Get the feeling we will see a Knicks trade soon we didnt expect. Teams are making moves, and I dont see the Knicks staying on the sidelines

I gotta find that clip.

For me, this means the possibility they move Mitch. Or at least the Knicks will have the option to decide on upgrading that 5th starting position, maybe even with Deuce in tandem.

KAT, Horford, Huk, whoever is too many minutes for the 5 and backup 5.

What is more important to the Knicks: upgrade Hart (by moving him to bench) in starting lineup to strengthen the 5-out or the backup 5.

Lakers have wanted Mitch since we drafted him and they have an abundance of role players

None of whom make sense to trade for?

Wizards also have lots of role players. Might be a team to watch

I think you can make an argument for
Austin Reaves
Rui Hachimura
Jarred Vanderbilt
Dalton Knecht

For example if you really like Hukporti+Nnaji and you're bringing in Horford - would Mitch for Knecht+Vanderbilt make sense? Gives you a lengthy defender who can guard 3,4,5 and a potential deadeye shooter off the bench.

Mitch for Reaves straight up (I don't think the Lakers do that) also gives us a player who's a legit 2nd ballhandler/good shooter/ 3rd scorer.

VDesai @ 6/25/2025 1:04 PM
Also referenced by Keith Smith + Ian is that the Knicks may pick up the PJ Tucker option for 3.5mm - non guaranteed. Gives them the option of using a higher than min return salary for trade matching and they can waive him non-guaranteed if they don't deal him. However by picking him up it could limit the usage of the Taxpayer MLE given it won't create apron space.

Why not Rui - can fit in as back up PF and small ball center. Or become a starter when we move OG for Greek straight up

I wouldn't do the Knecht/Vandy one -- think league figured out Knecht already and Vandy not trust worthy. Also don't think Lakers would do Reeves.

I do like Rui -- he's a better basketball player than Mitch. Maybe not quite as impactful but a functioning 2-way player.

Reaves turning down the max is surprising to me. I worry about trading for players that peak with LeBron because I think there is a LeBron “bump” to player stats. Love or hate him he is a great player that has real capacity to make the players around him better. When they leave, they aren’t the same quality or efficiency. Think Kuzma. LeBron got him paid but on his own he is a lowly chucker. Horton-Tucker. I can find more examples.

his max was an 89mil over 4 years with Lakers. Thats all they could give him. Thats 22.5mm per year.
Lebron Bump? Be careful, you saying he makes others around him "better"? LOL
Thibs got players paid also.

You may be right but not all players would be classified as such. Reaves has one year left until he can turn down his player option and be UFA at age 28. There is also more cap space and teams will have more to spend next year. He is making 13mm now. A bargain.
If IQ is making 35mm, what's this kid worth? He won't be looking at a number that big perhaps, but closer to 30 give or take is not under the realm of reality. His agent is either dialed in properly or full of shit? Those other guys were kind of one year dudes who had career years with him. Reaves been at this a while now.

Kuzma current deal avg is 22mil per. He is not great, but not a bust either.

Lebron brings up the ball posts up gets double triple teamed and then passes to wide open guys on the perimeter he’s been doing that for 22 years. Lebron has made more average players in the nba money than crypto

newyorknewyork @ 6/28/2025 10:36 AM
He was mentioned before in an article but after looking into it. Larry Nance Jr checks out as a great fit and should be a priority.

Granted his 3pt shooting needs another year of decent volume to be solidified. His profile seems perfect next to KAT. His analytics and win shares are solid. His defensive metrics are solid. Seems to profile very well as a 3&D athletic compliment next to Kat.

Most importantly allows us to push OG & Mikel more towards being Wings than Forwards. Thus allowing Knicks to impose a ton of size and length to create an advantage and identity. Nance is the shooting maintains also profiles perfect next to Mitch and would create a pretty strong potential defensive frontcourt combination especially with OG in that mix at SF.

Dennis Schroder would also also be a great addition.

Kat/Mitch/Huk
Nance/Kat/OG
OG/Mikal/Hart
Mikal/Hart/Deuce
Brunson/Schroder/Deuce.

LivingLegend @ 6/28/2025 4:32 PM
Kind of a bad sign that Sam Merrill got $9M per or 4 for $36M for Cavs.

Many were talking about him hopefully being available for 2 year Tax MLE in $5.5M range.

TLover @ 6/28/2025 9:50 PM
Ty Jerome would be a nice get (also local kid) but only way we can pay him is in sign & trade.
EwingsGlass @ 6/29/2025 7:58 AM
Without thinking about any trade upgrades, I think if the Knicks could add Gary Trent Jr and Chris Boucher on Vet Minimum deals, they’d have the depth they were missing last year.

Brunson / Deuce / Kolek
Bridges / Trent / McCullar
OG / Hart / Dadiet
KAT / Boucher / Diawara
Robinson / Huk / Nnaji

Clearly a guys like McCullar, Nnaji, Diawara or Pate would have to win a roster spot. But I think expanding the rotation under a new head coach will get more players some run.

But I think you have two more dogged players in Trent and Boucher

I think guys like Robinson and Hart are flawed in the “modern offense” sense, but have so many other tangibles and intangibles that I would not undervalue them in the rotation or the trade market. No need to make a trade for the sake of making a trade. But guys like McCullar, Dadiet and Huk gotta know they can take those minutes by bringing more to the table.

Exactly. You get it. Hence my skepticism picking up anyone from LeBron’s “and friends” crew.
