because "nets were cool". Well, he came within a toe of making finals and they had a shot if they did. He was not wrong actually. Knicks were not cool at the time he spoke and Nets gave him a year off paid which Knicks could not really do given the situation. That version of Kyrie was not a good fit so we might have dodged a bullet there with those two. Given Covid shut down Nets perhaps got the worst version of Kyrie.
Don't kid yourself, Dolan would have gone all in for Kyrie and Durant at that time.
But it did not happen. Durant did not make Nets cool, Kyrie flaked out big time and we got the best version of Randle instead!
Based on EVERYTHING I've seen from Kat this year I might consider some type of swap for KD.
Kat is not someone that looks like he's going to age well - could his D get worse (maybe)?
We have an issue with JB/KAT combo because both are un-athletic and both are POOR defenders.
Yes KD is a diva and a 36 (going on 37) diva BUT he's an ALL TIME diva --- maybe the most effortless scorer in history.
The upside of a KD trade where we extend him 2 years --- we get out of long-term commit to Kat.
The more I watch Kat the bloom of his early season has started to wilt. The shot selection if awful, the drives to nowhere are awful, the rim protection awful and the D all-world awful. I didn't mention bad fouls, decision making and his sloth like trots up and down the court.
Brunson
Mikal
KD
OG
Mitch (maybe another starting center via the tax payer MLE or trade)
That's a legit 5 with switchability, shooting and no empty vessel defending the rim. Plus we get Hart the hell out of the starting line-up where he is killing us.
I don't know - I like Kat but his game is worrisome and KD is an all timer in my book.

You know how else we can get out of KAT's long term contract? Trade him for DDV and Randle. BOOM.
Maybe we can trade for Rolando Blackman while we're at it. And Stevie Francis. And Penny Hardaway. And Mike Bibby. Sure those bring in the old guy trades always work.

Don’t even need to be KD.
I’m wondering what Thibs and Leon both think of KATs defense and if it’s long term winnable.
Offense just has to be devestating enough, and that’s definitely a possibility with Brunson and KAT.

Durant was a p ssy with the nets because he’s not psychologically built for NY. He imploded under scrutiny he’s played in small to medium size western conference markets were there’s very little media scrutiny his entire career except for a couple years with the nets
And the nets get maybe 20% the media scrutiny the Knicks do

I still remember the Blackman trade. Literally no one was against it seemed like such a no brainer a 1995 pick for a very good shooting guard
