Dangerous game to play but if we can actually win a 1st round series avoiding a potential Boston matchup in round 2 wouldn't be bad.
The way these things play out though --- you lose to avoid Celtics and then they lose in 1st round and you (Knicks) get knocked out in round 1 or 2 by someone else.

Wondering if we are shooting for that 4th seed to avoid Boston.
If we are - Thibs will probably blow it against Nets on Sunday.
I have never seen him do this, so if it happens I will be impressed. Thibs will have shown progress.
I did find a silver lining in this game. His name is TJ Tucker. Yes!!!! This guys BOXES OUT!!yes. He gives hard fouls! Finally! Don't get me wrong, we have some dogs on the squad. But Tucker is my type of player. Played a perfect game. Even made a three. I am in love 💕
martin wrote:The reason TJ Warren is not on the Knicks bench
TJ is the kind of guy that you miss your jump shot just because he's 5 feet away and you think he might come over and slap you.
We need this on the court and he was solid boxing out, rotations were great - even knocked down 1 shot. We need to give him some playoff minutes ( even 5 to 8 a half just for the physical presence).
Mikal was SOOOOOOO SOFT last night.
Im not sure we tried to lose for seeding purposes. I think we purposely played in a way we wouldn't play in the playoffs knowing we're likely facing Detroit in a week. Guys PJ Tucker played like 25 minutes and Precious played like 40. They won't be playing at all in the playoffs most likely. OG didn't play, 48 min Josh didn't play....this is not what the games are gonna look like in a week and that was by design.
If you're having anxiety or an emotional reaction to losing this game, or drawing any conclusions about the team, you need to take a step back and ask yourself if this was a serious attempt to win? I realize Brunson and KAT played...do you think Brunson was playing his normal style of ball last night? Or was he using this as an opportunity to shake off some game rust?

I believe Cam Payne has the highest plus minus on Knicks the entire season - may be wrong and last night he had the highest +6.
Sure some of his shots are whack BUT he pushes the pace, he attacks quickly and he moves the ball. He also hasn't hurt us on D.
Brunson comes in the game and the offense flows like a giant cement mixer --- hate watching iso Brunson offense.

Mikal was a soft cookie. He has his moments, rarely, when he gets into guys faces and you just know that it's ON tonite. Sometimes he gets blocks and it usually shifts momentum. Today he was kinda passive...

Kat is a Mother****ing numb nuts --- never seen a guy make the same mistakes over and over and over again.

Agree - it's not Thibs MO to tank but if mgmt forces him to sit enough guys we may just get there.
Does give me a weird feeling if we do go that route ---- feel like even mini-tanking to avoid teams doesn't work out well.

Not sure if we are agreeing or not.
Knicks chose to sit OG.Hart and restricted KAT/Brunson to <30 minutes so they weren't going hog wild for the win.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't be upset watching Kat play dumb, Mikal play soft and Brunson basically only hunting shots for himself.
Thought extra guys like Precious, PJ, Landry played well. Unfortunately once again Deuce proved his defensive reputation is unwarranted.

I'm there with you but I doubt it happens this year.

It felt like Deuce either blew a layup or got swatted at rim about 10 times last night.
For all the love - Deuce is SUPER UNDERWHELMING. Cade simply abused him and again he is up down shooting the ball.
It was weird to see Deuce almost exclusively on Cade right? Cade is very very good and seemed to get away with that forearm shove a ton.
Another game we should have won but can't get too down about this one cause it means almost nothing but give the Pistons credit. Cunningham is a tough cover and they play a tough rugged style that will surely test our toughness if we end up playing them which is looking like it is.
Am I the only one that felt like Thibs kind of tanked this game? No OG, Hart or Mitch. And Deuce on Cunningham was a glaring mismatch. Deuce got bullied and abused! I was screaming for Thibs to switch and have Bridges on him. Maybe it wouldn't have a difference but leaving Deuce on a island by himself made no sense to me. We will need OG on Cunningham all game long. And having Mitch in the paint to help on their post up's will help too.
Liked how Precious played. He's been pretty brutal the last few weeks so good to see him play well! And that dunk on Stewart was nasty! Shamet was playing well in the 4th hitting two threes and got pulled. I get that's Thibs and he will finish games with his starters 9/10 times but I would've left Shamet in there. Tucker tried to bring some toughness and got some nice hard fouls and hit a three but he can't play anymore. Should've went with another younger vet with that spot.
KAT has the worst whistle in the league after Brunson. Amazing how much he gets bumped and hit when he drives and the zebras never call anything. And it effects his defense. He's one of the worst defenders in the entire league to begin with but when he doesn't get calls, I notice he just doesn't try on defense. And he's having too many games lately with the stupid fouls.
Anyway, this game meant nothing. There will be no carry over for Game 1 from either team. I will say this potential match up with the Pistons will be a good test. The biggest weakness I see in this years team is the lack of toughness. We may be more talented but we are lacking that grit and toughness we lost with DVo, Hartenstein and Randle. We'll see if KAT and Bridges step up. Cause I'm fully confident Brunson, OG, Hart, Mitch and Deuce will bring it and not back down. I have to admit I'm not sure about KAT and Bridges.

I'm beginning to not like KAT and Brunson offense. Those guys should be much much better at executing and getting going, and not in just an ISO standpoint.
Actually encouraged by the loss. Almost beat the pistons at Detroit without , Hart, OG and Mitch

Thibs didn’t want Mikal to foul out by middle of 4th qtr. Cade is getting superstar calls now.

It's insane what he got away with and Brunson and KAT get hacked forever
KAT got a lot of learning to do.

Interestingly enough Knicks shot 12 more 3pts than Detroit last night 34 vs 22.

I really do feel like they were keeping Bridges away from Cade just to minimize opportunities for Cade to get used to Mikal. Mikal's length definitely could be a key particularly because Cade likes to post up so much.
The Cade EXTENDED forearm shove is ridiculous -- he's blatantly extending and shoving off with it more than I can recall.
