Knicks · OMG! Thibs fired! (page 1)

It was fake until it wasn’t…

Ok it’s actually true! Wow!

I didn’t think they would do it, but I agree with the decision. It’s true that a new voice is needed.

Respect to Thibs, though!

I think this means that Rose has someone in mind who could’ve been hired by Phoenix before they had a chance.
Panos @ 6/3/2025 2:49 PM
This is shocking. I get it, but I'm still shocked.
Panos @ 6/3/2025 2:50 PM
Its nice to be an NBA coach and always get fired with 2-3 years bank still owed you.
martin @ 6/3/2025 2:50 PM
Leon is ice cold. Didn't think he had THIS in him.

Bryant coming home?!

Panos @ 6/3/2025 2:52 PM
Dear Thibs,
Thank you for making this franchise respectable again. Watchable. Rootable. We love you, and wish you the best going forward.

Now... Next Man Up!

SergioNYK @ 6/3/2025 2:52 PM
Very surprised but not really. What happened in game one was unforgivable. And the inability the develop a system where JB and KAT to work off each other was also a failure. I will always be thankful and grateful for Thibs and how he helped revive the franchise and bring us back to the playoffs but it was time for a change.

That being said, replacing him will not be easy and this might come back to bite us in the ass. Leon needs to get this hire right.

ramtour420 @ 6/3/2025 2:52 PM
I like it. Don't get me wrong, Thibs is great. Perfect for a rebuilding team, he has his players playing hard. He gave us everything he had and I am really thankful for that. However, to get to the next level we need a different voice, and a different system.
Swishfm3 @ 6/3/2025 2:53 PM
I’m shocked because I didn’t think they would do it.

At the end of the day, THIS was the right move. Not trading for Giannis or Durant but letting go of Thibs and getting someone that can push this team over the final hump

nycericanguy @ 6/3/2025 2:56 PM
wow... didnt see this coming. not sure what to think. Why extend him just to fire him after? Thought he deserved 1 more year at least.

Clearly they read the room though, who knows what was happening behind closed doors.

Not gonna lie, I think it might be him. He was so respected by the team before moving on this year. And he might be more into the “New NBA” than Thibs, which might be another point that moved them to this decision.

I don’t see a move like this to actually bring another old school coach like Malone, although I might be wrong. I think this is about winning a championship as much as about adapting to the new NBA. Doing it so quickly might point at the Phoenix candidates.

$30M to Netflix and bake for 3 years.

Wow - actually feel bad for Thibs as he was given a difficult task this season with the roster changes...that said the best thing to come from this is it quells the perception that Leon/Thibs and Nova were all so enmeshed that nothing could change.

Curious if they will go for Malone or young with J.Bryant or something completely out of left field.

This also could be a sign that KAT is staying and a new defensive scheme will be implemented to minimize KAT and Brunson's defensive challenges

Chandler @ 6/3/2025 2:58 PM
I suspect they're eyeing Budenholzer or Malone -- someone who has better ideas about how to exploit all world-shooting big man.

Have to imagine Leon was thinking the KAT acquisition was great and didn't like the ideas of staggering or trading

might have also been frustrated with seeing team experiment with lineups for the first time during playoffs instead of during season against weaker teams

Truly sucks for Thibs. Did great things, the right way and was a class act
