PHO is one team, TOR might be another. But outside of a Mitch and Mikal/OG for Durant trade, I'm not sure what else is there, and I don't think I do that deal anyway.

Lakers are the clear and obvious team.

Luka wants a rim running above the rim big man and Lakers want it for him.

Read some tweets suggesting Minny can’t resign all of their FAs and also want to pair Edwards with another alpha like Durant. They will need to make some moves and rearrange some salary. Wonder if Dante is gettable.

yea just not sure we need anything from them so it would have to be a 3 team trade. Also not sure they'd bet on him being healthy full time.

Hachimura and Max Christie is an interesting deal IMO. S&T Finney Smith? Austin Reaves was rumored as a Knicks target within the last few weeks also.

Feel like Mikal is in the same spot as DDV finding his role.

Think for a salary match and knowing what they were willing to trade, it would be more like Vanderbilt and Knecht

NAW seems like a great fit as the 5th starter that slides Josh to bench

Max was already traded to DAL for Luka, and Reaves has more value than Mitch.

Sometimes we look at these other glue guys, solid role players and we don't realize that they are lesser Josh Harts. I like NAW, but his shot is no better than Josh's. I do think he is a very solid defender, but he also has size limitations...

Plus, you’d need to do a sign and trade and I’m not sure Minny can cause they over the second apron? I’m not sure how any of that works while both Randle and Naz also probably extend their contracts?

You are right I had Max flip flopped on the wrong side of that trade. Hachi and Knecht is what they tried to trade for Mark Williams.

NAW would be amazing for us. He’s not better than Hart, but he fits that 3&D role better and allows hart to lead the bench unit. The issue with NAW is we can’t sign and trade for him as I’m pretty sure we are restricted being over the first apron. So he would have to take the 5.7M TPMLE. He’s a CAA client and might want to start on a contender, so you never know. The other one I like for that role is Caris LeVert.

Walker shot 38% on 4.5 attempts this year and 39% last year, in 25mpg. That’s 6.4 attempts per 36. Josh shoots 33% on 3.3 attempts per game (he plays more than 36mpg). 31% last year.

NAW is a much better shooter and the goal isn’t to get someone *better* than Hart it’s just to get a 5th starter and move Hart to super sub where most of us believe he belongs. Need someone who can shoot 3s well and with volume so teams can’t hide smalls on KAT. Just look what KAT is doing to Turner - we want bigs guarding him every night not hiding on Hart.

NAW shoots higher % from 3 than Deuce, OG, Mikal this year and matches Brunson on per minute attempts and efficiency. Just saying.

martin @ 5/30/2025 7:52 PM
Unfortunately a team acquiring a player via sign-and-trade cannot be over the first tax apron upon the conclusion of the deal and becomes hard-capped at the first apron for the rest of the league year.

Knicks are out of that territory

I'd rather let Bridges contract expire or trade him, and keep MItch/Diadet/Kolek.

In my defense I forgot that he had another year.

There is no defense for letting a contract expire. Zero GM's in the NBA left Mikak's contract expire, that's what gets you fired.

Not supposed to eat the soap Martin

Im ready to move on from Bridges wether it makes sense or not. Felt the same way about Allan Houston. A good player who should be coming off the bench but probably wont.

Letting a player of Mikal's caliber walk after you know what they gave up for him and his close relationship with Brunson is a thousand layers of dumb.

Dislike a player all you want but let's not be foolish just sot show your own dislike for someone.

I dont dislike Bridges, I dislike his place in the rotation. For what he's going to be paid to re-up, too much spectating as a starter.

I think he would have a real shot at 6th man of the year. Have said it for months. You dont say that about a player you dislike.

You lost me at “Houston should have been coming off the bench” lol.
A point about Bridges. Have said all year that he is just a role player. Even mentioned Deuce should start over him in last game and have Bridges come off the bench.
What IF the issues we see are scheme oriented? What IF he changes his mindset. Thought Divo was better with the starting unit because he would still look for his own shot and not automatically defer to Randle and Brunson. At the end of the day, we have 5 valuable picks for him. So what would be the best return on investment? Involve him further in offensive schemes? Work with him to be more effective and aggressive? Or cut ties and take a loss?

Again, not a fan of his but thinking best way to get the most out of the trade.

We had Sprewell who was one of the best two way SGs in the league. Instead of bringing Houston off the bench, JVG moved Spree to SF, where he had to defend bigger players.

I think part of the problem is the way Brunson plays which is a lot like Melo. Use up most of the clock, and find a teammate if there is no good look with the shot clock running out. I think Bridges needs the ball more to succeed, and thats hard to do next to a high usage player like JB.

Bridges seems too often content to let the game come to him, instead of crashing the boards in traffic, put back dunks. Not David Lee-bounds. Just not aggressive enough as a starter. He could come back next season with a more aggressive mindset. Lets hope.

Think that its all we can do.
Don’t see them recouping what they gave up in a trade.
So agree, only chance of this really working out better than present is for Bridges to improve. Specially his mindset and aggressiveness.
Which first and foremost is, think we agree, is to work on going hard to basket and finishing.

Yeah we can sign and trade our own players, but getting one back isn’t an option. The 5.7M MLE is going to come in handy this summer. Not much free agent money out there and a lot of teams sensitive about the aprons so the middle class gets pinched. Great opportunity to get a really good rotation player for that money, especially as a top destination.

Knixkik wrote:Knicks need to do their best to add a 5th starter this summer using whatever resources available and keeping the bench of Hart, McBride, and Mitch. I understand the size concerns with mcbride next to Brunson, but we have also seen Mitch and hart not work as starters (with the other 4) and be more impactful off the bench. Knicks needs to find a 5th starter, either via trade or taxpayer MLE to fill that gap, make the starting 5 more complete, and then let mcbride, hart and Mitch come off the bench and blend in with the starters as all of them are great in the change of pace role. We may have to trade a combination of remaining picks (the Washington pick is still valuable since it will likely turn into 2 high second round picks), young players, and pick swaps. I don’t know who that player is, considering his salary can’t be high, but there’s a player out there ready to break out. I was advocating for Toumani Camara early in the year a month before the trade deadline. Too late for him with his breakout, but that is the idea. Front office needs to find that guy.

Or Deni Avdija, loved that guy too.

Don’t think Portland would even trade us Deni for likes of Mikal or OG — the price would be exorbitant as Deni really rising on that young roster.

Love him though - always wanted him.
