Ok Thibs. You said it. And it's clear Mitch is back. In fact, Mitch might have been the most or second most impactful player on the floor last night.
So, stop fucking around and start Mitch.
Our backs are against the wall and the firing squad is lined up. Let's not go out too timid to make a positive change.

You can start him, but you can’t play him big minutes. He’s still Mitch.

Not digging a 10pt hole to start every 1Q and 3Q is the goal here

Start Deuce or Mitch

Or

Continue to be Thibs and do nothing to the starting 5

But

Fix the closing 5

Open the rotation to include shamett/wright or Precious.

Let’s say he makes the changes and we still lose, now what?

Thibs starting unit or reluctant to change it is one of many problems.

DLeethal @ 5/24/2025 10:55 PM
Assuming Precious gets some mins too and no need for Cam Payne with both Hart and Deuce coming off the bench IMO.

I assume Mitch on Siakam and OG on Hali.

There’s a chance we get cooked anyway. This maneuver has all the magnifying glasses in the world on it now when it didn’t have to be like this. Other coaches tinker with lineups all the time. For some reason it needs to become the story with season on the brink of collapse for Thibs to do it.

This same thing happened against Atlanta when he finally started Rose for Payton and we lost anyway.

Exactly. It's not enough to just do something. That something needs to be done in time for it to matter.

I am sure that Thibs will implement an offensive system too, someday. However we needed it this season already, not 5 years later when Brunson and KAT are past their prime

I welcome change but I don’t love double big versus Indiana. But hopefully it can do a better job not digging 10 point holes to start every half.

I like deuce starting and hart off the bench. But I believe Mitch is probably an easier sell especially with hart on record saying he wouldn’t mind coming off the bench to allow Mitch to start. Maybe hart and deuce will improve the bench speed and hart brings some stability and small ball ability since hart can guard multiple nba starters. Maybe hart now dominates the backup bigs and increases our fast break scoring. Will be interesting to see his impact tonight.

Mitch starting will put more pressure on towns perimeter defense. This is my issue with towns. To soft to guard the paint and too slow on the perimeter. Towns is a player I would use in zone defense. His active arms and rebounding would be a plus in zone. Unfortunately that’s not in Thibs defensive bag.

Glad he read my thread. Thanks for being open minded about it, Thibs

JesseDark @ 5/25/2025 8:32 AM
I’d start Precious to defend Pascal and he doesn’t need to be protected on switches. I think Mitch is too important to risk being in foul trouble at end of game.

Got to be careful not to play Mitch too many minutes. I do not trust his durability. He already tweaked an ankle. Even if we start him, I'd keep his minutes to 25 max.

And on defense, Mikal on Haliburton, JB on Nembhard, OG on Nesmith, KAT on Turner and Mitch on Siakim makes the most sense.

Looks like the double big lineup was ok but not the answer. Starting deuce was a better option since they move the ball and have at least 4 shooters on the floor (sometimes five). And they play fast and run. If we go double bog our offense needs to be efficient. That’s not Thibs specifically. With deuce you still increased your defense and you added a 3pt shooter to help space the floor for towns and JB.
DLeethal @ 5/28/2025 9:40 AM
Going double big never made sense and was a half measure. Seems like Thibs took the path of least resistance as opposed to the bold move that actually made the most sense.
DLeethal @ 5/28/2025 9:42 AM
Double big was NOT one of our best NET lineups. Double big against this Indiana team was not even on paper what made the most sense. We made a move for sake of making a move, and didn't go with our highest +/- guy or best POA defender in Deuce.
